I知 heading to Pittsburg next weekend for the NRA convention. Kahr has a display there so I hope to have a very good look at the CM9. Glock, Ruger and others will be there as well so I値l have a look at their offerings too.

Is anyone else going and do they have restrictions on legal CCW in the convention hall? In PA we are not to have municipalities making regulations on CCW but the convention center still can say no. Maybe the NRA has a check-in since they had some trouble with one of the past conventions regarding this issue. I知 going on a group bus so I don稚 want to leave my pistol there.

Our honorable and much respected leader JohnH will be in the Kahr booth. I'm sure he might know what the rules are as far as CCW's. I'd be a little surprised if they are allowed at all and I'd be very surprised if they have any sort of check in. Maybe so but I suspect the multitude of visitors would overwelm a check in system.

As I recall none were allowed when it was in Seattle but that was in a near previous life long agbo so things may certainly have changed.

Just had a quick search and found this:

I seem to remember a big stink a year or so ago when a convention center pulled the rug out from everyone and changed their rules after the event had started. This made those who were legally carrying suddenly no longer legal. The NRA, according to the above article from Pittsburgh, made it an issue for booking the site this year.

"Officials are closing 10th Street under the convention center to handle registration duties for the big event. Unlike last year's convention in North Carolina -- which prohibited permitted gun owners from carrying weapons on-site, to the consternation of many attendees -- Pittsburgh will allow it.
The NRA made the concealed-carry issue a condition of booking the convention, convention center general manager Mark Leahy said, and the center was happy to agree, especially given how smoothly the group's last convention in Pittsburgh went in 2004."

From the above article.

Thanks for finding this. I'd been wondering about it myself since I will be attending. Maybe I'll see you there.

This is the answer to an email I sent to the NRA over the weekend:

Thank you for writing the NRA.

Please read this statement from the NRA Annual Meeting website http://www.nraam.org/

Note: Lawfully carried firearms are permitted in the Convention Center, in the Exhibit Hall and in the CONSOL Energy Center. Heinz Field prohibits the possession of firearms. When carrying your firearm, remember to follow all federal, state and local laws.

Thank you for your support!

I wanted to go to the convention in Charlotte but I coudn`t make it.Do you have to pay an admission fee to get in? If so,that would explain the no carry rule at the Charlotte convention. In North Carolina it is illegal to carry a concealed handgun [even with a permit] into any place that charges admission.I never have agreed with that statute but the NC legislature isn`t really concerned with whether or not I agree with them. There is a gun show in Raleigh this weekend I plan to attend and I can`t carry there either because there is an admission charge. Can`t carry in a movie theater either.

There is a $10 admission charge if you're not a member of the NRA. Members get in for free. I have never heard of that law Dietrich. NC has some strange ones.

You betcha. If you think the laws are strange, you should see the folks in the NC legislature.I believe they actually take drooling breaks while in session.

The wife & I are probably going to the Methods of Concealed Carry seminar on Saturday: http://www.nraam.org/events/seminars.html

Be warned, though. I heard on the radio that gun control groups are going to be demonstrating outside the Convention Center.

At least one protest -- called the March to Keep Illegal Guns Off the Street -- is scheduled for noon Saturday, starting at Freedom Corner in the Hill District. Gun control advocates CeaseFirePa will join in the march to the convention center, and plan to run advertisements during the week urging NRA leaders to agree to measures requiring the reporting of lost and stolen firearms to police.

I have never read of a statute in PA about restrictions in a place that requires and entrance fee.

Just saw this today - Primanti Bros. supports Bloomberg's Mayors Against Illegal Guns:

Too bad; they have some damn good food. They're not getting any of my money, though.

Well I got to the NRA convention and was able to legally carry my LCP. :) I even saw a few people carrying open with full sized pistols. Hats off to the NRA, the convention center and Pittsburgh!

It was a great place to be. I think I have about 30lbs. of 2011 catalogs from just about everyone involved in the gun industry. Nine full hours of walking the isles and even had the opportunity to shoot one of the IZH target air pistols at $1 per 5 shots. I was also able to handle the CM9, Kimber Solo (nice, but about $200 more than the CM9), Ruger LC9 and just about every thing else you could think of. Finances are currently kind of tight but I'm going to work toward buying a CM9. My G27 is still a viable option for carry except when I need to wear my pleated Dockers. Until I get a smaller 9mm, my .380 LCP will do duty in those cases.

Oh yeah........didn't see any protesters.
