View Full Version : K9 traded for a P9....
Since the K9 seemed destined to languish in "no sale" land and I had to get out of the house today(had Lasik surgery Friday night and recovered Sat.). I decided to shop the gun around and look for a CM9 or such. I started hitting shops the CM is nowhere to be found, but after handling a few PMs I realized the smaller gun is not going to make much difference in carry-ability vs. the P/CW/K sized pistols unless I planned to pocket carry, which I don't. It is the K9's weight that bothers me in lighter clothes. Also, the good ol' FFL's were offering me all of ~$250 for the K9  ....It wasn't looking good. I hit one last shop....They happen to have the nice P9 you see below and made me a fair offer of the K9 + $60. I took the deal. Its S/N is YA38xx born around 2003. It is a little older, but looks to hardly have been shot much at all. No wear on the rails, barrel or guild rod. Outside looks great and once home all it needed was a wipe down and lube, I patched the bore but they came out white..
With the K9 and P9 side by side, in hand there is a big difference in weight. Too verify, once I got the P9 cleaned and loaded I put it on the scale to get the true difference.
The K9 loaded and holstered weighted in at: 33.36 oz. This P9 with the same load and holster weights: 23.32oz.
I can't shoot(or workout) for a week due to the Lasik, but I'll get a range report up as soon as I can. I know how it'll shoot ;) I'm just hoping for more of that awesome Kahr reliability....

The P9 is a very seductive piece... just the right size, just the right weight, and so potent. I think you'll find it shoots and feels very similar to your K9. I like to use a grip sleeve on mine. It helps make it a perfect fit for my hand. Enjoy your new P9.

I have a P9 and like it very much. I think you will too. I've used it in and informal IDPA league, and was very satisfied with th eperformance. The only draw back was low capacity magazines. But other than more frequent reloads, the gun was right on and was 100% reliable w/ 115 FMJ. Hope yours works as well for you.

Congratulations on the trade, PaiN. I'm glad to hear that you got something in return you were looking for. Hope it runs great for you! If I remember right now, you've come full circle, right (back to the P9). I may be remembering wrong, but for some reason I remember you (or someone else) having a great-running P9 that they regretted selling.

You sort-of remember correctly....I went nuts a few years ago and spent close to $800 on a Black P9 w/night sights...I loved it, the pistol was beautiful and it ran like a dream but I worried myself sick carrying the thing :o I didn't even want to practice draws in case I put ware on it.....
I had to get rid of it....I traded a friend for a CW9(very nice too) and a handful of cash. Somehow I got the notion I wanted to carry a snubbie revolver and ended up selling the CW9 too "aray" here on the forum who's enjoying it to this day. I don't regret selling the first P9 I went over-board, the CW9 would have been a great CCW keeper though....I've been through a few "options" since then, tried a few nice and not so nice pistols.....I'm back to Kahr, which are the best carry pistols in the world no matter what flavor you pick :D
Here's a pic of that old P9 of mine....

K9 is on my wish list. Curious why you fell out of love with it. Must have been a nice, easy shooter, though. Jodie Foster liked hers.
