So if you had a CW45 that has not skipped a beat since day one (think generation 2 Glock reliability) but have secretly lusted for this gun ever since your wife gave you a Combat Handguns magazine featuring this gun for your birthday last year. What would you do?

I can send my CW45 to Robar for a carry melt, blackout, and night sight package or I could go all in and let them work their magic on a new P45. Money really isn't an issue. Reliability is my primary concern.

Now I'm torn too. Tell me what you really want to hear and we'll go from there. Is there a picture there that's not showing up?

Why wouldn't a new P45 be a reliable as the CW45? It's not like a lottery where one wins but everybody else looses. It's more like a new Lexus or BMW where most are terrific but one slips through now and then. And, for those that do slip through, like Lexus or BMW, you get excellent service and they are made right. Here, we are like the service center that sees the few needed help while most are invisible to us. I say get the gun you want, boldly and without hesitation!

The picture sold me. I say order up a P45 and make it look like that. Shoot it alot, bond well, confirm its a good match for ya then have at it. Keep the CW to hold ya over while the other is getting the makeover.

Ljutic, why would not have Robar work your rock solid CW45?
You know its shooter, you are comfortable with it....Now, go take it too the next level.....
I might be a little jaded about new Kahrs at the moment, since I gave up a perfectly functional K9(and P9) for a complete piece of crap PM45

Bingo Jocko. I remember you telling us about your experience with Keltec and parts swapping when returned for service.

when I was a kel tec fanboi on that forum for quite a few years, i OWNED 3 OF THEM. I sent one to APWCOGAN and had them redue the slide in a titanium finish and port the slide and barrell Man it looked cool. cost me about $175 for the mods. 100 rounds after I got it back the recoil springs flew out the front of the slide. KT replaced everything with a new slide in standard factory finish, but IO had to buy the new bsarrel. lesson leanred. : to me was don't screw with exdpenhsive mods on a cheap made gun, expensive modes cannot make the gun more durable.

Now your kahr at Robar, would be a different story. You have quality there. I would be very very sure the gun is totally reliable before dong it. which to me would be 500+ rounds, and then what the hell it is only money, GO FOR IT. . Course I wouldhave to Magna port it also and then let them do it all.

I'm not 100% on all the Robar changes either. I'd swap black Roguard for the silver NP3+ external parts. I could also live without the etchings on the top of the slide. I also wouldn't bother with their added beaver tail. Jury is still out on their stipple job. The stock grip + Hogue handall Jr. feels really good to me on the CW45.

I missed that ljutic. I would definitely not want that bevertail on my kahrs, not needs, to me on some way way over exagerrated to. That top stuff they put on , THEY WILL LEAVE off, They will 20 lines per inch do a mill job right down the top of the slide, really looks cool. I think I would go with the 20 LPi. Jury is in on grip stippling for me anyways. I love it, feels good, done right looks good, their woirk is hard to knock. I would opt for the Robar black slide finish for sure over the silver..

Yeah, I know you said cost is not an issue, but for what you are likely to spend with Robar (who does nice work and is just a couple of hours up the road from me) and the new Kahr couldn't you purchase an Ed Brown Kobra Carry LW (Light Weight frame)?

Of course, if you already have a Kobra Carry LW, go for the reworked Kahr. :D

If money were no object, I'd get the P45, put about 500 rounds through it, and then send it in for the work.

I'll put my two in like this: Is there ever a bad reason to buy a new gun? Take the CW and make it custom to your hearts content, or just for shits and giggles get another one, or even a P45 to make the BBQ gun. Bottom line, it's your stuff, your money, and you have to be the one to live with whatever you decide.

I am proof of the puddin, for what I paid cylinder and slide for their work in my cusotm PM9, I now know 50% owqas totally wasted money, BUT I didn't at the time know what I know now, so I am posting from expereience to. You will loose 98% of every dime you put in a gun for custom work, but if ur gonna shoot it like u stole it and want to do it and intend to keep it then cost is secondary. Its waht I wanted at the time, looking back, I would have done somthings myself as I gained knowledge from this fourm and others. C & W work is like Robar, their reputation speaks for itself, but I did piss away some fine bucks. I think I paid them 50 bucks to counter bore the barrel 11 degrees, just because I read that somewhere. Shoots exactly the same in my hands as it did before I did all that stuff, But it looks cook, it is functional but I could have bought a PM( Black rose for what I paid C & S. So go slowly when making out your "to get done list". Make it out and then go back as reexamine each item you want done and if you can justify it. If you want a looker, Robar can make that kahr walk the walk and talk the talk..

Been there and done that recently with this little gem. It was supposed to be the be-all and end-all .45 CC pistol for me. Due to my recent run of fantastically bad luck with new guns, it's not working for me and will probably end up going back to STI for a re-do. STI is rock solid and they will make it right, but it should have been right from the git-go.

Well, I decided to take the plunge and found a P45 available just up the road from Robar. After consulting with Bill at Robar, my dreams of an all black were crushed since they can't Roguard many of the parts and they would end up with a less durable black oxide coating.

I ended up ordering one exactly like the picture above. I was going to drop a few enhancements, but with the discounted package price I would have ended up with less stuff for the same price as the total package.

No idea when it will be done, but I'm anxious already.
