I have enough money put aside to put either a CTC laser grip on my new mk9 elite or wood grips and night sites. I dont know which one will make the most sense for carry.
But I have to decide so if I go the laser direction I can get the 50 dollar rebate.
I guess what I am really asking is any of you out there have any feelings on night sites versus laser sites. Any comments would be appreciated.

the rebate thing sounds super, Haven't read any negatives about the ct on kahrs. Most all shooter shoot better with the ct. Nice gun the MK elite, damn nice.

The laser gives you the ability to hit your target without using the sights, great for if you are in an awkard position where using the sights might put you in a bad guys line of sight. Crimson Trace has some videos that demonstrate this pretty well. You can see them at http://www.crimsontrace.com/Home/Videos/tabid/396/Default.aspx
I think they are great in certain circumstances, like maybe hiding behind a shelf and sticking out your pistol with the laser around the corner of a shelf or something and looking through a peephole and verifying the laser dot is on the target.
Night Sights are great in low light situations, and gives you the more familiar 3 dot system of sighting versus the dot the I system on Kahr sights. Personally I prefer the laser AND night sights, but If I had to choose one, it would be the laser. But it does run on batteries, and batteries will probably fail at the worst possible time. The 50 dollar rebate was enough to push me over the edge towards the laser. Plus there is a fun factor to it that hard to put a price on. It's also good for practicing point shooting where you don't use the sights, just point the gun towards the target and shoot. You can point your weapon at a target, then hit the laser button and see how close you would have been if you had shot. And that little dot bouncing around on a bad guys chest might make him reconsider is actions.
A minus is that at the range, it shows how steady or shaky you are, it's a little embarrasing to have that little dot jumping all over the target like you are nervous or something. The longer I shoot and as my arm is getting tired, I notice the dot jumping around more and more. That's no big deal to me, some people find it annoying. I do wish the Crimson Trace had another on/off switch on the unit somewhere so you could turn it completly off. I just put a patch of masking tape or something over the laser if I don't want to use it. I notice from the pictures posted that a lot of guys are using the laser. I hope that helps.

I vote night sites...

I'm a firm believer of the benefits of a laser for training and/or practice BUT I'm not certain about its having equal benefits for carry. My major concern is being in a situation in which the lighting is such that you can't immediately pick up the laser dot and as a result lose precious time in opening fire. I can of course think of many situations and lighting conditions in which the laser would be a big plus.

Be safe,
Bill K.

The laser is great for training and intimidating a bad guy but for shooting I just don't see the advantage. I have lasers on both my J frames. One has the Crimson Trace and the other a 642 Pro has beautiful wood grips and a frame mounted laser.

They are very hard to see during daylight and are actually slower to bring on target. I say stick to the basics and go with some good tritium sights and the wood grips.

You can see my MK40 set up that way:

Just to clarify a point made earlier... the CT LG-461 has a On/Off switch if you choose to practice without the laser.

Which benefit do you value the most, an easier to see and acquire sight picture or accurate unaimed shots?

Perhaps taking advantage of the rebate now is prudent and starting a night sight fund and also add them at a later date.

I would go with some XS Big Dots and the grips.

I had a laser on a LCR and have night sights on a Glock. Nice toys; spend the money on ammo.

Vote for Night sights on the front and forget the Laser. When you count on it most is when it will fail you. just put a bright night sight on the front and you are good to go. I prefer to keep my carry guns very simple without safties and the like. Adding a laser might be a good idea to practice but I would never count on one for carry. Likewise with a light mount or carry a flashlight. I would rather carry a flashlight than have one mounted to my gun.

I don't care about sights, lights or lasers but beautiful wood grips just blow my dress up around my ears.
Actually I sometimes care about sights and I'm in the XS Big or standard dot camp on those.
I'm also in the keep it simple camp, no extra technology on my carry guns. I do love the CTs for practice.

I took it all in and decided KISS was the way to go. I am going to get some good nite sites and order the wooden grips. I want to thank you all for the feedback, I just couldnt argue out keeping it simple for a carry gun. The XS sights looks like a solution. Thanks to all.
