I know this is a kahr forum but i was wonderin if anyone has any opinions on the smith and wesson 908. Just found one at a local gun store and filled out paper work. Its slightly used but looked almost brand new with no wear or scratches. 350 plus tax so i figurrd it was an average price. Also they seem a little hard to find especially in excellent condition.
So has anyone owned or shot this pistol? Not too many thi gs on the internet i could find about it. Is it a good gun? Just want some stuff to read to make waiting for the gun go by a little quicker! Thanks!

I have one. The 908 is similar to the CW Kahr line in that it is the economy grade of 39 series S&W. It is a nice size, compact pistol that has been very reliable. It isn't my most accurate firearm, but that could be due to the fact that I don't shoot it much. It is close in size to a P9 but thicker because of the bulbous safety levers.
This is a pistol I've never really been fond of, but I'm not sure that's due to any real faults in the gun. It just doesn't "sing" when it's in my hand. $350 is a fair price. These are quality guns that should give many years, generations even, of service. Pay attention to the lube on the alloy frame rails. Keep them wet, maybe use some grease. I use TW25b.

Exactly what Ripley said. It's to the Smith line what the CW is to the Kahr line. I had one years ago and it did everything you'd want it to do.
Perhaps in the same way as Ripley I moved on much like I did with my 4516. I got an LDA and then 1911's and found I didn't get along so well with the Smith any more.
In hind sight I wish I still had both but alas its water under the bridge.
Certainly nothing wrong with them and I don't think you'll have any buyer remorse.

I'm very fond of the older gen metal S&W's - I have a 457S and CS45 I bought new last year, and paid a good deal more. $350 is a fair price so I would go for it if you want a 9mm. Ripley is right about keeping it well lubed. I have SIGS, S&W's, and 1911's with alloy frames, and grease is a good idea where alloy meets steel.

I have it's sibling, the 3913, and like it a lot. The trigger is nothing to write home about, but it's very reliable. Here's an article that might be of interest:

FWIW:CDNN has some used magazines factory magazines for about $20 each (they are in very good shape).

You looking for only 9's or any interest in 40's or 45's? Are you local up here. Sorry if I already should know and forgot.
I seldom get up to Kesselrings but I'm in contact with them alot! I can put them on the lookout and let me know when they get one in.
I gotta get up there soon, I got some powder sitting on a desk thats been waiting for months for me to pick up.
The 3913 is actually a step up from the 908 isn't it? It has the more machined slide and refinements.

I think the 908 is 2nd gen and the 3913 is third.
Here are my two third gen S&W's.

Yes its a more refined version of 908 with a few medal parts as opposed to the 908 like sites mag release button and so on. Basically same gun though.
Bawanna- i live in anacortes ( about 45 min from Alger) so i am pretty close. Ya keep me posted i am also still looking for that pm45!

Been there many times. Put a big addition on both ends of the hospital rehab center 20 years ago or so. Funny, now I are one. Use to have one heck of a little ice cream shop just coming into town. Huge cones that were awesome. A real challenge to try and drive and eat. A real challenge to eat before it melted all over ya even not driving.
Use to go to Orcas frequently also, not so much anymore. Mom sold her property over there.
I understand the Holiday Market has a viable gun shop area now. Was a pretty cool convenience store way back when, now I guess it's alot bigger. My son's been there a few times. I've yet to visit it myself.
Your close to neighbors with jimbar, far apart neighbors but neighbors none the less.

Thats funny cuz holiday market is actually the place im getting the 908 from. I still think kesselrings is my favorite but holiday has a pretty good selection and they are always getting nice used stuff. Right now the have a nice used mk9 if u are interested, i already have one or else it would be mine right now!

I'd love to have a GC serial MK and a recent K to build handles on. The MK I borrow is way early and don't fit many, My K40 is apparently different too as I've sent a couple from it that didn't fit either.
Alot of money for a grip model.

Oh i forgot to ask.. How does that finish hold up from carrying it? Is it prone to rust or wear? If so, is there a way to get it refinished with something stronger to prevent that? I have never had to do anything like that before
