Thats been on my want list for a long time now. You know how you ponder in your mind what a person looks like and then when you see em you realize you were about 47 miles off. Incidently I wasn't too far off on you if that was in fact you with your dog awhile back. Maybe younger by a few years than what I had in my head. I think want is within reason. I gotta find somebody in Indiana that knows how to post a picture so we can make that happen.

Yup thats reasonable but again you'd have to delve into Jocko's head to see em. The good news is they weren't near as pretty as the pink ones I'm making for your shiney new 1911. They gonna be HOT!:2eek::target:

Oh great! Send em on. I'll even take pictures and post them in the forum (somewhere)

BTW - what size drill bit do you use for the grips? The 1911 kind of threw me with having a post.

1/4" but it then needs to be enlarged a tiny bit. The next size up even with my close fractioned set is too big. I like my grips TIGHT.

You might want to throw a ruler on the bushing (post) to double check my memory. Many as I drilled I still measure. You find some wood?

I used my dial calipers to measure the post and at the top it's near 1/4" and slightly larger at the base. The posts on mine have a slight step in them. Got the same problem with the bits I have. The next size up may be too big. Got all kinds of needle files from my wood carving hobby of the year.

Gonna do a quick and dirty out of some of the zebra wood I have left over from other projects. If they do well, I may go get some carved/jigged water buffalo horn from Texas Knifemakers supply or try out that barb wire micarta.

Bawanna
04-27-2011, 06:13 PM
Yup, ya gotta make a step for the base of the post and also for the screw head itself. They don't leave alot of margin. The screw head is only slightly larger than the bushing/post. Gotta be right on the money.

Water Buffalo horn? I didn't see that, gotta go look again.

Bwanna,

You do know that an "F" drill bit is .257 and a 5.5 MM is .253, right? Are those anywhere nearer the size you need?

MW surveyor

Ok, the lower part of the post measures 0.270 and the upper measures 0.235. So what size is the upper? Real close to 15/64 (0.234375") or 5.969 mm. Drill bit size?

Bawanna

Bwanna,

Damn, your a genius. That would probably be perfect. Worked in a warehouse with a whole wall full of every kind of drill bit you could think of. Never thought of letter and number drills.

I use that 1/4" to drill all the way thru, then enlarge the bottom for the shelf, and the top for the grip screw.
I've often thought how cool it would be to have a perfectly fitted step drill but my drill press isn't that precise probably either and I've torn wood before.

We're getting better and quicker in the first stage of getting them "hanging on the gun". I need to come up with a metal pattern for a jig, take the guess work out of getting the holes in the right place. Too busy making grips to worry about the assembly line.

Bill

You remember when we were shooting last. The range officer Manny gave me a big bag of 45 cases as I've had it in the back of my mind for months to get a 45. Then I did the calcs about reloading for the 45 and found that it would cost me about 1 to 2 cents more than the 9 mm or 357 to reload for it. That kind of made me think more about really getting one.

Went to all of the LGSs in our area. Found the Para GI Expert in stainless at AGR one day and had to get it after debating all night. All she wrote, whipped out the check book and took it home the next day! That is, after buying 200 rounds of factory for the break in, the dies and large pistol primers.

Shot it on Monday after Easter as I had the granddaughter for that week and the rest of the gang over the Easter weekend. Not a tack driver yet, but it is learning :)

Today a Sgt from a neighboring agency offered me first dibs on one of his guys gun sale.

The gun.

Custom TLE/RL II Kimber 45 w/the following
13 mags
Duty magazine holder
Duty holster
Surefire Underlight
2 off duty Galco holsters
Off duty cuff/mag pouch

Whole deal for 1000 bucks. To save time I had one of the girls call (faster) said I'd take it.

TOO LATE- he'd posted it at his PD and it sold in 4 minutes. I was sooooo bummed. So much for first dibs.

Oh well.

Your damn good Tucson. I told my son about it within earshot of the mentioned blond and added exactly your little twist. Probably saved me a beatin for sure.

What a sweet deal though, would have been worth a little blood and bruises.

What a sweet deal though . . .
I feel your pain. A week before tax time, I passed on a Kimber Super Carry Pro. The guy selling it is solid and was willing to drive down from Phoenix to deliver it for gas money and the $1000 he needed for taxes. I should add that he bought it from a friend, broke it in to become reliable with JHP, and then had the frame and all controls refinished by Robar to eliminate the idiot scratch installed by the original owner. The only part of the pistol with the original POS Kimpro coating is the slide.

