Hi all I'm new here and to Kahr Arms I've never owned or shot one of their weapons but like how they handled in the shop. That said I'm not new to guns and am strongly considering the PM45 as a concealed weapon. Id like to know what the deal is on these little guns, are they reliable and of good quality? Are there any other issues these are or were known for?

I've read about early ones having peening issues but that Kahr corrected this by machining q notch into the front of the slide, these are what are referred to as "notch guns" among Internet users and seem to have no issues. So what's the verdict on this gun? Please tell me all there is about these as what I typed here is all I really know about them thanks for any help guys.

I'm keeping mine. A few have indeed had issues that required minor tweaking to sending them back more than once.
To me the are well worth doing what ever is necessary to make them reliable and trustworthy for carry.
Many of the issues present during the notch gun era have been addressed and we see far fewer of those issues on new guns.

I don't think we see any more issues now on the PM45 than we do on any of the others occasionally. The 380 seems to have issues now that I'm hoping they find a cure for soon, seems we hear alot about those lately.

So are the guns with or without the notch the ones to get? Also the one I'm looking at has a "SV20" serial number prefix would this be a pre or post problem gun?

I'm not up on the serialization but I wouldn't say they had an era of problem guns. Many guns around the time of the notch issues ran perfectly. The notch more often than not just created a cosmetic issue, just a matter of cleaning up the peened area and all was well.
Some had issues with the stripper on the slide not being beveled in that same time frame, some wouldn't pick up a round, others ran fine even with out the bevel which we've discovered is an easy do it yourself fix if needed.
If the one your looking at is new, I'd have no reservations going for it, kahr will take care of it if you have issues, you most likely won't.
If it's used then you might want to do a little more research I reckon but even then it's probably ok.

This gun is a new replacement of one that went back to Kahr twice. I know the guy who had the original Kahr replaced the problem gin with a new one the one I'm looking at Now my friend owns the shop and said he can't sell it as new even though it's a factory new replacement with a new serial number. He said I can have it for $500 OTD it has box 2 mags and manuals.

I'd be all over that deal without hesitation. If you pass let me know, I'll take it.

sure there is a PRE POST prblem gun, what issues with the PM45 has ben few, some solveable rifght on this forum, sopme required a trip back. I would not be afraid to buy any pM45 made. We also know that one person who had bought a PM45 used and then had all kinds of issues with it and came forward here to report, was asked tolet another good shooter tryt the gun. Which he did and BINGO notone issue, and he has since posted that after seeing that, he knew theissues were his and not gun related and has since adapted or what ever and is perfectly fine with his used PM45 that he thought was a POS.

Not saying this is tr\ue with all guns that give issues, but we do know that alof of some of the issues are shooter error issues. Kahr can't fix that stuff.

$500 for a new one. I'd be on it before he could finish the offer. Any problems were long ago enough ago that they have been fixed.

Just get it shoot it and love it, you'll be glade you did.

I bought a used PM45 with a Mag-Na ported barrel for $460. I love the ergos on these pistols and its a very accurate shooter in my hands. It is also amazing how comfortable the PM45 is to shoot...all that bark and so little bite.
That said mine is currently back at Kahr for "repair/replacement". The gun had many functional issues, which were worked out. I traded the gun and it promptly malfunction for its new owner. The slide locked up, the poor guy never even got to chamber a round.....Anyway, I felt obligated to buy it back and the shop I purchased it from handled the back and forth with Kahr.
I'm hoping all turns out well and when the PM45 is returned its fully functional and can be the awesome carry gun its so close to being.

I bought one in January of last year, and I really liked the pistol. It was my primary carry. The only problem I ever had with it, was that it managed to get itself stolen earlier this year. I replaced it with a PM9 only because I had 1500 rounds of 9mm ammo and nothing much that shot it. I'm sure there's a PM or CM 45 in my future.

I picked up a PM45 last Thursday at what I thought to be a good price. I was really curious about the pistol and finally took it to the range Saturday morning. 75 rds of get up and go. The recoil is manageable and the gun functioned flawlessly with the FMJ and Golden Sabre +p I fed the gun. What a great piece. I am now looking for a good IWB to make this my primary carry piece. :)

I purchased a PM45 last November and ran 900 rounds with out a malfunction EXCEPT for the fact that the frame was chipping at the end of the rails from the slide ramming into it. Sent photos to Kahr and they said it was normal, like I believe that. Some times during recoil you feel the slide ramming the frame. My dealer said they could/would do nothing to correct it, I shoot it toooo much.
First and last purchase from them. Then out of the blue the trigger would not reset. Sent it back to Kahr, through the dealer I should have purchased from and had it back in 7 days. Kahr replaced the frame and internal components.

I've put over 1200 rounds through it ( the new one ) with out a malfunction. The more I use it the more I like it. I'm more accurate with the PM45 than my P380 or PM9.

I've had mine for going on three years. Love it. It had to return to the mother ship twice but it's well worth it to me.

It's smaller and lighter than a PPK but it's a .45? How can you not love it? :)

I went to the local gun shop to check out the P40 as I was looking for something a little bigger than my PM40. After holding the P40, deciding that I prefer the shorter barrel of the PM, I asked the guy to see the PM45. I feel in love instantly, wow. I can't wait to buy one, **** at $500 you would be silly not to buy it. The guy quoted me $680 for the one I was looking at.

Thats right in the ball park. I paid 660 for mine and it was the best price around at the time.

500 is a gift or an omen.
