Every time I load up, I find myself putting the magazine in my PM45, and chambering the top round in the magazine. Then I pull the magazine and top it off with the "spare round". When I unload, the round in the chamber is now the spare, and I pull the magazine as well.

The result is - I'm constantly alternating two rounds into the chamber, with the alternate being at the top of the magazine.

Anybody got thoughts on that good or bad? I'm thinking I should be careful of case fubar and bullet setback. What am I missing?

When I re-chamber rounds, I mark the one that has been chambered once already with a dot on the primer made with a permanent marker. This way, I cant confuse it with the other rounds in the mag. After it's been chambered twice, I move it to the bottom of the magazine or just set it aside for the next range trip. They say that three times of being chambered is the max for the least chance of setback.

Nothing else to add - this has been my rotation as well. Gotta buy a sharpie now though...

I rotate mine too, every time I clean my mags.

I shoot my carry mag each time I get to the range first thing which isn't nearly enough, maybe once a month if I'm lucky.
In between, if I unload for any reason I rotate the chamber round as you've mentioned. I look it over pretty closely to look for set back, disfigurement etc.
My spare mags get unloaded and shot with range ammo along with the extra range mags, then reloaded with the same carry ammo so I don't have to buy too much expensive carry ammo.

I just do the top two rounds, and keep a close eye out for set back, and other damage. If I think a round is not up to snuff, then the next time I go to the range, out it goes. I generally shoot my carry stuff once or twice a year, except in my round guns, those it's whenever.
