CW9 covert jobs....

Been researching doing the "covert" job on my CW9 and I've decided that I am going to go ahead and do it myself. I bobtailed one of my 1911's before using nothing but a dremel and hand drill so I'm not scared of doing a little modding myself. ;)

However, looking back through the threads on here from people that have done it most of the pics are no longer hosted and not showing up. I'd like to see some good close pics of the backstrap/mag well/side of the grip where yall cut and finished it (the whole job really). So any of yall have a link to a good writeup on it?

Also, I have access to a local smith's milling machice so would that make it easier to make the first cut (I know to cut long and hand finish) or should I just stick with the dremel?

Just looking for as much info. as possible before I start cutting. Thanks :)

I haven't done one myself, but I imagine the place to start would be acquiring the six round magazine and a metal base plate (if desired). Then you can make some measurements to find a ball park figure for how much you'll need to remove. Cut off less than that amount (probably doesn't matter what you use to make the cut, just keep it square and leave enough material to fit by hand). Sand/file material away until the magazine locks in place. Check for fit often during the process. You'll also need to decide what angle, front to back (ie, similar to the angle prior to the cut or one that more closely matches the magazine base plate), you want the bottom of the magazine well to be and maintain that as you fit the mag. Once fit is achieved, do any cosmetic touch up desired (ie, round the edges).

One of the distributors took Commander frames and put Officers ACP slides on them, making long gripped (full size) Officer's ACP, and called it the "Commanding Officer's Model".

In this case, it might be a case of the Officiating Commanders Model since the roles are reversed.

Nice mod, maybe some room there to leave it squareback, or bob it a little...?

And, remember, the magazine sticks out from the bottom a bit - for a reason - reason being that Justin believes you need something to grab, should that magazine fail to self drop. Might be nice to leave that little bit of "space" on whatever you guillotine off.

Well, I cut it!
And I forgot to take pics along the way. :o It actually wasn't that bad once I make the first cut, after that just a little handfitting and about an hour later I was done. I still plan on filling the gap in the back later just ran outta time this morning. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but it should be just fine as I did hand cycle a couple mags through it and everything worked as it should. Playing with it and carrying it right now I really like the combination of the longer slide with the shorter grip. :cool:

looks like a kahr factory covert to me. nice job. I sometimes even wonder if the kahr covert polymer guns might not have started out as a full size and was actually cut down in house. Once set up, probably would take kahr 5 minutes--maybe. Might have beat the initial cost of making a complete covert polymer mold which would had to be very very expensive, for such few coverts that they ever made and sold.

Very nice, I just picked up my first CW9 for that sole purpose. Did you add a bevel to the magazine well? I was thinking it wouldn't be too hard to put one back.
