View Full Version : Bloated

After shooting my PM9 for about 500 rounds now, I am struck by how this little 9'er makes my other pistols feel bloated in my hand. Before the Kahr, a Sig P239 was my smallest gun. Now that seems big - even too big.
BTW, I've been a reader of this board for some time now and this is my first post. Your information was a great help in my decision to buy the black PM9, in getting it running properly, and soon for purchasing a holster.
Thanks to you all.
I have the same reaction. In addition to my Kahr CW9 I also own two Beretta 92 Fs - purchased decades before my Kahr. I still like the 92s, a lot, but at the same time I sense the "bloated" feeling you describe above.

EB: Have you selected a holster yet? If not look up the Silent Thunder by Garrett Industries. The PM9 nestles in perfectly and with the single belt clip it just slips behind your pants and off you go.
Great feed back here in the last couple days about how they treated a fellow member beyond the norm.

Welcome to Kahrtalk! Glad to read you've got your PM9 up and running properly. I know the feeling. :D
Bloated? That's how my PM9 feels compared to my P3AT and how my Glock to the Kahr. It is all relative. I've always liked small carry guns, two finger grip and pinky underneath.

A few years ago, my youngest son and I took bullseye training from the Army Marksmanship Team. Our instructor told us not to use a strong grip with the pinky because it will pull the shot down, and not to use a strong grip with the thumb because it will push the shot right. (If you're right handed.)
Ever since, I have not used my pinky or thumb to grip the pistol. That serves me well with the PM9. It's a natural thing for me now.

I have not yet selected a holster, but have read several threads on this site about them. The Silent Thunder is of interest and definitely on the possibles list.
Most of my other holsters are Milt Sparks Versa Max 2's. They are great pieces well suited for bloated guns, but I won't need that much leather to tote the Kahr.
Thanks for your recommendation. I want to "pull the trigger" on a holster purchase soon.

Bloated? Yeah, okay, I'll admit it. I'm bloated most of the time.

E the B,
I know the dilemma you're facing with holsters. Being new to CCW, I think:confused: my preference is pocket or AIWB. That being said, I ordered the High Noon Alter Ego, Garrett Ind Silent Thunder, Crossbreed Minituck, Garrity Sneaky Pete, and the High Noon Pocket Grabber. I don't know if the shotgun approach to holster selection is the way to go. But until you try it, how do you know? Also, I don't feel so bad when I go on the holster boards and folks have 10 times the number of carry options I'm dealing with. And most of these folks have a gun for every holster!! Also keep in mind that if a particular holster doesn't work out for you. If it's a quality piece, someone out there is waiting to buy it used. Keep the Kahr Forum Classifieds or Ebay on the back burner.
Seeing that you're considering the GI Silent Thunder. Let me say that when I slid my PM9 into that holster. My first impression was. "WOW, THIS IS NICE." I was already impressed with the quality of the holster because I got the Silent Thunder before I got my gun. But when I was finally able to marry the two, it was a perfect match! My CT LG437 won't be here until next week. So obviously, these pics are sans the laser. But looking at the voids in the holster. The laser should make the fit even better.
Keep in mind this is coming from someone who has 0, that's ZERO, experience with concealed carry. However, I do believe that you don't have to be an expert in anything to recognize quality craftsmanship. I based my purchase decisions with these holsters, on the favorable reports I'd read on various forums. That is one reason I tried, still trying, to get my hands on a Dale Fricke Joab. With all of the positive reviews on Dale's holsters. I wanted to see how the ST would stack up against the Joab. For now, Fricke doesn't make the Joab to fit the PM9 w/CT.
One last comment. I have yet to strap on any of these holsters. Just got my PM the other day. The most visually striking holster may be a turd when put to use. I plan to post some real life use reports when I have some credible time spent with each holster.
Anywho--here are a few pics with the Silent Thunder and the PM9, sans Laserguard. Hope this helps in YOUR decision.

Cash,
That damn cigar has been sitting on the table for 3 months. Had to use it for something. 2 weddings and 1 Med school graduation within the next month. Maybe that will do the trick?
EB,
Don't mention it.

72guy, 2 weddings and a Med school graduation...yeah, you're living life with gusto my friend! And if that cigar has been sitting on the table for 3 months I wouldn't smoke it (without having it recover in a humidor), it will just be a disappointment.

Wow that looks awesome, Thank You for the picture! Just added this holster to my B-Day list.
So Sweet. Let us know how you like the other ones. I have a crossbread for my FN Five-Seven and really like it but for a small pistol I think this takes the cake.

After just one trip to the range with my new CM9 and all of a sudden my SIGs just don't feel right in my hand. I was going to shoot my SP 2022 for a while after my first session with the CM9 today and I just didn't want to cause it felt HUGE. I shot two rounds and went back to the Kahr. What is happening to me???

Cash,
Not to worry. I've found that the info posted on the KahrTalk Forums transcends guns. Just a quick spray and that cigar is good as new. Not to mention she lights up real quick.;)

Ken,
Glad the pics were of some use. Sounds like you've had a good experience with your Crossbreed. Reports such as yours were the reason I had to give the Minituck a try.
So far, the thing that strikes me most about the Silent Thunder ( along with the quality and craftsmanship ) is it's diminutive size. I posted a picture in another thread of the ST next to a High Noon Alter Ego. It may not have appeared to be much of a difference in the pic. But, holding the two holsters and looking at them side by side, it is significant. That being said, when I slipped the Alter Ego IWB it felt very comfortable. I don't want to be quick to judge any of these holsters. Many satisfied users with all of them. And what really works for one person may not work for another. If you have any questions on the ST, call Garrett Ind and talk to Ron. Super friendly guy and he will take the time to answer all of your questions and concerns.

I had a sort of similar thing happen last night at the range. I took my shiny new commander out, ran it dry, then switched to my MKII. First magazine and a half felt like I had a squib load every time I pulled the trigger. It just felt off, took me a minute to think about it and get it right in my head. As for the feel of my other pistols, they feel fine, but then I rotate so often that none get jealous.