Oh, and I have been dreaming of an alloy framed bobtail since taking delivery of my Dan Wesson CBOB, so you know it was hard to do the right thing and pass knowing that today was likely to be my last day working for the small California start-up that is currently busy going out of business.

Yeah, I made some points with SWMBO and avoided the guilt I would now feel as a bum.

It was the right thing to do. Keep reminding yourself of that. :D

And, thanks for the kind words about strategy. I'm pleased it worked for you! :)

Bawanna
04-29-2011, 01:51 PM
We can grieve together I guess. I forgot your right in Robar's neighborhood. That would be a good place to have local. I've sent all our dept G21's to them for grip reductions and textures. Had 2 dept sniper rifles built by them.

Be cool to drive up and drop off and pickup or just visit.

Picked up a couple friends at the airport last night back from Phoenix, it was relatively warm here by our standards but they said it was 90 -95 down there, they wanted their flannel shirts post haste. I could handle a little hot or at least nice and warm weather.

Now last night my son tells me a tool guy at work has an M1A for sale. He's reconning that for me today. I need a bigger marble sack. Maybe thats not the right terminology. I need to be not sooo poor.

Grandmother was laying in the hospital bed in a coma. She was connected to several monitors, IVs, and other hospital equipment and had been there for several days.

She had spoken her last words and the family was gathered in her room quietly waiting for the inevitable.

Finally, the doctor spoke.

He told them that her brain was dead but her heart was still beating. The family gasped in unison, shocked at what they had just heard.

This was the first time there had been a Democrat in the family.

Do you remember when in high school english you had classroom exercises to demonstrate your grasp of Analogies? The samples below are a few from a list of 56 I received today. I suppose you need a sick (read high school) sense of humor but I found them funny anyway.
---------------------
1. She had a deep, throaty, genuine laugh, like that sound a dog makes just before it throws up.

2. The ballerina rose gracefully en pointe and extended one slender leg behind her, like a dog at a fire hydrant.

3. She grew on him like she was a colony of E. coli and he was room-temperature Canadian beef.

4. His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free.

5. Shots rang out, as shots are wont to do.

6. The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t.

7. Her hair glistened in the rain like a nose hair after a sneeze.

8. The hailstones leaped from the pavement, just like maggots when you fry them in hot grease.

9. He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant and she was the East River.

10. Even in his last years, Grand pappy had a mind like a steel trap, only one that had been left out so long, it had rusted shut.

11. She was as easy as the TV Guide crossword.

12. She walked into my office like a centipede with 98 missing legs.

13. The plan was simple, like my brother-in-law Phil. But unlike Phil, this plan just might work.

14. "Oh, Jason, take me!" she panted, her breasts heaving like a college freshman on $1-a-beer night.

15. It hurt the way your tongue hurts after you accidentally staple it to the wall.

16. It was an American tradition, like fathers chasing kids around with power tools.

17. He was deeply in love. When she spoke, he thought he heard bells, as if she were a garbage truck backing up.

18. The baseball player stepped out of the box and spit like a fountain statue of a Greek god that scratches itself a lot and spits brown, rusty tobacco water and refuses to sign autographs for all the little Greek kids unless they pay him lots of drachmas.

I have to prepare thank you cards for you and Old Lincoln for mentoring me in picture sharing.

I just got back from a near perfect day at the range. Not a single malfunction of any kind in 7 different guns, bucket of bullets expended. A little crowded which is a little unusual.

Sons new Springfield never missed a beat, accurate as the dickens and all that porting on top makes it a real soft shooter. I didn't think that much till I shot it side by side with my Cbob. It's nice. No bothersome flash, slightly louder perhaps but not bothersome.
The vintage Redfield scope I put on my 17HMR worked perfectly and my Davy Crockett bore sight job in the back yard put me within a inch of the bull.
And the best part if my JohnH copy cat grips took the full meal deal and no signs of cracks or failures of any kind. That there all by itself plumb made my day.
The suns out, it's warm and already late afternoon but it's a good day. Lots of gun cleaning later tonight and probably tomorrow night too.

Darn good idea, darn good. It'll be good practice for me to enlist my new found skills before I forget. It will be a later, I refuse to post pictures of a dirty gun and I got lots to do for a little bit. Mom's got a little chaffed backside, haven't figured out why yet and I seldom know anyhow so we roll with that.

