PM9 Report

I am new guy to Kahr and this is my first post so I am interested in your thoughts. I bought a PM9 as a CCW and finally got to the range yesterday. 100 rounds of Winchester white box through the pistol without a flaw. No FTF or FTE, just smooth as cow slobber. I was worried after reading all the reports of failures but luckily everything was fine. Still working on the best holster and position to carry it after the break in is complete. I am a big guy, 6’3” and 230lbs and the 4:00 position seems to work best.
One thing I did notice is I am shooting low. I am sure it is me and not the pistol. I must be anticipating the recoil and dipping the barrel. Any suggestions on solving this problem

First, welcome to Kahrtalk!

100 rounds without issue, you're off to a good start.

With a trigger like the Kahrs have I think you'll find dry fire practice particularly useful. I would use snap caps just to be on the safe side. If the gun is for SD or HD and not just the range I would not do a lot of practice where the trigger is staged, practice the trigger pull you'd likely do in a SD situation.

You can do like Bill suggested at the range also and have someone else load your magazines. Insert a few snap caps. It'll tell your straight away if your anticipating.

Shooting low and usually a little left for right handers is very common for new Kahr shooters. Dry fire and more practice at the range will help you cure it.

I'd stick with relatively short sessions. 50-100 rounds. Fatigue can really mess with you and the gun and frustration will only complicate the issue rather than help.

I agree with BillK

I shoot the Kahrs much better when I do not try to stage the trigger.

I find that a steady pull straight back until it goes bang gives me the best results on the range.

I have tried staging and also tried pulling very slowly neither worked for me.

but I am on here every day and I just don't read all these reports of failure. there is no luck that your gun worked perfect, it is supposed to do that and 99% do indeed do that. Many "failures" one reads here are also shooter failures and not gun failures. A shooter has to mate up with his gun to be a good working combo. Limp a gun, it fails, not the guns fault. jerk the trigger, miss the target, not the guns fault. You proved to yourself what an excellent gun yours is out of the box. . Shootng low and left, would make a right hander, so normal iwth kahrs loooong but smoothe trigger system. Ur new to kahr, takes some rounds down range to get the hang of it. Don't expect to shoot it like a single action. This gun is a close up personal gun that will save your life but for me if one expects to hit beer cans at 20 yards, best get another gun
Get a half dozen snap caps and throw them in with 30 rounds and let your friend load your magazine so u don't know what is what. That wioll show you big time what your doing wrong/right.. Sight picture plays a big part with many, some use 12 oclock hold, some 6 oclock. both will pattern differently.

If your shots grouped low and left and you're a right handed shooter, according to the shot chart you're "jerking or slapping the trigger". If low and to the left assuming again that you're a right handed shooter then you were tightening your fingers on the grip during the shot.

lose 30# kand your shot groupls will move upward and to the right. at least thats what my doctor told me

I also shot low left when I first shot my friend's PM9. But I kept at it and learned to do the steady pull and not jerk the trigger. Now I can hit a 10" paper plate at 25 yards...with the PM40 I bought after learning to shoot the Kahr trigger. The only other guns I had shot prior to the PM9 were DA/SA SIG's with very light single action triggers. Very different. Just be glad the PM9 trigger is sooo smooth. Long travel you can learn to deal with. Rough triggers are more difficult to deal with.

Steady pull on the trigger not worrying when the gun will go off and continue following through after discharge. (advice from this forum that I took to heart with success)

+10 on that Joe L. show me a smoother trigger system than a kahr and I bet it is just another kahr.

Update: I went to the indoor range last night. It has not stopped raining here for 6 weeks and everything is a mess. Took my youngest daughter with me, she is a cop, God bless her. Anyway I had her load some snap caps in the magazines and that told the story. After 30 rounds I was constantly grouping 6” at 35 feet. Of course she gave me some pointers as I need all the help I can get. Not great but a whole lot better that the first 100 rounds. I now have 275 rounds through my PM9 and only one FTF.
As a side note she shot 5 magazines with my Kahr and now she wants one for Christmas. She carries a Glock 26 as her off duty weapon but now loves the Kahr. Sorry Glock fans.
