Hello All, First time posting in the forum.
I've had many pistols but I had a friend who was a hardcore Kahr guy and after handling a few of his I had to have one.
I decided on a P9 as I have a CC permit and today she finally arrived.
I was breaking it down and I noticed that there seemed to be a little wear on the slide and the area on the slide where the stiker comes through. Is this normal for a new pistol that should have only been test fired a couple times? (see attachment) It looks almost brassy on the slide, I've just never seen that on any of my "new" guns before. Also, the barrel seems very dirty.

Kind of hard to tell in the picture but it does look dirty. Is it possible the dealer you bought it from allowed it to be shot. Is there a range on site?
I doubt it left Kahr looking like that. They are test fired of course but that shouldn't leave it that dirty.

It does look like it should clean up and should be cleaned and lubed using the proper prep and lube diagrams in the tech section.

I'd probably not be terribly concerned but again it's kind of hard to see.

I showed it to my buddy (the one was has several Kahrs) and he seems to think it was a range rental. Can they sell that as "new"

Not if I had anything to say about it. That would be totally and outrageously unethical to me. If you think that's the case I'd be back there complaining myself. Even you find that is the case and they give you a new one, (extremely doubtful) I'd not buy any more guns from that place. If it's the only range around I'd shoot there but not buy any guns.
Range rentals are usually quite abused. Any other signs of wear or abuse on the gun other than dirty?

Keep us posted and if you find out it was a rental, feel free to share the name of the place to warn others. That just isn't right.

Well actually it was Bud's Gun shop, and I've placed orderes there before with no probelm. THey do have a range and i know that this unit came from the retail location and wasnt drop shipped from a warehouse like some of my others. I doubt they would ever admit to it though. It's way too dirty for the one or two (or even a whoile mag) of test rounds from Kahr. You would think they would have thought to clean it really good if they were gonna resale a range rental as new though?

I've ordered numerous guns from Buds with no issues at all.

Are you local to them and picked it up or ordered on line and it was shipped to you?

As big as they are you might have a decent chance of getting a replacement over a smaller shop. I'd most definitely question them about it if you think it was used and sold as new.

Sorry I asked the name of the place now, I like Buds. Now that our state is charging tax on everything ordered on line the internet purchases lose their advantage immensely but often times Buds' has stuff others don't and occasionally some real good prices too.

It goes without saying but if you intend to ask about it I'd sure not shoot your gun until you find out what if anything they will do for you. Once you shoot it, it's game over.

I've called and been on hold for a while. i also have had nothing but great service and pricing from Bud's in the past, and I'm not saying it was a range rental, I'm just saying it was really dirty and the slide. I called Bud's and they assured me that it was never opened at their faciltiy and advised me to call Kahr. we'll see what Kahr says....

Okay, so I called Kahr and the factory rep said it wasn't outside the norm for them to test fire one or two complete mags through it as part of the Quality Assurance testing (now that's that's the job to have). So I guess that's how it came from the factory and I was just being a Ninny.

Never ever even with bamboo driven under your fingernails admit to being a Ninny.

Always, always question authority.

If it looked like it was all packaged up pretty when you opened the box your probably ok. The outside of the gun should look pristine and perfect in everyway. It would seem your probably not gonna get any solid proof either way. I dont suspect either Buds or Kahr would lie to you but you will get the pass the buck treatment. I'd run with it myself.
Go to the tech section, do the proper prep thing, clean good, look over the lube chart right below the proper prep and it should look sparkly clean and new and ready to please.
If not I guess I'm just a ninny my own self.

Let us know how she runs.

Thanks for the (moral) support. I cant wait to get to the range. I traded a Kel-Tech PF-9 for it, nothing against the Kel-tech, it's a different price point and not expected to be on par with Kahr but the PF-9 was just about unpleasnt to shoot and I hated the trigger pull, the P9 breaks almost like my 1911, and that's awesome for a DAO gun.

I think we are prejudging Buds. They seem to be reputable, they don'tneed to do that stff. Kahrs indeed does send out dirty guns. They are not lone, Urs might habve been shot more at kahrs factory than others, who knows but I would give Buds every break here insteqadof "assuming" things we really cannot prove. http://elsiepeaforum.com/forum/index.php?topic=14979.msg132936#msg132936

utations can be destroyed real fast by things like this.

I've certainly not lost any confidence in Bud's. Some have had bad experiences with them but I have had nothing but success. Tried my patience a few times but anyone that knows me would know that if they delievered an hour before I ordered it wouldn't be fast enough.

If the deal is right I'll continue shopping at Bud's without reservation.

Same here, I re-read the earlier posts and I don’t think I was downing Bud's. If someone inferred that let me be the first to say that I'm sure I will order from there again. The guy I talked to at Buds even said if I had refused it at the transfer point they would have shipped another one out. I guess i just got a little wanged out when I opened my shiny new gun that seems like I've been waiting a year for (in reality I ordered late Friday and received it today so not too shabby) and it looked like it just came back from a range trip. In a way I guess it's a testament to Kahr's focus on quality to actually run enough rounds through it to see if any manufacturing issues were popped up. I was just used to seeing the one test round case in the package of my Springfield’s and a shiny barrel. Not intending to cast dispersions on Bud's or Kahr, I'm sure they will both receive more of my money in the future.

I wasn't also referring to anything you said. so take no fault with my comments. I have never boughtfrom Buds, but have read so much about them on these forums, that they move a shi-load amount of guns. Good business just don't do that stuff PERIOD. Now I would not put it past kahr to send out a dirty ass gun, personally for me if they put a note in there and told me they fired the gun 200 rounds It would please me to no end also. These guns are not time peaces, they are made to shoot and made to shoot alot. Would you rather have a gun that has had only one test round shot through it or one that has had a 100?? I know what I would want. These gun companies arenot going to throughtly clean these guns before shipping either. My opinion is if you get one that looks like it has never been shot. IT PROABABLY HAS NOT BEEN SHOT. Time is money for these companies ..

Not me, agreeing is boring, you guys are crazy ninnys. 9's are for little girls and left handed people are handicapped. Wait I'm not left handed, I must be ok? Rice bikes rule. Harleys are for geezers.

Lets see what else. No more boring thursday afternoon here by golly.

Flame suit, check
Flak Jacket, check
Paper sack disguise, check

Check the serial number on it and call Kahr for an born on date. That will tell you right away. Buds is a volume shop, so it would not have been on their shelf very long at all.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to Kahr. If your used to shooting a PF-9 then just wait till you feel the pleasure of shooting a 9mm Kahr. I have the CW9 that is very similar to your P9 they are great shooting guns.

Welcome to the asylum. Now the wife's CW45 came just as nasty, but cleaned right up. Worry not, just shoot it plenty, shoot it more, rinse and repeat.
