I bought some of the grease for my gun but want to know if you use it in the same areas as the oil? Also I noticed the bullet with the slide open and ready to chamber has a little cant to the right. Is this normal for the Kahrs?? Never had a feeding problem and gobbles up everything I put in it.Also cleaning the striker channel out last night I got some brass shavings blasted out. Just something else normal, Just wondering:confused:

I use the grease on the slide rails and a little bit where the barrel hood hits the inside of the slide. I generally put a little bit around the end of the barrel but oil will work there just as well. Usually if I see a wear spot, I put a little grease there to keep things moving slick.
The rails is the main grease place for me.
I'm sure cartridges can easily be deflected a bit in the magazine and as long as it's feeding them I'd not give that any concern.
I'm not sure on that striker debri. I took my PM45 apart completely before I ever shot it just to see what was left in there from the factory and it was squeaky clean. I've never noticed anything come out of it during the blast and kind of wonder how anything substantial would get in there but many report brass or diatrus coming out.
Next week when I get my striker spring from MW I'll take it apart and see what my striker channel looks like now to see what if anything is in there.

The lube isnt near as messy as the oil.I tried it on the barrel and the guide rod also. The stiker gets a 1/2 drop oil and it sound nice and crisp. I am not concearned about the small amunt of shavings after 100 rounds. As long as it gobbles up everything without a hiccup Im not too worried. the only complaint I have is cleaning it in the garage and have to listen to the wife telling me the cleaning solvent stinks up the place. that's MY garage anyway!!!:D

I use a light grease, TW25b, because it is more stable, less evaporative and does not migrate off the critical components as a light oil may do. Rotational points get oil, slide and heavy wear areas get grease.
Try some Eezox for cleaning. It works well and smells OK

I'm in no hurry, only mentioned because I know I'll be inside my slide, I might as well check for debri in the striker channel.
Mexico? They don't allow no protection down there. Seems you said this was work related. Do you get hazardous duty pay for going there.
Do be careful, I don't forsee me coming to your rescue down there. Too scarey for me.

No joy. The mail person did not deliver today :( So unless they deliver tomorrow we may be out of luck on the springs until I get back.
I'll be going pretty much way south of the border and will be offshore every day flying in and out by helicopter every day. It is pretty quiet where I'll be. Small town and that.
Hmm, flying everyday, maybe I should get hazardous pay. But I will be staying at a Holiday Inn Express so maybe I'll get to be as smart as jocko!

Remember if the wings are going faster than the fuselage your in a heliochopper and hazardous pay is most definitely in order.
Maybe while your offshore you can look around for some of that rumored offshore money floating around and send me some of that too. They say money don't buy happiness but I'd like to prove it to myself. I'll gladly report back and share my findings.

Yea, it's always a joy flying in a helicopter. I've flown so much in them, I fall asleep as soon as we take off. Gotta rest up for a full day of work in less than 6 hours.
I haven't seen any of that offshore money down Mexico way, but I have been to the Cayman Islands and seen where some of it is stored.

Well lets forget Mexico then. Who owns these Cayman Islands? Where they at? Show me the money.

Cayman Islands are are part of the British Commonwealth. Located in the Caribbean Sea to the south of Cuba and northwest of Jamaica. Nice place to visit but pretty expensive since they are islands and just about all food stuffs have to be imported.

I don't need to stay long (do they have Holiday Inn's?) I just wanna grab the loot and scoot you know? Latch onto a couple off shore accounts. Bring em back to the main land, specifically my house. I'll even buy a new mattress to sew it all up in.

LOL - When I was first there, stayed in a Holiday Inn on the beach. This was about 20 years ago. Room looked like any Holiday Inn in small town America and cost about $250 per day. View was nice though. Moved out to another hotel owned by Dolly Parton that was cheaper and better. (Didn't see Dolly though)
Yea, a mattress will be required to get the money back! If you make about, what 100 trips, you could bring back $9,999.99 per trip and would not have to declare it through customs.
Sorry for the short hijack. Your post will be returned to you unharmed (maybe ;) )

I wish, I wish. My real money is in fishing lure production, me and the missus are sort of at home sweat shop assemblers. If I go really fast, don't watch tv or get distracted by gun stuff like 1911 or Kahr grips or the smell of Hoppe's I can make almost 4 bucks an hour cold hard cash. Don't need a mattress for all that, a very small pillow case is more than adequate.

used to have at one time over 350 rare antique duck decoys and shorebirds of the early 1900 eara and some of my decoy shows I used to attend had some vintage fishng lure collectors there to. Never dreamed those little buggers would be fetching 4 figures, but they did back then and I am sure their value has went up. I also owned two of Charles Perdews antique hand carved duck calls that were made around `1920. Today they are valued at over $5K..
I had some of the rarest Mason decoys around, actually for 17 years published the DECOY HUNTER MAGAZINE. We reached over 2000 decoy collectors, Attended many of the national decoy auctions and was present when an elmer crowell goose sold at auction for over 1 million and this was 12 years ago at least..

Dang, that must take a heck of a display shelf to put 350 duck decoys on. That's alot of decoys.
Us folks on the other side of the track us white plastic bags, staked to the ground for goose decoys. (Don't get mad, get Glad).
Buddy bought a bunch of real looking plastic looking duck decoys, guess he didn't realize he needed to put a weight on em to keep em from floating off. They are probably in Japan by now, think he had 24 saved 3 before the drifted to parts unknown.
20/20 hindsight.
Million bucks for a decoy, wow, double wow!

