Hello Im new member here and wanted to know if anyones else is around central florida. Im wanting to hear some experiences on the gun ranges in the area. I read a lot of mixed reviews about them. I used to live on 6 acres of land and shoot guns all the time but now I live in the city and never been to a range. Kinda new to me to have to pay to shoot or someone looking over my shoulder while I shoot.

Deeply embedded in the Florida swampland here. South, not central - however - I get up the Sebastian area regularly. Hit Deland at least once a year, Daytona once, Leesburg once, Sebring a few times, Okechobee lots.

try it for yourself first... the staff there isn't the best i've dealt with before but they are alright! Which one are you closest too? I am pretty sure there are a few over there!

Lots of fun stuff like machine gun shoots multiple times a year. The fourth of july one was awesome.

I'm in central Fl (Mt. Dora). I frequent the Shoot Strait in Apopka which is pretty nice. The staff has a lot of young men who don't always know as much as they think but over all it is a decent place to shoot. The Casselberry store had a murder/suicide on it's range a few years ago with
guns they had rented. They stopped renting firearms at that time but may have resumed doing so by now. I have found gun prices somewhat high but they will negotiate if you talk to the right person.
BTW, Larry the Cable Guy has not lived in Sanford for some time. He now lives in Nebraska on his ranch.

Gateway rifle/pistol in Jax was the best of the 4 clubs I belonged to when in Florida.
Lots of different type of matches if that's your thing and a plinker's paradise, for members.
At the time, they even had plinking matches, shooting a soda cans.

It's hit or miss at some matches though, based on the match director.
I gave up on some, as the match directors had a habit of being late, unprepared, or both.
It just seemed to be wasting my time but I'm not a laid back as some southerners, and standing around BSing is not shooting!

For plinking, I had a truck full of steel targets and once you claimed a bay you owned it until you left...lots of fun.
The public can shoot there for an hourly fee, but only at the 7/10/15 yard pistol range...paper only.
Quite a hike from Casselberry, but the others are not worth mentioning.

Live in the Destin / Ft Walton beach area in an unincorporated town on the water. Spoke to the local Sheriff and asked about shooting over water (e.g. off my dock). He had no problem if the neighbors did not have an issue. Spoke to the neighbors and everyone wanted to come shoot targets.

The Sheriff said over water Fish and Wildlife Service had juristiction so check with them. Called and told not to fire at wildlife, pick up any targets and ammo casings, and have a great day.

Recently spoke to a Sheriff to make sure I was up to date and he noted a local hangout called Crab Island (near the Destin Bridge) where a boat tailgate party continues throughout the summer always has calls about guys with shotguns.

It is legal to "Duck Hunt" next to a hundred plus group of boats if you are firing away from the boats (hunting in waders or off a boat). Sheriff said they just come by and check nobody is "endangering" a boat and have a nice day.

Very good to have a couple of 2nd Amendment supporting Sheriffs in Okaloosa and Walton Counties.
