What do ya'll carry as a BUG to your primary? I just bought this little gem. It's a Beretta 950 BS .25acp Jetfire. I wanted something smaller than an LCP to put in my front pocket. It's single action, has a manual safety, and holds 8+1. Also a tip up barrel.

I guess my bug is the PM9. Other than one of those North American Arms mini revolvers in .22, the PM9 is my smallest pistol.

In fact, I've had it about twenty years but have never fired it. It is a beautifully made little gun though. It would make a nice charm for a charm bracelet or a keychain FOB.

Good description. I have shot mine on one trip to the range. It was kind of a shoot and catch kind of affair. Just nothing for me to hang onto even with the mild 22 LR recoil.
Jeepster sent me some rubber larger grips that feel much nicer but I haven't had it back out to shoot it again yet.
Now that I ponder it I have to look around for that thing, I don't recall where I left it. Hope I didnt suck it up in the vacuum cleaner with all the sawdust off my bench. That would suck really bad.

I have that same pistol in .32 - the Tomcat. I wanted something a little stronger than the .25 caliber. It's been pretty reliable over the last 20 years or so. The tip up barrel is a nice feature, allowing you to load a round without racking the slide. I carry it mostly in my front pocket, but I do have an Uncle Mikes ankle holster for it I use occasionaly.
My friend's father in law has the same thing in .22 and it's had a lot of problems with reliability, jams and such.
I do like those nice wood grips Melissa, mine still has the original black plastic ones it came with. I hardly ever carry it. My bug is a Charter Arms .44 special 5 shot revolver with a clip on the handle that clips to your belt when you slide it down the front of your pants. I don't worry about a holster for that one, I'm sure I'd notice if the trigger got caught on something. And considering the area the barrel is pointing at, I'm VERY careful when putting it on. :D It's my most concealable large caliber weapon, as just part of the handle sticks up above my jeans, and a t-shirt covers it well. Enjoy your new weapon!

melissa5, very nice little Beretta you have there.
First choice for weight, size, reliability and round is my LCP carrying 95gr DPXs

I sometimes use my PM9 as a BUG when I`m carrying a .45 as a primary. In the hotter months the PM9 gets carried almost exclusively as a primary because I ain`t really wearing enough clothes for a bug.Of course I could always buy another PM9 and carry it in my other front pocket.Food for thought.

Thanks! I thought about the Tomcat, but was told it was bigger than the Jetfire. Plus, there is the rim lock issue. Have you had any problems with that?

Bernadelli (VP) Vest Pocket .25 ACP designed closely to the "Baby Browning" series popular about 50-60 years ago before they were banned for import into the US. The ultimate "belly gun" Standard 5 round capacity or 7 rounds with an extended magazine (which I typicaly use)

Yeah, this will be a last resort weapon. Hopefully, I will have already nailed the BG with a bunch of 9mm or .45.

Nice gun!
What I really wanted was a Colt 1908 Vestpocket .25, but I couldn't make myself pay over $400 for a .25. If I ever run across one at a good price, I plan to buy it. Love those Colts.

I have two little semi automatic pistols that I carry as "BUGs". One, I'm hardly ever without and the other I carry on the occasional whim. I have thousands of rounds through one and only a few hundred through the other, but neither has ever missed a beat. I'm hardly ever without is this KT P32:

Not nearly so elegant as your Beretta . . . but, has always gone bang during the several years I have owned it.
And, by now, I can usually hit what I am shooting at, presuming self-defense distances. :)

You've hit a serious nerve with me on this one. In well over 50 years of guns and as the current owner of about 45 sporting arms/weapons, I've met maybe a half dozen I could never, ever part with. The .22 Short version of your 950 Jetfire, the Beretta Minx, is one of them. These are the slickest little, high quality SA pocket pistols ever! (Note to whoever mentioned Bobcat...not the same gun...not in the same league...not even close.) I bought mine new in New Hampshire in 1976 or 1977, along with a Jetfire, for use as as a plinker. The Jetfire now lives in my sister's purse...against my advice about using a .25ACP for self defense. The Minx is currently in a cabinet just inside our backyard facing inner garage door for use against stupidly aggressive squirrels attempting to steal bird seed/dog food from bins in the garage.
This gun is unbelievably accurate, I love shooting it, and despite the sub caliber wouldn't hesitate for a second to use it for self defense if necessary. It's that good.
That said, my next to this obvious last, bottom line BUG is a NAA .22mag. mini.

