I bought a CW 40 and took it to the range last week. I had a problem with the mag dropping sometimes when I fired a round. I emailed Jay last week and he is sending a mag release spring. I had a chance to look at it closer today and noticed that the mag would drop whenever the mag release was just barely touched. I'm talking about 1/64". I have a PM 9 and checked it and you must depress the catch much hader to release it's mag.

I'm assumibg that the mag release is worn. Does anyone have any experience in replacing the assembly? If so, could you reply with simple instructions? I would appreciate any help. I'm assuming that you start by removing the spring? Does the assembly just slide out if the spring is released?.....Thanks

there is a tutorial on this forum somewhere, I am sure it will posted to u shortly. Yes remove the rod spring and the release just pushes out, should take u allof 5 minutes todo the process, slide off the gun look down see the rod, now figure it out and ur done. How old is the cw40?/ do u know if it has the polymer mag releease or the metal. polymer is old old style, metal is what replaced it, neither gave alot of issue but no douvbt that is what u have is a bad mag catch. with the magazine out of the gun look at the right side of the mag release. it shold be flusyh with the grip/frame. now with it in thegun, is it the samej? It shold be still flush. if it is, now try to actually pull the magazine out of the gun and see what happens.. If it will not come out, then IMO your thumb is hitting that release and u don't realize it. U need to eliminate the possables and if the gun is new then u have the metal mag release..

I think the CW series is very much like the glock. If you just get under that spring and pop it out of the notch the assembly slides out.
The spring is just a flat bar type spring and I can't imagine the spring going bad but perhaps so. It's easy to get the assembly out but as I recall a little more challenging to get the spring itself out. I'd look at the button and assemble to see if things look right.

Hopefully some CW owners will pop in here and confirm I got this right.

The latch appears to be polimer. The pistol is used, so I do not know the round count. Without the mag, it is flush on the right side. With the mag in, the catch protruded slightly on the right side. I am sure I wasn't hitting the mag release when I was shooting. The catch release only depresses about 1/64" before releasing. The recoil is sharp on this pistol. The release is so sensative that I'm confident recoil was shaking it loose. I will get a new slide catch and that should fix it. I assume the new one will be metal?
