Picked up a new CW45 for $429 out the door, at home I gave it a modified jocko lube and prep, sorry jocko. Next day I went to an indoor range and the first thing I noticed was I could sling shot the first round into the chamber from a full magazine. With my CW9 and PM9 I always follow the factory recommendations on loading a Kahr but it’s just something I wanted to try. Next thing I noticed was at 10 to 15 yards I was able to shoot tighter groups with my CW45 than I can with my CW9, I contribute that to my CW45 having a larger grip. What else? Might be my imagination but the recoil of the CW45 felt about the same as my soft shooting CW9. Great shooting gun, put 100 rounds down range with 0 malfunctions. Back to loading with the sling shot method, I loaded the first round that way, again from a full magazine all the time I was at the range and did not have a round jam. Must be the 45 acp is larger and sits differently in the magazine? My observations after only one trip to the range and a couple of cleanings, but from what I can tell this is another great Kahr.

nice report. the reason your groups were better is that those 45's travel so damn slow the bullet has alot of time messing around in the air to find it's target. In slow motion u would have actually seen that bullet changing directions alot to get on target to make you happy. No crapola, that is what the GREAT ONE told me in his attempt to get me to buy one of those monstrous guns The price is dead on to. someday you will buy a cm45 for the sameprice to.

You must be talking about Bawanna, and thank you. I was wondering why my empty’s were hitting the floor before the holes appeared in the target.

Another 100 to 150 flawless rounds and it to will become my primary carry. I have a box of 230 grain Speer Gold Dot just waiting.

Glad to hear it Frank! Hope you continue to have great sucess with your .45. Mine would slingshot a round in ok too.
But it's homesick and needs to go visit its parents.

Tom, I saw your post and I’m sorry you are having issues with your 45 but I’m sure when it’s done visiting it’s parents and comes home it will run like a fine tuned machine. Let us know how you make out.
Thank you

Hi Frank,
It made it to the mothership this morning. I asked them if they would give it a real good test firing before returning it. Also asked them to put a bevel on the end of the guide rod to make it easier to reassemble, hard to say if that will get done or not.
If not, got my file handy to do it myself. A friend that owns one, says if you tip the barrel up 5 degrees or so, then the guide rod slips in better. Tried it, and didn't seem to work any better. Did you have any trouble getting the guide rod back into place? Does yours have a bevel? I finally put put the end of the guide rod against the fridge and was able to push it in far enough to slip into place, read about that trick on another thread. The guide rod on my CW40 has the bevel and goes into place with very little effort. Couldn't believe how difficult it was when I tried to put my .45 back together. Anyway, we'll see how she performs when she gets back from her trip home. I'll post after experiences after my first trip back to the range. Hopefully all will be good. I'm really happy you're having good luck with yours.
Take Care

My CW45 and CW9 have about a 1/16 to 1/8 chamfer or bevel on the end of the recoil spring guide rod. Let’s hope the next trip to the range you will see a big improvement. I just upgraded my CW45 to carry status, second trip to the range yesterday 150 FMJ for a two range total of 250 rounds plus 20 rounds Speer Gold Dot 230 grain JHP my carry ammo. Let us know how you make out once to get you CW45 back.

Interesting about the CW45 slingshotting. My CW45 manual recommends using the slide release for the first round, whereas my K40 manual makes no mention of the slide release, just a standard slingshot racking. Nuts, one more thing to remember...though I could just use the slide release to "rack" both pistols for the sake of consistency.

FWIW, my 45 doesn't have the beveled guide rod either, but I don't think I've had any trouble reassembling the slide. Maybe I've just been lucky.;)

One more thing, last week I did a complete slide disassembly to ensure there was no remaining grease or detritus, and what to my wondering eyes should appear but a perfectly clean, lightly lubed interior. So now I'm wondering why some are presumably shipped with so much gunk whereas mine (and maybe others) were not. This was a NIB purchase from a dealer, btw.

My PM45 was pristine and lightly oiled as well. Not the tiniest trace of anything in there that shouldn't be. It was beautiful.

Haven't figured that one out myself either. Some reported full of junk, others pristine..........
