For those of you that have a 3" barrel Kimber (ultra), can you explain the whole recoil spring assembly replacement?

Changing out the outer recoil spring is a no-brainer. But I read that you cannot get to the inner spring, sorta like the Kahr inner spring, and that some folks send in their assembly for Kimber to replace the inner spring--that it's too much of a pain to do it yourself.

The below link is the Kimber assembly--kinda expensive. If I get a 3" barrel 1911, I'll change out the outer spring around 600-700 rds, but I sure don't want to have to pay $50 for a new assembly each time for a new inner or have to send in the thing to have the inner replaced.

Are the Kimber assemblies like the Kahrs where you cannot get to the inner spring without tools...etc. How often does the Kimber inner spring need to be replaced?

you can take the kahr inner spring assembly apart. It is ano brainer. That little end cap just unscrews. It is locktited on and u damn well better locktiite it back on if you replace that inner spring. But Personally IMO there is no need to mess with that inner spring, I u can get just the outter springs for the kahrs, just repolace it around 1500-2000 rounds and ur never gonna have any issues. I have replced my inner spirng on my PM9 one time, after than just the outter one. Sure if you ask kahr they will say replace the entire thing, which is now $24 per change. Gee I wonder why they tell us that swh-t?????

TRhere is no direct round count for kahrs either, my opinion is mine onlyt sol take it at that, but one gets to know his gun well if he shoots alot and if you "feel" like things have changed alittle in your shooting sessions, then indeed replace those springs 90% of the time that is the issue.

WOW I seen the replacment price of a complete kimber recoil assembly $45 plus postage. Did u read the fine print, they also send you a tube of KY jelley to just remind you that they just fokked you..
