Hi I'm a first time member, so please be kind. I just bought a CW9 and have run through the break in period with it. Needless to say, it was quite a surprise.
My first Kahr was a K40 that was a brutal S.O.B. It didn't matter how I fired it, the web of my hand ALWAYS bled. Add to that the fact that sometimes it would malfunction on me (probably due in no small part to limp wristing the gun to try and protect my hand). Anyway, I converted it to a 9mm K9 and gave it to my daughter. This first experience with Kahr left me a bit shaken. The gun was far from reliable and made my hand bleed due in no small part to it's vicious recoil. I loved the grip of the gun and the over all feel of it, but felt it couldn't be trusted. Mind you, I'm not that recoil sensative. I own a S&W 340 CT and have fired full power .357 magnum loads out of it. While four shots did make my hand bleed, that was to be expected from a gun that fires full power .357 ammo that weighs 13 ounces.
My new CW9 however is a blessing. Not only is it almost as light as the 340CT, but it holds more ammo as well. Add to that the speed of a quick reload and it's over all slim feel and you start to see why I like it so much. When I first bought it, I felt that a gun that was lighter than my K40 was really going to hurt the old hand. Nothing could be further from the truth. Not only did it not make the web of my hand bleed, but there was no stinging sensation that I get from firing my 340 with +Ps or 386 with 125 grain magnums. Nothing but nice smooth controlability.
I started out with some 100 or so 124 grain Geco loads. The gun failed to go into battery a few times, but other than that all was well. No FTF, FTEs or anything else. Before the 100 rounds were done, it had stopped not going into battery. Next up was some old Remington 88 grain JHPs. WOW, this stuff was hot, but still no stinging sensation in my hand. After 25 rounds or so, I switched to PMC Starfires in 124 grain. About the same as the Geco ammo as far as recoil was concerned. Next up were some Hornady 125 grain XTP reloads. These were a little spicy as the original load (7.9 grains of Blue Dot) was for a 124 grain bullet. Still nothing I couldn't handle. Then came the Mother Of All Loads. The very same reloads that my Glock choked on. A 124 grain Golden Saber loaded with exactly the same 7.9 grains of Blue Dot as the Hornady loads. The CW9 digested them easily.
Now for the acid test, my perfered carry loads. Winchester's 127 grain +P+ Ranger T loads. Now I know Kahrs aren't rated for +P+ loads, but felt that shooting a few of them might be a good idea if I was going to carry them as a self defense load. To my surprise the gun handled them easily, much more so than the 88 grain Remington loads.
All the while accuracy were fist sized groups with all of the ammo tested. I never aimed at the same spot on the target so my groups looked like they are all over the place, but trust me it groups a little high at 21 feet, but nicely.
Now I have a question. Where does one find a good holster for this gun? I've looked all over (including Kahr's shop) but everyone seems to be out of them. I'm looking for a black, open top outside the waist, leather holster for it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
