How does this gun differ from a regular P9? Any help would be appreciated.

Ok in a nut shell the coverts look like this: P9 top end (slide, bbl, etc.), PM9 bottom end. This as you can figure makes for a shorter grip length, which in theory aids in concealment. The other thing this does is make the gun a bit more top heavy, and while on target and shooting would be ok, but when acquiring your target may make the pistol feel a little goofy. YMMV, but that is the basic mechanics of the beast.

I think the reason the covert never made it as a success was the advent of the PM9 and PM40. Those two models kinda put the coverts out of business. If you can find a factory covert, hold on to it. Many have taken a standard P9 and made it into a covert.

I think if memory serves me right that kahr even made the covert in the all steel version to, but again I think the MK9 and MK40 killed that steel covert's life expectancy to. That wold be a real dream gun to get ur hands on IMO.

What about the trigger

Ok, you of all people should know that answer. The trigger will be the Elite trigger with the 3/8" travel. To my knowledge, the K9 was the only one with the NY trigger, and that was only on the older ones as an option.

Yes to only the K9... No to being an option on old K9s. The longer pull was not the option, but rather the standard trigger until recently. On the older K9s you had to order the Elite model in order to get the short pull trigger.

Was a covert P9 ever produced by the factory, or is it only a "garage gunsmith option"?

pretty sure the P9 was a kahr factory covert I think they arrived around 2002. ur right about the early K9, they only came with the nypd trigger, the elite version was a special order. today there is no nypd k9's only eliete. nypd can be special ordered only. I thyink that came about finally when the nypd no longer put the K9 on thgier approved carry listing and that kahr I am told no longer has a kahr supprot armorers group inside the nypd anymore.. I have been told it was a political fall out more than a K9 product failure.. course that was from a kahr inside source to, so go figure!!
