I bought a CW40 used a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday, I finally had a chance to get it to the range. I kept having problems with the mag dropping between rounds. Of course, if the mag drops it wouldn't feed the next round or lock the slide back after the final round. At first, I thought that I might be accidentally hitting the mag release, but I wasn't. Ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

The pistol was accurate and I was easily able to see the sights.

You can remove the slide, remove the follower and spring from the magazine, replace the base plate, and then insert the magazine slowly and see how the magazine catch engages the magazine's slot.

You may need a new magazine catch and or spring.

The magazine catch is $12 and the spring is 6.60, plus $5 shipping comes to about $24, if that's the problem and if you have to pay for the parts.

At least, that's where I would start. Good luck.

shootr it left handed to see if it drops, if it doeksn't that is an indication your thumb might be engaging that mag button and u don't know it. if it still drops give kahr a call and ask for eion or jay ande state what ishappening and I would be they will senbd u a new magazine releasebutton no charge, normally those springs never wear out as it is a rod spring and not a compression type3 sri ng, but ask for both just in case..

u issue is fixable one way or the other.. also once the magaziner is in the gun see if u can physically pull it out of the gun, if so, u have a bad magazine catch, if not look closely at your hand position.

After the first mag, I was being real careful to not touch the mag release. It seemed to help some if I really slammed the mag home. I called Kahr, they are sending me a mag catch spring gratis. I found threads with sililar symptoms on other forums. I will replace the spring, if that doesn't get it, I will order a catch.
