Two weeks ago I got frustrated waiting and looking at paying too much on GB.... I decided to drive form shop to shop in search of the elusive CM9. I was at my 5th store and had been out maybe into my 3rd hour with no joy on the CM9 when I meet up with a pistol I had not given much thought too, it was very interesting and felt odd but good at the same time in my hand. This pistol is small and thin(smaller than the PM/CM) but has slightly more heft. It came in a nice package, including a proprietary laser and belt holster but most importantly too me it was equipped with night sights from the factory....all for $599
I bought it ....I'm at about the 300round mark and I love this gun, it has been flawless operationally and a pleasure to shoot. Nice DAO trigger and surprisingly controllable. It also seems to keep getting better the more it breaks-in. Since its new on the market finding a ItW holster was a pita, but DeSantis now makes a Pro-Stealth for it and now its even more of a pleasure to carry.

Nice, thanks for posting the pics.
I cannot help but notice the great integration of the mag base/grip.
In another active CM9 thread with pics, the mag base/grip fitment looks like an after thought, with no engineering involved.
With endless threads about just this subject, I don't understand why Kahr has not done anything to fix it, if nothing else, at least a different base plate design.

Nice find! I've been considering one of these for myself but I haven't seen any around anywhere. I want to be able to see how it fits my hand before I lay down the cash. Let us know how it shoots.

Good looking gun. Nice find. Sig Sauer's reputation is great. I'll bet it will perform flawlessly.

Hi,
I'm guessing that the "speed bump" in the trigger guard is so that you can have a large guard, just right trigger size and yet still not get any finger pinch while shooting. Would that be about right?
Bill K.

I have one of the new Sig 8round P290 mags on the way. It adds quite a bit to the purchase :) There is a 7rounder coming out also, which should be the happy medium.

Let us know how it shoots.
In 300 rounds no failures and it is surprisingly well mannered for a little 9mm. I suspect its the designs balance...which, like I said feels odd at first but works great when it counts...shooting the gun ;)
As it break-ins I like it more and more....

Congrats. I'd never jump anyone for buying a SIG or HK. My line of SIG's go all the way back to a P225 in 1982, and I never met one I didn't like.
Here it is wearing Kahr clothes  A Don Hume 715-M for MK/PM 9/40.

I know...sometimes it just pays to "wing it" ;)
The P290 has a polymer frame(with metal rails) and a stainless steel slide in Nitron(black) or natural finish.

Some people dont like the DA triggers, I however am not one of them. I have a CM9 and a Kel tec PF9. The long da pull can be a good thing. I like the 290 but how is the weight? It seems I remember reading that it was a few ounces heavier than the Kahrs.

It is heavier than the poly Kahrs, the P290 weights in at 20.5oz.
The Kahr God got me...I've been speaking bad about my experience with the PM45 and Kahr's servicing of the pistol etc....
Then this happened yesterday
I really liked The Sig P290 and it has been 100% reliable through ~400+ rounds. I have been using it as my EDC and took it to the range yesterday.
I fired one round and something didn't feel right...The trigger did not reset, so I cleared and re-chambered a round, which reset the trigger. On the next pull it did not feel right, the hammer fell but did not fire the round. I found that cycling the slide with the trigger back(as if firing) would not rest it. If the slide was racked with the trigger out it would reset the trigger, but every attempt to fire like this resulted in a light strike, FTF.
Its on its way back to the mothership for repair ....but I'm out a carry gun for a month and I'll have to sell or trade since it has shattered my confidence...more BS and wasted $$:mad:
I had a Taurus PT709 go belly up on my after 6mo as my EDC...After that I swore off buying any "value" brand firearms......Lots of good that did... since my let downs by Kahr and Sig Sauer its cost me way more than the value brands break downs.
I swear, the only freaking truly reliable handguns left in the world are Glocks.

sorry to hear that Pain. glocks are great guns and I know u also know they have had issues also. All one has to dois read all of the internal design mods they hgave made over the years. Has to be a reason for that. No tknocking them mind u. I have a G19 , It had to go back once for a minor issue and it is one super gun. I trust it no more, nor less than my PM9 and K9.
can't argue with your feelings either, u paid your dues that is for sure..

The trigger pull is heavier, too, at 9 lb. Interestingly, the trigger pull on the P250 is 6 lb. And, they are surprisingly inexpensive! I am dreaming about a P250 Subcompact in 45.

PaiN--Sorry to hear of your P290 problems. I'm a SIG guy but I shot a PM9 just as the P290s were coming out and decided to go with a PM40 instead of a P290. Then got a CM9 after reading about some of the teething problems with the P290. If I get one at all it will be in a year or so. Right now, I am very happy with the Kahr's for carry, the SIGs for range/IDPA and the Desert Eagle 1911G for its history and educational value. Good luck with whatever you get next.

Too bad about the P290.... it's been on my short list along with the CM9 and Kimber Solo for the last 6-8 months. All three are different manual of arms, which can be adjusted to, and all three somewhat comparable in size, but so far it seems that the CM9 has the fewest user complaints.
Another reason I believe that every person that carries should have a rock solid .357 mag revo to back up the semi-auto that's much more likely to break down. Even the most solid, simple design of the SP101 is subject to the "man-made failure", but the odds are it will outlast most any semi-auto.
I hope the P290 comes back in flawless condition, but it sounds like it's going to be "on the market" anyway. Too bad. Let us know what the repair report from Sig claims was the cause of failure. That would be good to know.

