View Full Version : Talk me out of a SIG p232....

OK, I got a bunch of handguns. Got the P380 and MicroDesertEagle, carry one of my Kahrs or Glocks in 9mm, the rest sit in the safe unless I can score some .45 ammo on the cheap: so I need another gun like a Eskimo needs ice.

When I bought the PPK about 20 years ago, the Sig .380 was also under consideration. I thought the PPK was so cool, but never carried it and hated shooting it (it, and the LCP went away to finance this year's Kahr purchases). I also traded a LCR and a brace of RIA 1911s 'cause I never shot them.

.380 ammo is still pretty costly, I'll never carry the Sig and it is expensive. But, the LGS has one on their website, I've been researching it on the interweb and.......

Please tell me this is a terrible idea and that I should spend the money on ammo instead.

Bad idea. Buy ammo, feed the pig and buy another 45.

Think if you actually had it you'd carry it sometimes?

Get a PM45 and your RIA's back. And ammo

Even a little P232 would finance alot of ammo.

Go hold it, see if theres a connection, if not get ammo. If yes, get it and ammo and a 45 and ammo.

Man you are in so much trouble. Your better half is gonna slap you silly.

For that kind of money you can buy a pistol that is nearly as small in a real caliber like 9mm or .40

CDNN had some that they were selling for $429 and they were in great shape. All Stainless with night sights that were undercover trade-ins. I had the 232 Stainless and it was a beautiful gun, great shooter BUT it bit the crap outta the web of my hand if I was not careful. I sold it, 5 mags for it, new rceoil spring and 100 rounds of ammo. I have never lost sleep over selling it and do not miss it at all. I can't say that about some sales that I made. I would pass on a Sig 232 even for $400 shipped.

You're getting sleepy, very sleepy. Your eyes are getting heavy, very heavy. Repeat after me... I don't need no stikin Sig... I don't need no stinkin Sig...

Well! That was fast! Thanks for the "dope slap", guys.

(Bawanna: still have some .45s, just not 1911s)

The Sig 230/232 is a beautiful classic. One of my favorite pistols of all time. I've bought all of mine used except for the R.T. model, so the price has always been a factor, but the gun itself, at whatever price, is a jewel.

You could say I'm a fan...

The stainless is a perfect range gun.

The blued alloy is a joy to carry due to it's light weight.

The .32acp is a blast to shoot.

The "Gun of the Month" Rainbow Titanium is just because.:D

If you enjoy well made quality firearms, classic, lines and reliable fun, then the Sig P232 is a good addition to anyone's collection.

I always thought the Walther PPK/S would be the perfect CCW, but it bit the web of my hand, and though it shot accurately, I didn't really like it and sold it.

I love my PM's and have the bike innertube grips, which to me are just perfect. the last time out with the PM45 and my 1911 with Cocobolo grips, I didn't even use a glove and never felt discomfort... with at least 260 rounds fired... 60 defense loads!

Oh, at the gun show this past weekend, I picked up most of the Kahrs I saw, and quickly put them down... hate the "nibs" or small cheese graters. It's amazing the difference the "right" wrap makes. For me the innertube is perfect... just enough to smooth out the bites and give me a better grip without the bulk.

I wouldn't say your a fan. I'd say your obsessed. But they do make a lovely picture. They are darn nice looking.
I don't think we've helped CPO15 get this current obsession out of his system but I didn't have real high hopes anyhow. Once a gun enters the want list of you head, resistance is usually futile at best.

What gave it away?

I agree the sig not so much, but resistance is futile. Like Mr. B said, feed the pig.

I have the P230 for years 20 years(same gun as the P232 I believe). I love mine. It is a solid and very dependable gun. Classic lines and I have nothing negative about the guns performance. It is a bit heavy for the caliber if CCW though. Benn my primary carry for years.

Scratch that itch for about half the price. Alloy frame, 8+1, no big-ass sights to snag on anything. It does have the world's ugliest grips on it. Those gotta go. It's a Bersa ThunderCC 380. That's actually 18 rounds on the target. The center was gone. Upper lefts were the two 1st shot DA pulls.

