View Full Version : PM45 alternate base plates
Well folks.... here ya go.
The RUGER 45acp base plate fits the Kahr mags, no problems. You need to use the Ruger retainer, and it fits just perfecto. Spring tension is the same, as the base fits flush with the magazine tube bottom.
The SIG-SAUER 45acp "extended" base fits. This is the ones for the 8 shot 45acp magazines. You need to use the SIG base retainer, which allows the base to fit about 3/16 further from the magazine tube's bottom. That means magazine spring tension is going to be a tiny tiny bit less. Dunno if it will effect functioning, but you cant feel the difference.
AND......
The Sig-Sauer base allows 6 shots to be loaded quite easily, with some room to spare, in the PM45 5 shot tube.
Pictures later if anyone wants em......

Wow....is our quest for flush baseplates really this simple? I don't have my Kahr pistols yet as I just ordered them but I'm already looking for a way to have the flush baseplates. I ordered the CM9 and the CW45. Does what you posted apply to the CW45 also?
Why then all the research and trial and error with several different 1911 magazines as nicely reported in that huge thread on this topic?:confused:

Not flush. The PM45 magazine body does stick down below the frame of the pistol.
The Ruger base is... more of a finger hold than the Kahr, also has a metal retainer. I'd say, its just an alternate to the Kahr.
The Sig-Sauer one, sticks down not much further than the Kahr, but is made in a way that allows a little more room for things like the follower and spring, so with essentially no greater room, you've got one more round in the magazine. I think this will work, as the change in spring length is really very tiny, but have not tested (yet).
As soon as the PM45 comes back, thats gonna be one of the first things I try.
Here's the parts, but I'd not order because I've not tested it yet

This is what the base looks like, on the bottom of a (Sig Sauer) magazine:

It might need a little handwork to blend well with the PM45. Total cost of the parts is less than $15 (plus shippin')

BTW, if you don't mind...I'm back after almost a year.......what happened to your PM45 that it had to go back?
I think the frame rail in the front wasn't quite right from the get go. Should be on its way back to me in a day or so, may have for the weekend.

There's some pictures there.
If anybody has a P220 with an 8rd mag, and a PM45, I've love to see how it looks/fits on the gun.

Not a good picture, but reversed plates. Sig becomes a seven capacity, the Kahr becomes an eight capacity. There is a lot of plastic that can be trimmed down on the Sig baseplate up front. Interesting at least.

Yeah, good stuff bud, but you know we're looking for that totally flush thing like our friend gb6491 accomplished with his 1911 mags and was generous to share with us.
So true, but it may - may - be better than the 6 capacity Kahr alternative, as far as looks and feel go. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I just happen to have a Ruger P345, tonight when I have the tools out anyway (have work to do), I may just try that on my P45. Interesting to see how it works.

Your Ruger bottom plate looks a lot like the ones from Kahr that I modified

Still not the panacea of flushness.....think the modified officer mags are the way to go.
The PM45 mag will never be flush unless you cut it. But if it can stick out no further than it already does, and carry an extra round, thats a good thing, no?

Point well taken indeed.

This is my solution to the PM45 baseplate issue. I spent about 5 minutes with a dremel on a Beretta Nano baseplate. Here are the photos:

Did the Sig base plate and additional round of capacity function ok?
