First I'll start with a little background.
I had previously owned a P9 and loved it and found it to be the best carry gun for me.However I ran into a situation where I needed the money more than the gun (I also have a pm9) so I sold it.I knew I would replace it at sometime...
When I purchased my P9 there was no CW9 to compete with it.Now I was faced with the decision of getting another P9 or trying the CW9 and using the extra money for mags etc...
Now forward to April of this year...
I found a cw9 through a large internet gunshop (the name begins with a B) for under $375 to my ffl and that made the decision pretty easy.
I got the CW9 home and found it to be a beauty,my P9 had some visible machine marks and the polymer frame rails had some not so pretty spots(it always functioned 100% however),this Kahr however had none and the frame was perfect.I figured this would be a good sign.
So I used some weaponshield clp and let it soak overnight then racked the slide by hand a couple hundred times and was ready to hit the range.
I finally got it to the range in the beginning in May of 2011
I took the following range ammo:
WWB 115gr. -100 rounds
Federal Champion 115gr. -50 rounds
Federal American Eagle 124gr. -50 rounds
And some defense ammo
Black Hills Tac-Xp(Barnes Tac-XP) 115+P -25 rounds
Federal XM9XB1 (Barnes XPB) 115+p -25 rounds (Thanks PaiN!!)
Federal HST 147gr. -25 rounds
Winchester Ranger T-series -25 rounds.
Now the fun stuff.
I had no failures with any of the range ammo there were 2 FTE with another shooting it and they were limpwristing it so I wasn't worried about it.
Now for the defensive stuff once again there were no failures with any of the defensive stuff and with the different profiles and length of bullets this was very good.I was not suprised by this s none of my Kahr 9mms have been too picky about ammo choices.
So I wanted to try some accuracy testing,my testing is very simple I load 5 rounds each into 2 mags.Shoot to slidelock reload and repeat (this is done rapid fire at 7 yards as in fitting with the purpose of the Kahr). My Kahr P9 had great results with the Winchester Ranger T series 147 so I was curious as to what this Kahr would prefer.
I fired 15 rounds of each to get acquainted with them and then off I go. I was suprised that the two 115+P loads performed best in my test on this day with the nod going to the Black Hills load. The Winchester Ranger T series 147 and Federal HST 147 loads didn't perform as well.
There was a nice series of 3 touching with Winchester Ranger T Series in the center circle left and high of center which showed me it is capable of better and I had fired other guns that day as well as the kahr so I thought my form was lacking later in the day.
Now forward to today...I decided to give the two 147 loads a chance to save face.
I went back today with the two 147 grain SD loads and 50 rounds of S&B 115 gr. range ammo and once again there were no failures and the two 147 grain loads did much better (see picture 3)
I have to say the CW9 is a great handgun and a great bargain at that.
I have 380 rounds through it and it hasn't failed me once, the trigger is very nice and I really don't mind the factory bar/dot sights.
