Have you ever visited the web site There I Fixed It (http://thereifixedit.failblog.org/) ? There are occasions were I resemble some of the creativity on display there. Who can forget my cardboard pocket holster, my ammo box, etc. Well, here I go again.

I am struggling to learn a different shooting style for up close defensive shooting. It calls for a bladed stance vs squared shoulders to the target. This means the gun angle to target is more along the axis of the shoulders and takes some getting used to. Problem is, other than shooting, I only have a mirror to look at when I draw and point. Enter the laser.

Since I will only be using a laser for practice, I don't need to spend big bucks for a CT. I got the idea to try a laser pointer like used in presentations and just affix it to the gun. I promise I will not duct tape it! Rubber bands should suffice. It should fit in the slide where the barrel goes and align good enough for me and has an advertised range of 1500' so I expect to see it on a wall at 20' in daylight.

I found a good brand and model that sells locally for $35 + tax which is too high so found the same make and model at B&H (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/) for $13.79 shipped.

I wanted to get a practice laser that chambers and flashes a beam down the barrel for 20 milliseconds when the striker is fired but they are close to $100. But heck if this doesn't work I'll tease one of the neighbor's cats that treat my yard like their own (but not in the eyes).

I love that site, and all the 44 other cheeseburger sites. Electrical tape may work better than rubber bands, just clean a little afterwards. As for the cats, a bowl of anti-freeze, or an AD make that problem go away.

This laser thing is pretty nifty. I aligned it to my PM9 and just like that I can see where it will hit. I have been prejudiced against them for carry considering them a crutch but now am becoming more open minded about it.

While not black dark out I would have a difficult time sighting a target at 100' - not that I think I'll ever need to. The practice laser attached with a couple rubber bands is very bright at 100', so if need be on a "real laser" I would likely be very accurate at this time of day. I even shined it on my neighbors tall trees over 200' away and there it was like a little red bird.

Not a bad device after all.

Nothing wrong going cheap. I converted my Ruger 10-22 to an AR15 style, and thought I would use an old scope I had in the gun closet. Never could get it dialed in. I went to my LGS, bought a cheap red dot ($35), mounted it, went to range, and in about 30 min's I'm zeroed in, hitting wherever the little red dot is. Life is good ;)
