Been awhile since I've posted, so its time to do an update. Working on customizing my CW45 with some additions. So far I've removed the back serrations with a dremmel and polished it up real smooth. It dosent look great, but it FEELS great. I left the checkering in the front for assured grip when unholstering. Personally, I agreed with some notions that the checkering was uncomfortable when shooting. Before you comment that I could have just added a grippy doo-dad this weeks handy thing, Im going to install the A-Grip over top of my smoothing job.

Night sights! Kudos and pluses to Greg for sharing information and resources! I'll be installing the night sights on her. The front polymer sight, IMHO, sucks (or blows, depending on the weather there). I liked the dot-the-I combat sights, but I prefer a 3 dot set up. My S&W 6906 has novaks (non-tritium) and I find them to work for me the best.

Last but not least, I'm waiting on some Hornaday 185gr. XTP JHP's to appear magically on the front step via the brown guy.

Dont ask for pictures of the smooth job. Its ugly. Unless you REAAAAAAALLLLLYYYYY wanna see, in which case I will oblige.

if ur work is as ugly as Oprah, then indeed don't post it, if not post a photo. beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, that is what Bawanna told me when he made me a pair of Pink GRIPS FOR MY j FRAME SMITH.:banplease::banplease:

Tossed in a couple spydercos I got too. A Manix 2 and a stretch! Awesome blades!

Also the new maglight led with 3 function button switch. just got it today at wally world (who had no ammo on sale nor guns here in marysville)

Heck that ain't ugly. I kind of like it. Be nice to have a good grip without having to wrap anything around it.

I'd probably leave it as is myself.

Everyone else that has tried it here things its a vast improvement and that it should stay as is. I like the smooth back strap but the aggressive front.

I've heard nothing but good things about these guys. I've never had one done by them but several that have used them love posting pictures of the work. The link below will take you to their price list.

http://http://www.ccrrefinishing.com/hg.htm (http://www.ccrrefinishing.com/hg.htm)+1 on CCR. As Ljutic said, I too have heard only good things about them. Occasionally they will offer sales, so you might want to inquire if you decide to contact them.

I've found the bead blasted finish on the stainless steel slide pretty durable and easy to touch up, but as you want to try something else you might consider one of Robar's finishes: http://www.robarguns.com/precision_coatings.htm

I got excited over the prices at CCR. I have a smith and wesson model 10-8 that I bought used and I would simply keel over to see it refinished!

How does it work sending your firearm to them? I've never done it before so please chime in! I called but no answer on the tellyphone.

DIY:
You can get firearm specific paints like Duracoat, Gunkote, Cerama-coat, Alumahyde, Teflon-Moly, Baking Lacquer, etc. in rattle cans:

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1150/Product/GUN_KOTE_trade__OVEN_CURE__GUN_FINISH

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1143/Product/AEROSOL_BAKING_LACQUER

Most of the above are available for air brush application and you can add Cerakote and Norells Moly-Resin to the mix:

If you are particularly adventuresome, Caswell offers some plating options:

It's probably best to contact CCR by email. Some outfits prefer it as phone calls cut into their production time.

Greg

CCR does answer the phone and they are super helpful. They may have started their long weekend early. I'm all set to send them one of mine, but I just have been too lazy to get it ready for shipping.

Unfortunately, shipping will be a big expense if you send them any serial numbered part as UPS and Fed Ex will only ship them next day air. If you have a local dealer that will send them out for you USPS that would be a better option.

UPS rules, not federal law, wrap the damngun in a big box and take it to the ups and just mail it, if they ask it is a broken high speed hole punch. they won't ask either unless u send a gun to a place like Ruger firearms, Karh firearms, Joes' firearms.

but that is also why most gun cojmpanies use a prefix instead. If u wanna pay $50 obide by UPS , if u wanna pay $10 bucks, just mail it. Or if u have a dealer, let him do it ashe can legally send through regular mail even. That next day air stuff is because they can track the gun or parcel so as that THEIR FOKKING EMPLOYEES DON'T STEAL THE DAMN PRODUCT. That is why they have that policy...Just my 2 cents.