Nice Beretta. I have the .22 Bobcat that is a beautiful gun, fun to shoot but has had trouble since I've had it with Jams, etc... BUT, it was nagging me the other night and I pulled it out and started working on it. I smoothed out the inside of the mag, in particular the upper edge that holds the rounds in. I noticed it was nicking the cases and figured it was hanging. Also I put a mirror polish on the feed ramp and It seems to be feeding now and no more nose dives when the slide moves forward. cant wait to try it out.

This was my EDC... though I had the K9 and a PPK/S, this was what I carried loaded with Stingers... until I got my PM9, PM45, and P380. I only carried it as a BUG a few times... at night walking my dog. My ENC was my Para P12, requiring a belt with my shorts... belt loops or not.
The TPH is an Interarms model, made-in-the-U.S.A., that I bought in June '96. I had always wanted one, but the German model could only be imported for Law Enforcement. Stainless is nice for Florida, especially when you fall into the saltwater, unexpectedly.
My P380 weighs less... loaded! The P380 is 13.8 oz. loaded and the TPH 14.6 oz. They are both 6+1 and accurate, but the TPH could bite you, but not as badly as the PPK/S.
I had to carry the TPH with the safety on because it COULD discharge if dropped on the hammer... no inertial firing pin safety.

I have carried and used both the TPH and the PPK/S from Interarms for EDC. I still carry the TPH every once in a while when not carrying my P380. I prefer the Recluse holster for the P380 and love the way it hides in my front pocket.

The Jetfire arrived at my FFL this morning and I was at the range with it by 12:30. This gun is really fun to shoot. Aim at the target's head and do a mag dump. It'll put a big grin on your face! :D I fired 50 rounds of 50gr Fiocchi with zero problems. On eBay, I'm bidding on a box, manual, cleaning brush, and black plastic grips. Those are all in one auction. I'm wondering if the plastic grips are a little thinner than the wood.

Yeah I've had a couple rimlocks. I thought .25's were susceptable to that too.
If I have a mag that's been loaded for quite awhile and jostled around, I'll unload it and reload it just to make sure it functions well.
A cartridge I'm kind of keeping an eye on is the .32 NAA with a .32 bullet on a necked down .380 cartridge, giving increased velocity, better expansion, and more FPE delivered, than the standard .380 or .32. So far I think only Cor-Bon manufacturer the cartridge and only one pistol, by NAA uses it.
.... I'm wondering if the plastic grips are a little thinner than the wood.
They are. Not as pretty but more functional.

I use a snub 357 or a small 40 as my BUG sometimes. I witnessed an autopsy of a shooting once that kind of made me think. Dead guy was a BG, and had but one bullet hole, Center Mass, take a swing as to the caliber (25 acp) and the BG was dead before he left the scene. Bullet didn't exit, but it did it's job.

I've had one of these for about 25 years. Very reliable. It's become more of a safe queen since the PM9/PM40/LCR came along, but has been a trusted companion, and I still carry it on a rare occasion. I settled on Hornady/Speer 35 grain JHPs for carry in mine, but over the years I've shot most of the 50 grain FMJs, and some Winchester 45 grain JHP. I can't find that load lately, so stick with the 35's.
A couple of suggestions........the only ammo I've ever had any problem with was CCI Blazer (aluminum). It's great in other calibers, but since the 950 has no extractor, it depends on the cartridge case weight to throw itself clear after contacting the ejector, and the light aluminum cases don't fly as robustly as heavier brass cases.
Those wood grips are pretty, but unless the locating cuts are just right, and since there is only one grip screw, the grips can rotate and contact the bottom of the slide. At least the ones I put on mine did. I pulled the grips and did a little light sanding along the top edge of each grip until there was enough clearance that there was no possibility of the grip dragging on the slide and causing a malfunction. That slide needs all the enegy it can muster to do its job.