I'll indeed get some pictures up soon as I can make it happen.

I kicked myself since I forgot the camera again at the range, wanted to get some action shots of the Springer and others. Plus I had some incredible 1 shot groups out to about 10 yards, well under an inch.
Kid asked me where I was aiming, I said you see the durn hole don't ya? That's where I was shooting. Dang I'm good. Another Jocko lesson right there. If you get lucky enough to hit something, pack up and call it a day.

Good plan! And, while you're at it, tell the blond how much you appreciate her concern. Heck, you might even buy her a drink! ;)

The sick part of this whole story is she saw my son make multiple trips to the van with gun related stuff. He just got the springer monday so he's been aching to shoot it. We've talked about it at the dinner table all week. I got a horrible cold so we were just hoping I was alive enough to go. We always go Sunday morning before the crowds get there.
She walked up to my drivers window as I was getting in and asked where we were going, I asked if she wanted to come, she just walked away.
She was gone all day yesterday branding and vacinating her freinds cows, thursday and friday at a emroidery class, (that's gotta be exciting).
I guess I didn't give enough preplan notice.
Some day when I grow up, I'm gonna get to be my own man. I'll wear the pants and make decisions. It's the chair, nobody listens to a guy in a chair.
20 years of construction means nothing, she knows everything.
A few quiet days and maybe back to bliss for a few. I feel like a yo yo.
I think this is why I love guns so much, they seldom give me grief, they don't care what I do and they dont' tell me what to do. They love me and I love them, not in any mano guno way ya know.

I found some old pictures of some of my Zebra wood forays. They weren't on a 1911 so I didn't want to post them there with MW's. Plus I need to get muscle memory for posting pics.

Nice checkering! As you know from seeing my pride and joy Esmeralda grips, I am kind of a sucker for an outlined panel of checkering. I think it looks much nicer than the early traditional overall checkering. :)

And we can see it so much better when you post this way . . . life is good.

Now, go ask that blond for a real date. Show her you appreciate her and all the good things she does. We all need to feel appreciated. Ignore the attitude. You can do it! ;)

By the way, are outlined panels harder to do than other styles? They look like they might be.

"By the way, are outlined panels harder to do than other styles? They look like they might be."

You just have to be a little more cautious at the borders much as we as a nation should be. Had to slip that in.
You can really make it look bad if you do much overrunning. Quite often thats why you'll see ditch size borders where they cover up previous mistakes.

To me along with personal preference the gun makes a big diffence. Some guns look way better with a bordered pattern, others the full coverage or diamond pattern etc looks and works better.

Ok my zebra may not be quite as pretty as yours but I was aching to practice my new picture posting abilities so I was desperate for material. I'll show off when the package gets here. I hope. Maybe. If I'm lucky. Which I'm usually not.

I just heard about these from the place that modified my van.

For a measly 85,000 bucks or so I could be a pickup driving daddy, sure be awesome on my hill in the snow. Only slightly more than my first house and slightly less the the house I've been in for 25 years.

Unbeliveable, I think he even typed the price with a straight face.

Dang, that thing will do everything but come when you whistle! While there I looked at some others but nothing like that. It looked easy to use quick to load and really quite natural. They didn't shoe the hand controls, but I suppose they are included at that price. Only thing to do now is win that Lotto.

Bawanna
05-03-2011, 05:37 PM
For that kind of money it should come when I whistle. I liked that it does come with remote start, so on frosty mornings I can go to the window hit a button an it would start and warm up. Scraping windows is not fun.
I beleive it said the controls for the door and stuff work out to 200 ft which is cool too as long as you see your doors in the open you can push the button as you approach so you don't have to wait for it.

Me and patience you know. Your right on the lotto winning, tough enough scraping up money for tickets let alone a truck that comes when you whistle.

Those remotes can be something. True story... Last evening I was leaving a store and about 10' away unlocked my door AND the car next to it. I freaked out stopped cold trying to figure out how that happened. Then a woman walked up to that car and opened the door. Well, I bust out laughing but she didn't get it until I told her. Since we were out of sight of each other and she didn't see my car when it unlocked it wasn't as funny as to me. Can't tell you how many times I've unlocked my door and this is the first time another did theirs at exactly the same time.

Just copy the link out of the Google Mail message, rather that the URL for the message itself. :)

You can also copy the URL from the address line of your browser while you are viewing the video. Either should work.

