View Full Version : Looking for a decent pair of Electronic EarMuffs
I'm finally looking to upgrade from the standard Earmuff protectors I bought years ago (I have no idea what NRR rating). I'm hoping to stay in the $100 range. Does anybody have any suggestions, or can justify why I should spend more and can explain what the extra money will get me that $100 won't?
I have been looking at Peltor TacSports, and Midway has them for $99 right now. They seem to have good reviews.
Any advice you folks have would be greatly appreciated!

I bought a pair of Howard Leight electronic sport muffs from Cabelas on sale for about $45. I was a little suprised at how well they work even with glasses on. I don't know how they compare to others but I feel much better hearing instructions and commands on the range with these. The model I picked even has an input for an Ipod that I use whiile cutting the grass.

DBP9, I have a used (in great condition) Pro Ears Dimention 1's in green that I would sell. They are rated at NRR 26. I just purchased the Pro Ears Gold NRR33 so I no longer need them - would sell for $75. Now that the sales pitch is out of the way...
Pro Ears use compression vs. clipping meaning that you can still hear voices clearly as shots go off - vs. the audio cutting out. Most of my ranges are indoor, and some are only 6-7 lanes. The Dimention 1, in an indoor range, with a 45 cal going off in the lane next to me, did not do a good enough job (IMHO). I would have been more comfortable with some foam in-ear plugs plus the Dimention 1 - which is why I went for the NRR33's. If you are going to be in a larger in-door range - or an outdoor range - the Pro Ears NRR26 will work great and you can easily hear range commands (I keep them on when I go to the showroom for more ammo).
If you are like me and spend most of your time in smaller indoor ranges, you should opt for the NRR33 (no matter the brand). I still feel the impact of a 45 going off next to me, but my head is not ringing afterword.
If you are interested in the Dimention 1's PM me.
