View Full Version : Tale of Two PM9s

A very boring tale indeed.
After buying and breaking in a PM9 for my wife, I finally got my own.
Hers was a MA compliant version and it was very difficult to operate before break-in. We did the initial cleaning and hand racking before hitting the range. Regardless hers went through 100 WWB and a couple mags of Golden Saber +P without a problem.
Mine was much looser out of the box and I didn't bother with doing the recommended pre-flight. I did the break-in with 100 Remington UMC and couple mags of the Golden Saber. Again, flawless.
My non-complaint is noticeably easier to rack even after both have been somewhat broken in.
Thanks to some shooting tips received from some of you, I was on the paper with a few mags mostly in the black from 25'. Big improvement, but still a long way to go.
The only other thing I would note is the the Remington UMC seemed to leave the gun much cleaner than the Winchester White Box. Oh, and the UMC had a lot more muzzle flash.
Thanks for the tips on getting a good site picture. I think I now need to work on grip, trigger pull and stance.
The PM9 is a great little gun. My wife and I have both had people come over and comment that there was a lot of noise coming out of that little gun. Love it.

That used to happen to me... then I stopped shooting in the living room.:D
Oh seriously, short barrels do bark some. Glad its workin great for yas

I had a gun business in my fathers goodyear tire business and one day a gun customer camein looking and chatting, and ask for the restroom. I directed him. in a fewminutes I heard this BOOM and I thought WTf, raced to the restroom and the door had a hole in it. The fella came out holding his J frame and had no explanation as to why he did what he did,. I soldt he business 13 years ago and whenI goin there that same door is there with the hole in it. Hope no one thinks it is a peep hole.

Simple fix for 38 caliper hole in wood door.
Coat #2 pencil with carpenter glue like Elmers.
Insert pencil in hole thru both sides if hollow core. (perfect fit) If any one ask what your doing, tell them your CSI and your looking for trajectory.
Allow glue to try completely with plenty of pencil sticking out both sides.
When dry, take hammer, wrench or big ass rock and break ends of pencil off.
Sand lightly and paint to match if preferred.

You might consider Magna Porting your wifes version of the PM9. I don't think they really need it but it does make for an even softer shooter.
Also indicates to the wife that you care and are thinking about her which puts a few more cards from the deck in your hand for future reference.
Looks pretty cool too. I can't believe Jocko didn't beat me to this. I'm gonna start calling him Mr. Magna Port.

Bawanna - My wife's only other experience is with a Sig 229 in 40 S&W. With this being her frame of reference she thinks the PM9 is quiet and soft. Her biggest concern with handguns is the noise and I think I read from you or Jocko that porting makes it louder.
I would love to try ported and not side by side.
Either way, until my shooting ability catches up to hers I cannot give her any advantages. ;)

How do you know?
I asked for this didn't I?
In my youth in my first purchased house so not complete youth I had a cat. Not sure why I had a cat, but it was a one man cat that would let me hold it and pet it and anyone else who tried would get clawed till they bled out but thats a side note.
I decided to install a cat door in my back door so the cat could come and go as he pleased. Good idea at the time, save wear and tear on the litter box.
I came home from work the following day after the cat door install and saw now less than 5 cats, none of which were mine on the back of my couch by the front window. Hmm a cat house?
Anyhow I ran them all out, they left willingly and very quickly.
A few nights later in the wee hours of the morning I was awoken to the biggest and loudest cat fight I've ever witnessed in the kitchen right near said cat door.
I was quite unhappy about this and engaged said cat fight with Colt Cobra 38 in hand. I encountered no less than 9 felines with hair standing on end trying to pronounce Piss but apparently with a speech impediment so it sounded like the typical hiss.
Determining that my imediate life was not endangered I engaged anyway to close down the cat house. I fired 4 rounds (as I recall, might have been 5 out of the 6) before all the felines were out of sight. I was shooting as they exited the cat door. Even in my youth for some reason I thought that was wise to eliminate the mess on the linoleum floor.
Anyhow I opened said door with flashlight and freshly reloaded Cobra in hand to find nothing dead?
The next day I did just like CSI and ran string just like they do to find impact points and trajectory. I determined that I was shooting where I anticipated the cat to be had he ran straight but in further studies I determined that a cat will never go thru the door and straight away but will turn either direction and stay close to the wall, apparently due to some unknown feline military tactical training. So I shot over all of them.
Hence we arrive at the 3 or 4 holes in my back door. One shot went thru the plastic like flap material and basically self healed. Not having any dowel which incidently would work well also, and perhaps be more ecologically better since there's no lead for the kids to lick on your back door I found that a pencil was a perfect 38 caliber fit.
A little glue, sandpaper and I still had matching paint from having recently painting the house and all was like new.
Incidently I never once had any extra cats in the house following this incident. Apparently a message went over the feline hotline not to mess with my house as the owner was a lunatic with a loud noise machine.
So now you know how I know.

I like cats. You have to earn their respect, and appears you did just that.
I guess they didn't have RFID pet doors back in the day.

D-a-y-am-m-m MR Bawanna, Sir! I'll remember that if you pull your trusty 38 when I'm visiting. I promise I'll just head for the door quietly, no shooting please sir!

If your wife is accustomed to shooting 40 the 9 will be a walk in the park and a pleasant experience with or without the porting.
I didn't notice much difference in noise after porting my K40 course hearing isn't my strong suit and I'm probably not a good guy to do the comparison.

He pulls his 38 and I will be running for the door, staying low and following the walls.

Bawanna - that is fantastic. I wonder if the same principal is true with flying squirrels or mice, whichever currently seems to be scurrying in my walls at night. Of course, if I put your experience to the test the pencils might help fix the holes, but they aren't going to do diddly for my marriage. To fix her I would more likely need a pen ... and the checkbook.

I got a whole nuther repair method for drywall. It's even easier than the pencil trick.
We had the creature moving in the wall deal a few years back. I wanted to apply my cat experience but of course the wife was opposed being less experienced although she was in the que to get hitched during the original cat episode.
Things aren't as simple as they used to be for sure.
Trouble with the in the wall thing is they die in there and you got that unpleasant aroma. She made me drill a hole and insert poison a particle at a time. Now I'll never know if it worked but she don't hear em no more and I dont smell nothing dead so I assume we're good.
I got the pen and a checkbook but not much capital to back it up.

I learn something new about my uncle everytime I'm on here. One of these day's you'll have to tell them the story about....o, I guess you probably don't want that to be public knowledge!

Yeah nephew there is that one story (true) that I'd like to keep pretty close to the vest. I almost told my cyber bride Melissa but I couldn't even get myself to do that.
It's a horror story for sure.
I'm fortunate that I've had very few gun in hand shots fired stories to tell. There is one other I'll save for a rainy day thats ok to share. I never did have occasion to shoot at anybody, cats not withstanding, a warning shot one time but thats about it.
