You guys that said Kahr swapped out your 7rd for a 6rd. Who made this happen for you? I called Jay today and he didn't seem willing to help, even after I described the issues with the 2nd round in the 7rd mag.

Jay authorized the return of my 7 rounder. I sent a letter with it stating I'd like a six instead, and that's what they sent.

Jay's probably sick of swapping the magazines, as at least a handful of people have had Jay swap their magazines in the last few weeks (that we know of - has to be more than that). I'd be sick of taking in that 7 round annoyance too if that's all I did!

You use any "punch words"? I thought I explained my issue with it well enough. Maybe case of a bad Monday?

As we speak, Kahr has my 7 & 8 round mags and are sending me two sixers! Jay was who I spoke to on the phone. Maybe you need to sweet-talk him! ;)

I kept the 7 rounder and bought a second 6 rounder. I like to use the 7 rounder alongside the others at the range as it is the only way I will ever get a chance to practice clearing jams.

I use my 7 rounder as a Barney mag for +1'ing at the range and at matches.

Jody, apologies mate, but could you please translate for a poor foreigner who doesn't shoot matches. :o

Barney Fife was a US television character from the vintage Andy Griffith Show. He was a deputy sheriff who was such an oaf he was required to carry his gun unloaded and could only have one bullet in his pocket. Here's a link:

If and when I get a CW9 will the 7 round mag from a PM9 work with the CW? Just have to switch out the bottom plate?
Really wanting to get a CW these days.

You use a "Barney mag" to load the first round into the chamber then insert your topped off carry mag.
That way you start out with the maximum capacity in your gun for the match stage.
Speeds things along in matches.
Who "Barney" is was explained in a previous post.

Jay said I should send in my defective 7 rounder to have it replaced. In my letter along with the returned mag I asked that it be replaced with a six rounder. A six rounder is what came back to me and it has functioned without issue.

It's worth noting that this load method puts additional strain and wear and tear on the extractor from riding over the case rim rather than feeding into position while feeding from the mag.
Many manufacturers discourage this type of loading. I'm not aware of any warnings from Kahr regarding this and maybe theres enough travel in the extractor channel to allow this to work.
Just something to consider.

are you talking about manually placing a round into the chamber then dropping the slide on it?
he's saying you chamber a round with the one mag, then insert another.

As usual I may have misunderstood his meaning. Upon rereading I believe your are correct and I was totally WRONG. No worries with his method.

i'm sure loading that way would be pretty hard on extractors... you hit that part on the head :D

Thanks Jody, that makes sense. I would not have thought to use a second mag to load the first round. It certainly would save a lot of time.

u did the right thing. IMO they would be better opff putting a spare 6 rounder in with the gun than a 7 rounder that even if it works, most do not use it and it is so damn butt ugly.:yo:

it probably is the ugliest mag ever, makes the gun look cheaply made at first glance. The "kahr mag gap" kind of does the same thing.... you would think they would fix it for that reason alone. Unless the "gap" is their unofficial trademark. Just like Michael Strahan's front tooth gap.

You don't understand the process do you?
I'll spell it out step by step.
Insert 7 round magazine.
Hit slide release to chamber round.
Remove 7 round magazine.
Insert 6 round magazine into pistol.
Gun is now loaded 6+1.

Apheod provided me some fine diagrams drawn I think in Crayola crayon. Lovely pictures and not too big a words and made me understand your process.
I misread your idea the first time (I apologized for my inherent stupidity in front of God and all members) but with his wonderful drawing skills I've seen the light. So for today I win the stupidest derelict that ever rolled the face of the earth armed and deadly award. No trophy or cash prize involved unfortunately.
Your numbering each individual step in the process will help me absorb the finer details of loading my gun also.
I shall continue to study the numerical details in depth as the evening proceeds.
Thank you and have a pleasant tomorrow.

Did you guys have to get an RMA number from Kahr to return the 7 round mag and get the 6 round mag exchange? Or did they just tell you to send it in with your own letter stating you wanted an exchange?

I used my own shipping box and did not have to get an RMA. I made sure to put a note (printout of email) and emphasized that I wanted the 6 round magazine back. Worked for me.