Diatrus- Latin word spelled in a scandanavian ghetto slang meaning crap. Also see contents located below outhouse.
I'll use it in a sentence. I didn't buy any of it, I knew he was full of diatrus.
Maybe it ain't even a real word and the little people just told me to use it?
One of the things to remember when choosing grease or oil or pseudo-grease like TW25b, is the temperature you'll be keeping the pistol in. That is, if you carry it close to your body all the time, in warm weather, your "grease" is going to behave more like TW25b, and the TW25b is going to behave more like oil.

Humm, I carry my PM9 24/7 pants all year long. To me it behaves like grease. not like Oil. If I rub it on the barrel, It stays there. It doesn't dissappear..

Has anyone ever tried using STP oil treatment on the spots you'd put grease on?
I don't have any grease on hand, but I do have a bottle of STP. Was going to use a q-tip and spread it pretty thin on the rails and barrel tip.
MW, be careful down there!

damn, haven't heard of STP in years,,, didn't even know it was still around even..
Andy Granatelli would approve!
There was a time when the "in thing" to lube slides on 1911's was Mobil 1 20-50.
My own "secret" concoction of green synthetic marine grease stays put, but does thin out (as I previously alluded to). TW25b comes out of the tube thicker... for me it tends to thin out rather rapidly, but less rapidly than things like CLP.
All of this is like stacking rat turds - for years we just used "gun oil" or a dab from the little silver tube of "Outers Gun-Slick", and that was that. Nobody ever seemed to have problems with things. Maybe all of this is overkill.

Me thinks we have another bingo. If it's slippery it'll fly. If it runs out and don't stay put, do it more often. If it's too thick and gums up the works get something thinner.

Hey Jocko, I think I got the STP at Walmart or Atwoods (farm supply store). Use it in my daughters 91 Olds to thicken up the oil so it doesn't burn so much. I use Amsoil in my newer vehicles and my 92 Heritage Softail, which has about 5000 miles on a Harley factory motor rebuild. Oil pump went out and I had my full face helmet on, and the bottom of the helmet blocks my view of the oil pressure guage and idiot light, unless I bend my neck down to look which is hurts and takes my eyes off the road longer than I like, and I don't do it as often as I should. Well, I hadn't checked for awhile, and started hearing a racket in the motor. Looked down and no oil pressure. Shut it down but it was too late. Trashed the inside pretty good but at least I saved the block and jugs for the rebuild. While they had the motor out, had em shave the heads .060, and put the Andrews EV27 cam back in. They put it back in the bike, and re-installed my Vance and Hines Pro Pipe and Mikuni Carb with the K&N filter. Not the fastest bike around, but it's pretty peppy. And that "new" motor sure looks nice on it. Need to dyno it one these days get the numbers on it. A few folks that have rode it think it's running about 15hp or so over a stock motor, maybe more. I ran fossil oil to break it in for 750 miles, 2 oil changes, one at around 150-200 miles, then another after another 500 miles or so to get most of the big shavings out of it, then switched to Amsoil. That Amsoil really helps it run cooler in the summer, and seemed like when I switched the first time, it was a little quicker. Might have gained a horse or two with that slicker oil.
I'd probably use some Amsoil grease on my rails and barrel if I had any on hand. I'll grab a tube when I make my run to pick up oil and stuff for my riding buddies. That will be coming up soon. Most of them have switched to running Amsoil fluids in the motor, tranny, and primary. The "leader of the pack" made the switch many years ago and swears by it, so most of the rest of us followed his lead. I'm not sure how I got to be the Amsoil dealer, but that somehow ended up in my lap.
Guess I'll try the STP for now, I'll let you know how it works.
Got everything lined up for prepping my CW45 when I get it. Probably do a practice run on my CW40. I never have squirted the brake cleaner into that cleanout hole, so thats long overdue. I don't have any brake cleaner, but do have some electronics cleaner that says it's safe for plastics, and found the tube for the nozzle.
Hey CJB, Bawanna, Remember when there were STP stickers on a lot of hot rods? Maybe I should make me a little small one and put it on my Kahr. Probably should get some little "Moon eyes" for the other side. LOL

I like it. I gotta check, I used to have a lot of STP stickers around here.
I used to be heavy into the Salt Flats and always liked drag racing. Raced bikes flat track in my youth. Had lots of racing and oil type stickers.

thetmanski - will do. Always looking around.
I know of one grease I'll never use again when its cold. Synthetic disk brake grease. Man, when it was like 25 or 30 degrees here, that stuff was like putting the brakes to my slide.

Another of the many innovations from the space industry have been the wonder lubes, synthetics created to handle both the intense high and low temperatures. A lube that works at both -200 and +450 degress, should work well in a hot gun in Virginia and/or on a cold mountain top in Afghanistan, (or Colorado ;) ).
More useful than TANG, if you ask me. Probably tastes better too. :D

Ah, TANG. Grew up in Florida (enjoyed fresh squeezed OJ from trees in the back yard) and was around when that stuff came out. The synthetic grease probably does taste better.
