For those of you that have a 3" barrel Kimber (ultra), can you explain the whole recoil spring assembly replacement?
Changing out the outer recoil spring is a no-brainer. But I read that you cannot get to the inner spring, sorta like the Kahr inner spring, and that some folks send in their assembly for Kimber to replace the inner spring--that it's too much of a pain to do it yourself.
The below link is the Kimber assembly--kinda expensive. If I get a 3" barrel 1911, I'll change out the outer spring around 600-700 rds, but I sure don't want to have to pay $50 for a new assembly each time for a new inner or have to send in the thing to have the inner replaced.
Are the Kimber assemblies like the Kahrs where you cannot get to the inner spring without tools...etc. How often does the Kimber inner spring need to be replaced?
