View Full Version : P45: Chamfer at bottom of breach face

I had read on this forum somewhere, that there should be a small chamfer on the lower leading edge of the breach face. When I insert a magazine, the rim of the top cartridge hits the bottom of the breach face and pops the top round forward. Now, I have never had a malfunction with this P45, not even during break in, but I believe that this chamfer should be present.

I called Kahr service and spoke to Jay, and it became clear to me that Jay should not be doing customer service. He did not listed to what I said, and apparently knows nothing about his companies product.

So is this chamfer suppose to be there or not? And should I just call back and try to speak to someone else?

I know some have just done the mod themselves, but I am uncomfortable doing that.

This is a link to the infamous GB Gregs marvelous thread dealing with many issues we've experienced here.

Some need the bevel (chamfer) and some don't. Some need it very badly.
The one pictured in GB's thread on page one but down a few post needed it.

Mine didn't have it and it works fine. Yours apparently works but if it's hitting it could benefit from having it.

It's really quite simple to do with a hand file. Just a few strokes using the picture to see the angle which isn't critical. Your basically just creating a ramp for the rear of the case to deflect to the front.

If you do end up sending it I'd ask first but you might be able to just send the slide alone although if it was on my bench I'd want the whole gun to make sure I put enough bevel on it.

Here's the start of my experience with the lack of the "bevel":

http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1464&highlight=bevel&page=2

and GB6491 further expounds on this at post #19 on the same posting page.

Anyone can do this with a file or stone. The angle is not critical and check the photos. The bevel doesn't shove the cartridge forward, but moves the top of the magazine forward a bit so that the breechface/lower leading edge of the slide can get behind the top cartridge to act as the stripper... instead of resting ON TOP of the cartridge rim. The .45's are more prone to this problem. The nines seem to have plenty of room behind the top cartridge in the magazine.
Filing or stoning and then a bit of polishing will fix this problem... just be careful when performing the "fix".