Had I known about the Bersa line I would have bought one of them rather than spending $475 in 1999 on a new Sig P232. They are sweet guns but the bite the crap outta my big hands, that is why I buy Kahrs now.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v391/BDSBruce/Blog%20Photos/8e448fba.jpgGander Mtn. advertized the Bersa Thunder .380 at $229 in duo-tone. My local GM did not have it in stock (often the case with them). This model is not melted like the CC carry model but a fine gun at the price.

I love quality, and the P230/232 is very high quality. If I had the money to poop on safe queens (I would love to be a "collector"), there would be one or two in my safe. I figure I can carry my Kimber Compact Stainless about as easy as I can carry the P230/232 and have much more confidence in the projectile. But, then again, I'm also green with envy over the Seecamp 32's and 380's as well as the Rohrbauh (sp) line. Would I actually carry them??... probably not since there are now so many options in sub-compact 9's. I carried a .380 for 4-5 years and always heard it screaming out for a shot of viagra. I figure now, it's 9's or better to play my hand.

SIG P230 was my first gun and one of my favorites. Fits my hand perfectly with the Hogue aftermarket grips.

Here's a pic of me a few years back plinking with the P230SL with the wife at the old family farm down in southern Kentucky. I had biking gloves on since we were moving some brush and splintered old wood with nails...not trying to go for the tacticool look.:D

http://i916.photobucket.com/albums/ad2/breley/Misc/plinkingouthouse.jpg

That's the old outhouse behind me. Yessir, the only running water is from a natural spring nearby. That, or the running of a bucket from the well. To my right on a couple of ammo boxes is the wife's SP101.

I'm not sure why Sig made such a heavy framed weapon for a .380...

The design of the pistol is beautiful, but not for that caliber...

Juse my $0.02!!

(BTW, I love my Sigs!)

come to think about it...this is the only negative about the sig. It bites me too. Otherwise it is a great gun. The other negative is it is not made in the USA.

Have a P239 and it's one of my favorite guns.
I think it's almost exactly the same size as a P232!
It's a lot heavier.
But that totally soaks up the recoil on its 9/40/357 bullets.

I've got it in 357 and a friend was blown away with the lack of recoil.
It feels like a 22 to me. I could shoot it all day, every day, with hot
1300 FPS 125 grain LE rounds.

Still, it's a little big for pocket carry (except/big deep cargo pockets).
No P239 Micro (with a 3” barrel and two finger grip) is what drove
me to the Kahr MK40 Elite! I looked at the P290. But the all steel MK40
seems like so much more gun to me. (And I’m a stainless man….)

You just can’t have too many toys!

The P232 is in fact currently produced in Exeter, as are many Sig models.

Whew! I thought I was the only one.
For ages I wanted a PPK simply for the cool factor... until I found the P232. Yes I have larger calibers but this one speaks to me and I shoot it well. (and I also have a thing for Sigs) ;)

Mine has on it made in West Germany. A guy at the range said it is more sought after because it says that. Not sure I agree though

Get a PPK instead. Either way you go, you'll have a gorgeous .380 that you'll hate. They'll bit the web of your hand, eat expensive ammo, and are basically pointless. They are eye candy, thats all. You can get a 9mm that'll eat cheaper ammo and have more power in a package of the same size (but hey, im preaching to the choir...this is a Kahr forum!) Oh yea, dont forget about the feeding issues. If you get one that actually makes it through a box of ammo without a failure, go buy a lotto ticket. Waste of friggin money. So while you are putting Nu-skin on your sliced up hand, and your wife is screaming at you because the ammo bill is through roof, remember me. You'll actually have plenty of time to think about my warning while your on the phone with tech support trying to find out why your new POS isnt reliable. Anyway....i'll wait to sing my told-ya-so dance.

But.... dang. These little 380's are straight up sexy. Get one.