It doesn't have no address line while I'm viewing. It has a wml or wmv or something but I tried pasting that and it didn't do nothing.

AN ACTUAL CRAIG'S LIST PERSONALS AD
To the Guy Who Tried to Mug Me in Downtown Savannah night before last.
Date: 2010-09-27, 1:43 a.m. EST
I was the guy wearing the black Burberry jacket that you demanded that I hand over, shortly after you pulled the knife on me and my girlfriend, threatening our lives. You also asked for my girlfriend's purse and earrings. I can only hope that you somehow come across this rather important message.
First, I'd like to apologize for your embarrassment; I didn't expect you to actually crap in your pants when I drew my pistol after you took my jacket. The evening was not that cold, and I was wearing the jacket for a reason. My girlfriend was happy that I just returned safely from my 2nd tour as a Combat Marine in Afghanistan . She had just bought me that Kimber Custom Model 1911 .45 ACP pistol for my birthday, and we had picked up a shoulder holster for it that very evening. Obviously you agree that it is a very intimidating weapon when pointed at your head ... isn't it?!
I know it probably wasn't fun walking back to wherever you'd come from with that brown sludge in your pants. I'm sure it was even worse walking bare-footed since I made you leave your shoes, cell phone, and wallet with me. [That prevented you from calling or running to your buddies to come help mug us again].
After I called your mother or "Momma" as you had her listed in your cell, I explained the entire episode of what you'd done. Then I went and filled up my gas tank as well as those of four other people in the gas station, -- on your credit card. The guy with the big motor home took 153 gallons and was extremely grateful!
I gave your shoes to a homeless guy outside Vinnie Van Go Go's, along with all the cash in your wallet. [That made his day!]
I then threw your wallet into the big pink "pimp mobile" that was parked at the curb ... after I broke the windshield and side window and keyed the entire driver's side of the car.
Later, I called a bunch of phone sex numbers from your cell phone. Ma Bell just now shut down the line, although I only used the phone for a little over a day now, so what 's going on with that? Earlier, I managed to get in two threatening phone calls to the DA's office and one to the FBI, while mentioning President Obama as my possible target.
The FBI guy seemed really intense and we had a nice long chat (I guess while he traced your number etc.).
;In a way, perhaps I should apologize for not killing you ... but I feel this type of retribution is a far more appropriate punishment for your threatened crime. I wish you well as you try to sort through some of these rather immediate pressing issues, and can only hope that you have the opportunity to reflect upon, and perhaps reconsider, the career path you've chosen to pursue in life.. Remember, next time you might not be so lucky. Have a good day!
Thoughtfully yours, Semper Fi,
Alex

A group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, accompanied by two female teachers, went on a field trip to the local racetrack, (Churchill Downs ) to learn about thoroughbred horses and the support of the Bourbon industry, but mostly to see the horses.

When it was time to take the children to the bathroom, it was decided that the girls would go with one teacher and the boys would go with the other. The teacher assigned to the boys was waiting outside the mens room when one of the boys came out and told her that none of them could reach the urinal.

Having no choice, she went inside, helped the boys with their pants, and began hoisting the little boys up one by one, holding on to their 'wee-wees' to direct the flow away from their clothes.

As she lifted one, she couldn't help but notice that he was unusually well endowed. Trying not to show that she was staring the teacher said, 'You must be in the 5th grade.'

'No, ma'am', he replied. 'I'm riding Silver Arrow in the seventh race, but I appreciate your help.'

Avoiding a DUI

A new way to avoid an .08 alcohol issue while driving:

I went out with some friends last night and tied one on.
Knowing that I was wasted, I did something that I have never done
before.
I took a bus home.

I arrived home safe and warm, which seemed really surprising as I have
never driven a bus before.

Remember how the Democrats grabbed onto the gas price issue to help win control of congress, and then Obama made it a big part of is campaign. This video shows the hyprocrisy of the Democrats, and their lapdog media coverage. Remember how they were griping about gas being so high when it was around $2.00 a gallon and going on about Bush and Cheney and their big oil friends were getting rich from it? My how times have changed....

Well, you're right Jocko, I guess I was trying to be a little more politcally correct. (a term I hate by the way, just another word for libtard speak).
I'm real proud that my son got thru 12 years of libtard schooling, then another 4 years of libtard higher education, and didn't lose his Christan values and beliefs, and still believes in the 2nd admendment. I believe my daughters have drunk the kool-aid though.
