I stopped into Wally World for a couple boxes of .45 and all they had were 100 round boxes of Remington UMC JHPs. Before I plunked down $41, figured I should get a little info on them first, will they feed reliably in my CW45? I still need to do the 200 round break in, could I use them now or wait until later? Thanks in advance.

Normally you should use a FMJ for the Kahr breakin. I'm not an expert at all. They may work.

Yeah, stick with Cheapola FMJ for your break-in period. In the event you have jams or issues, you won't be kicking yourself every time you squeeze the trigger.

But if you do your break-in with the UMC JHP, you would have the added benefit of being 100% confident that your self defense load will feed reliably through your new gun, while at the same having the knowledge that you have properly broke in your PM!

absolutley nothing wrong with breakingin a gun with defense ammo.; It is the cost we refer to. If it won't shoot fmj, it probably won't shoot hp ammo, so that is why we normally say shoot fmj ammo. It is lower in cost by a wide margin, but nothing wrong in breaking it in with hp ammo either. Being u don't know the gun good yet to maybe even know maybe what defense brand you want to eventually carry in the gun, hold off until you break it in good and then decide on the actuall carry round that you want and test out that way. If by chance that brand doesn't do well and by that I mean perfect. go to another brand. All this defense stuff is good stuff, u can read and read and just get confused more. We all have our previouncess and I won't state mine, as I have 3 that I lean towards and it makes no difference to me what one is in the gun.

bottom line is that what ever round u choose, IT UST BE TOTALLY RELIABLE, no if's and's or butts about it. Uneed not shoot 200 rounds of defense ammo either, I would think 50 would be enough to let you know or aybe even less, that is ur call. Your not gonna use that defense ammo, so for me during the nice season here where I do alot of shooting, I tend to empty my carry defense magazine at least once a month into paper and start with a fresh new defense magazine. Just a habit I started. some go longer which is OK, also gets some rotation of your defense rounds to. Fresh is always better.

sometmes the connotation of "cheapo" might to some mean sub par ammo. buy good american made ammo, and just shoot it like u stole it. Ur gonna know real quick in the first 100 rounds how your gun is going to act. The last 100 IMO is just smoothing out the gun better, maybe smoothing out so that hand racking is a breeze, slide release smoother., maby magazine dropping better.

If u have not visited the kahr tech section and hit on two good threads, do this now.
Two fine sticky's that will make ur first event a fun one.

#1` Kahr lube chart, this is the finest for any semi.

#2 Propper prepping of your new kahr. It will answers most of ur questions..

USAmmo is my new favorite. American made and you can get 9mm for ridiculous prices; like, $8.45 for a box of 50 (http://www.usaammo.com/1-50-rd-Box-of-9mm-Luger-115-gr-FMJ-P330.aspx). Brass cases and everything. I just picked up a case of 1,000 rounds and couldn't be happier. Fired more than a hundred of 'em today with no failures at all and they're as accurate as the gun is. Then again, I shouldn't be surprised; no matter what I do I haven't been able to get my CW9 to hiccup. I just love this thing! :)

I noticed the same at my store all I saw was one box of Remington JHP until I realized they also carry Federal 45 FMJ. I think my minds eye was total focused on looking for Winchester White box. The Federals have a smaller box than Winchester and I usually find them next to the Federal 9mm so they kind of blend in.

Good morning, yes my super duper wally has federal, usally a couple of bucks less than WWB. You can buy two 50 round boxes of federal for three or four dollars less than the 100 round WWB.

How does the USA Ammo (reloads) do in your pistol?

Back in the Obama guns and ammo scare I bought a Keltec P3AT. Only ammo I could find to break it in was Remington JHP. Bought it, and broke the gun in with it. No problems breaking the P3AT in with it.

For some reason that gun liked JHP better than FMJ.

That stuff used to be total trash..
I wouldn't even shoot it in my MIL's gun it was so bad.
That was a few years ago and they may have improved it some by now but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but my worst enemy.
YMMV.. :p

I was looking for the Federal 'cause they had two boxes of it a few days ago, but all the .45 were picked clean except for the JHPs. I Stopped at another store last night and picked up two boxes of non Brass Blazer for $16 each. Now if we could get some decent weather, it's snowing lightly right now, I'd head out to the range!

Oh yeah, I read & re-read both of those, thanks for posting the break in procedures. At night I've been racking the slide while I watch TV ;)

Same here. I went to wally world and bought a box of Remington JHP .45. That's all they had -- the 100 rd value pack. I did not know they were jhp until I got home. I assumed they were fmj ball ammo.

I'm glad that wasn't my experience! The USAmmo rounds I bought are indeed factory reloads. I believe they're calling them "remanufactured". If you look at the marking on the brass, they're all be from different brands. They also sell factory new ammo for another buck of two per box, but I'm a cheapskate. I shot 100 rounds of the remanufactured stuff yesterday with no problems at all.

Obviously I can't generalize to everybody, but I had a great experience. If you're wary, why not buy a box or two to try it out?

That's good to know.
maybe they have indeed improved their process.

IIRC the box of 45acp I bought would not even chamber correctly, but that was some time ago. Finally wound up shooting them in an old revolver.

Long time ago, I found a 100 round pack of those Remington's, and it was cheaper than WWB ball ammo. I bought it, qualified for my first CHL (another story for another time), and it was fine. Shot a 249 out of 250 because I was playing, that was back when I had the Llama, a 380, and a MKII as my only semi's. I am still rebuilding my arsenal as you can see.

My WM carries Federal ball in 9mm and 45. I stopped buying it in 45 [don't need 9mm] after they had the recall and I had five boxes of the effected lot. They replaced the 250 rounds last week so I'll use that, but I doubt that I will buy any more.

I've used the Remington UMC hp's before and it seems like pretty good ammo. I've even carried it occasionally back when 45 of any kind was impossible to get.

went to WM today and bought all the 9mm they had in federal. got 4 boxes and that was it. The other 3 WM's did not have any at all. They did have wwb in 100 pk. for 23.50. Looks like i will have to just keep going back till I find enough.

I used two boxes of WWB val pack 45 FMJ and 1 UMC val pack 45 HP to break in a couple new 45's yesterday. It feeds and shoots just fine. I will say that UMC powders seem to have more flash than the Winchester stuff. I noticed with with the UMC .380 and .45.

To the OP, all the Remington UMC JHP that I've run (9mm for me, .45 through my friend's) have run fine and dandy. At one time at WM, they were running the same price as the FMJ so I went with it.

To jocko, I know every WM is different, but two of the three near me always keep the Federal separate from all other ammo for some reason - opposite counters and you can't see both at the same time. I know you got the insider deal at WM (it's good to have connections) so I'm guessing you would know if they had it or not. But might be worth checking into? I wish they would just group them all together by 9mm, .40, etc. so you can see all the choices available all at the same time and compare.
