View Full Version : Dry Firing
New to Kahr wondering about Dry-Firing... is it acceptable to Dry Fire CW9 or are snap caps required? I own Glocks whick don't require any. Can I assume all striker fired handguns can be dry fired? All feedback welcomed.

Dry fire away. Won't hurt a thing. When it comes to all striker fired weapons I would guess your correct but would never assume anything in that broad a spectrum. Your ok with your Kahr though.
Thanks, wanted to be sure. My CW9 just arrived. Now a 2 week wait before paperwork clears for pick-up .... "Thats the way things are here in the "Peoples Republic of NY." Lots of anti-gunners

I hate waiting. That's awful.
I've dry fired mine more than live fired it. Sigh... if they replace my frame, I'm gonna have to do the break in all over again.
Well, maybe that will be FUN! It was the first time

Actually, Glock now recommends that snap caps be used for repeated dry-firing of their pistols. Dry-firing to remove the slide is not an issue; just the frequent & repeated dry-firings are what they are concerned about.

Yeah, I saw that on one of the Glock Talk boards. I also just had to have a broken striker replaced on my P380 from dry firing. From now on I'm always going to use snap caps while dry firing.

There isn't a firearm made where using a snap cap isn't easier on the firing pin/striker/breech face in the long, or in some cases, short run.

Snap caps are cheap enough to me that it's worth using them every time. If you have reloading equipment or a friend with a press. You can just make your own, out of spent casings and erasers. Doesn't take much time and it's a good way to get a huge stockpile.
Even if you have to buy your snap caps the practice you get in one evening is more than the cost.

If you do get snapcaps (and you should!) get AZoom snapcaps. They're made out of metal and the "primer" lasts for about ever before it goes bad.
Midway has 'em for 15 bucks for a pack of 5. They work great also for cycling rounds through your pistol-safely!
