View Full Version : Possibly a PM45 magazine insertion issue? (Kind of photo heavy...)

Recently, I was loading a magazine into my PM45 (slide was locked back) and the mag stopped:

I had to push the mag, firmly, to engage the mag release, and the first round in the mag was actually under the breechface of the slide that engages the round into battery:

I had to use my thumb and forefinger on the base of the mag, kind of twisting it:

The mag position then was this:

After the mag was moved, the top round was in the correct position:

I am concerned that it will happen if I need to reload after my first mag is empty...

Any thoughts or ideas about this? Any similar episodes by anyone else?

Thanks! Bill

Take off the slide - look under the very tip of the bottom of the breechface. There should be a tiny 45 degree bevel there that pushes the top round forward just a little, and lets it clear the slide.

The reason the mag release was hard - the extra spring pressure from having the top round forced down.

The fix - is that bevel - which appears to be standard on all newer PM45's

Do you happen to have a photo of the bevel?

I will take the slide off tonight and take a look...

If there is no bevel on my slide, then what is the next step?

Thanks CJB, you are fast!

I'd put my own there, but thats me. If you're not into that, or dont have good confidence in your ability, Kahr should fix it up easily and free

BTW, excellent photos.

Thanks for the comments on the photos!

I am really warming up to being here more often and tried to really 'paint the picture' for my problem.

Again, information shared and I learned alot in about 30 minutes!

Makes me want a pizza! :D

I took my slide off, and here is a looksee at the bottom of the breechface.

I don't see a chamfer...:photo:

Does anyone know at about what serial number the chamfer was added? My SN is SV2202.

I did send an email to a Mr. Art Moore at Kahr to ask about what to do...

Bill,
It looks like you have a small bevel, or at least the start of one, there.

I imagine it will need to be lengthened as shown in the link I posted above.

I slightly changed the angle that the slide is beveled to where the rim of the round contacts it.
In the photo below, I stoned the bevel so that the tailing edge of it is moved further rearward (red arrow). I did not change the starting point of the bevel (green line).http://i46.tinypic.com/6nvam9.jpg

nice photos greg, very odd that the 45 are indicative of this mod only. U wouldthink hahr would have figured this out by seeing what is posted on this forum to, but I guess that makes sense so it isnot being done.

I will post some pics after I add the chamfer.

Hopefully, I will get it tonight, my wife is due in less than 2 weeks with our 4th child... :cheer2:

Probably can't take it with me to the hospital!!

Thanks for all of the info to date!!

I took a fine file and make a gentle chamfer at about 45 degrees. Problem solved, mags load like BUTTER!!!
