View Full Version : New PM45
Good Morning, I just picked up a PM45 at the west palm gun show on Saturday. I have yet to fire it, but I have done tear-down and cleaning. Is there anything i should know before break-in?
also what the thoughts on the Hornady Critical Defense 185 GR being used after 200 break in of FMJ.

Congrats on your new PM. Check the ammo sub forum for some great advice about various loads in Kahr pistols. I believe there will be a post or two about Hornady CD ammo and a caution to steer clear because some have hard primers. If you must use CD, buy a box or two and test it in your pistol before buying a bunch of it. I use Hornady 200 grain +P TAP in my CW45 and it works well, but all guns can be different. It's important to test in your specific pistol.
Another question i had was on my Sig they had me put a Teflon lube on slide compared to regular oil. What are the thoughts on lube vs oil? FYI i will be polishing feed ramp and possibly slide as well.

Personally, I have never done any polishing or additional prepping to any Kahr that I have owned. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't, but I would go easy on the prep until you actually have a chance to run a few hundred rounds through the gun. Kahrs are premium pistols and should work well as the come from the factory.
I keep mine clean and lubricated. I really don't think it matters if your lube is oil or grease as long as it is applied sparingly and your gun functions well with your choices. If you own the teflon lube, then try that first before switching over to an oil lube.

Listen to Ljutic, he speaketh the truth. They seem to be doing more and better polishing and fine tuning at the factory so you may not need to so anything. No need to fix that which is not broken.
The prep and cleaning is still sound advise.
He's also on the mark lube, everyone has their pet forumula but if you keep the parts that rub together lubed she'll run for ya.
I use oil everywhere with a line of grease on the slide rails and call it a day. They all work, some last longer than others.
West Palm! Welcome neighbor!
Best of luck with the PM45, I'll soon be in the market for another! (to compliment the one I have already)

Yesterday i went to Shoot Straight in West Palm Beach for the breakin on my new PM45. 200 rounds PMC FMJ. 1st let me start out by saying after i bought it i did a complete teardown and cleaning. So that being said yesterday was awesome 200 rounds ZERO FTE's 1 FTL and i can probably contribute that to not a firm grip. for a short barrell i was impressed with the accuracy. after 200 hands/wrist didnt hurt at all last couple clip i ran 1 handed. My accuracy went to crap but wanted to see how it handled. I found the recoil to not be bad at all. I feel extremely comfortable with it.
i walked in my front door and told the wife this one isnt going anywhere its a keeper.
As for post fire cleaning extremely easy and was very suprised on how clean it was in the firing pin section. My Sig used to build up brass shavings in that part pretty bad.
no extra polishing needed and only change i will probably make is some night sights.

Good for you Sabo, glad it went well.
Mine had to return to the mothership and took about 350 rounds to be 100%, but now she's good to go.
It's a wonderful piece, ain't it? Well worth the effort, at least in my book.
It isn't my only .45, and it's not even my smallest .45. But it's a keeper. Very nice to carry around the house. If I feel the need for more the Glock 30 is always handy.

Hot dang! I gotta go up that way (to their store) in July. I planned on buying something then.
CJB they are cheaper at the West Palm gun show than at there store. This is my second pistol from them and i am very happy......
Anyone have a recommendation on a IWB holster?
Thanks for the heads up on THAT... maybe I can catch them at another gun show