My daughter can't quite make up her mind on her first gun . At the range today she tried a Sig 239 and it shot very well . She loved it and got all excited . Of course I told her Sig has a great rep . So ur report started out very positive and ended on a downer . Suppose it could happen to any gun . But ............. they are not inexpensive and if she has problems w her first buy it would really be a bummer .

The P239 is a totally different animal than the P290. You need to know that the P239 is a long established, tried and true "compact" (not sub-compact) handgun. They have a nice long track record of rock solid reliability. The P290 is a totally new design, and Sig's attempt to get into the "wonder nine" market. They are definately subject to have some teething problems along the way, but I'd bet that Sig will make them right eventually.
For what it's worth, I have a P239 in 40 S&W and it's a great pistol. Somewhat large for a single stack carry gun, but in the 40 cal it is a real pleasure to shoot.

Thanks for all the "sympathies" ...I needed them, between the PM45 and P290 I've had much aggravation, wasted time and money
I am going to put the P290 "on the market" once its back and repaired.
The shop where I purchased it is handling the repair tag and shipping, but if I can find out what was done I'll be sure to tell...

Hi all! New here but not to firearms.
Interesting that several mentioned Sig's great reputation.
I used to think so too, based on my 20+ year old German made P228 and my 5 year old US made P220.
Then I bought a P238 when they first came out.
What a disappointment that was.
I so wanted to like the P290 as I wanted a small carry gun bigger than .380.
But I resisted due to the huge diappointment with the P238.
But- I found two CM9's last week for $395 ea and brought them both home.:D
Took them both to the range and fired about 50 FMJ through each and assortment of HPs with NO failures whatsoever:w00t:
Been in my right front pocket ever since....

I think the early P238's had problems - hopefully that's resolved by now. I've been shooting SIG's since 1982, and they've always been my favorites in their class. I'm finally picking up my flawless nickel German P220 tomorrow after it has spent ten months in the police evidence locker. My C3 is my favorite 1911 to shoot and carry. A recent fondness of things HK has somewhat damped my 'SIGness', but I still like them.
Anyway, I don't think you will regret the CM9 purchases. Since I have a PM9, I'm waiting on the CM45.

They pretty much are, in fact I keep forgetting to call them about replacing my 3 P238 mags with their latest 3rd version they repalced them once with version 2) and also the recoil spring with the new version.
Just kinda ticked me off so many of us had to beta testers for them...as you no doubt know .380 isn't cheap and long wait times spent on the phone with them was just a bit much...
I really hope they get their act together, meanwhile I'll keep on enjoying my two flawless Sigs and my two flawless performing Kahrs.

yeah i had the blackwood edition 238 and sold it because I was having issues... I trusted my kel tec over that p238 which was sad... I have yet to fire my p290, as I am the second owner and the first told me 250 trouble free rounds! Either way if it's having issues i'll just send it back to sig until they make it right!
WTF is wrong with these gun manufactures these days? Actually can any company make a product and/or provide quality service?? I believe not... A symptom of the condition of the world today and the lazy brain dead people in it? I believe so....Yea, the Sig came back broken too from its repair....Sig out did Kahr on this one.....The P290 came back not just broken, but less functional than before the repair. Someone explain this one too me...?

Someone explain this one too me...?I bought a Sig P238 in February. I sent it back for excessive malfunctions in March. The gun was totally replaced because they found a fracture on the frame near the trigger pivot. It was sent back at 300 rounds. It was equipt with a CT laser which used a switch on the front grip, where a finger would always fall. The new gun sent to me had an outsourced Sig branded laser. This was a CT design which was cheaper and used a switch on the side of the laser. As for malfunctions, it was not perfect either and it went back. Sig polished the feed ramp, fired 50 Speer LE GD HPs thru it and it has been fine ever since. The laser sits home unused, after one range use, the dot grew to about a 6 inch circumference. My guess is that it's dirt in the lens I can not remove.

The newer P238s have a third generation mag, a second gen recoil spring design, and a second generation slide. Lasers, if packaged, were downgraded in type due to cost. Sweet shooter when its right.
I know I shouldn't admonish "people" there are plenty of good guns and products made.....but I'm so fed up at this point, I have to vent.

Don't blame you on venting. As I mentioned earlier in the thread I used to think Sig had a great reputation, and they did. Not anymore. My experience with the P238 has soured me and I've already spent several thousand dollars on other guns that would have been Sigs if they hadn't lost their reputation.
Oh I forgot to mention besides the feeding/extraction problems I had they also installed the wrong height rear night site on mine and apparently quite a few others. They did send me the correct one so I could swap it out myself rather than returning the gun to them, that was nice but really didn't make up for the lack of QC putting the wrong one on in the first place.
I truly hope your P290 gets straightened out. I just saw a great deal on their defense rifles ( I refuse to say assault rifle). Would have bought one in a sec but they've had really bad reviews and lots of problems. My two .223 Bushmasters and my DPMS .308 have given me ZERO problems.