Thanks for the info. The 50gr Fiocchi worked just fine and it has been the lowest priced .25 ammo that I've seen. I'll probably just stick with that.

I saw some cautions on CCW with guns without extractors... could need a ramrod for the .22 at a bad time! Working the slide doesn't clear it and tipping up doesn't make it fall out with no rim to grip... especially if it's stuck.
Ramrod, anyone??

I received some "coins" with some gun related item I ordered that are very handy. Each coin has 4 different sizes of flat blade screwdriver sticking out 90 degrees from each other. They can be used for sight adjustment and other things, and the smallest blade will fit into a cutout on the barrel and let you pop out a stuck case on these tip up barrel guns. I carry it on my keychain and it's been very useful. I wish I could remember which company sent them to me. They sent 3 with the S&W logo, and one with a Colt logo. Wouldn't mind ordering a few to give away to my shooting buddies.

I'm budget-minded with the Gerbers, but needed help in opening. I found that I WANTED help after trying a few that required practice to open, or I ran out of reach with my thumb! I like a sturdy feeling... locks up solid, knife. I don't like those cheapies... wiggly blades and all at the gun shows. I was surprised by the $30 Gerber FD. I like a sturdy feeling... locks up solid, knife. I don't like those cheapies... wiggly blades and all at the gun shows. I was surprised by the $30 Gerber FD. I actually like it better than the Covert, which is closer to a real fighting knife(though a little light)... not that I'm knowledgeable about that! I would rather exchange bullets than knife slices up close!
Wynn:)
Ha! The auto version is nice, but I wouldn't pay that much for one. :)

I carry a version of the Swiss Classic, but without the scissors. It comes in handy, too. I use all of the tools on it... nail file, small blade(good for getting the cover off wine bottles), bottle opener/screwdriver, tweezers, and toothpick... all handy... in the "Classic" size. The only blade is tiny... just over an inch.
Wynn:)
Those little swiss knives are very handy. When I worked in IT, I carried the version that included a 1 GB flash drive, ink pen, and mini light.

BUGs and knives, how nice!:)
I laid down a pretty penny for a Sebenza some years back and have never regretted that purchase. It's one of the best tools I've ever owned. A quality knife is a good thing to have about, you could always pry a dud out of one of them there extractor-less guns:40:.http://i44.tinypic.com/xogvlz.jpg

If I were in a chair, I'd strap a SBR on it. ;)
Who told you about the SBR? Are there no secrets left in this world. I'm hanging a Mares Leg (maybe a Rossi Ranch Hand) on the other side to balance things out some.

Thats another fine picture there Greg. Thats the same size NAA I have. I gotta look around and find that thing tonight when I get home. I'm worried about it. I know it's there just don't remember exactly where.
I gotta go look up Sebenza now, never heard of that one.

Dang! It's like a war zone here... lots of incoming! I waited too long to go shopping... severe thunderstorms and lots of lightning... close and loud. We need the rain badly and I'm tired of the smoke!
I think I'll wait until later to go pick up the 8mm movie to DVD conversions I finally had done at Costco. Some date back to mid-60's and then to mid-80's. i couod only find 4 and one was of my kids in mid 70's. I thought my ex had all of those and I find that she has a lot I want... some from Vietnam... my last TDY in August '68 before discharge. I know I have some footage from C130's over there and so footage of the warbirds taxiing at Danang... and maybe Cam Rahn Bay. Rambling Wind... er, Wynn. :blah::blushing:
I'm having minute power outages... glad everything is on UPS's. Power off... and on... again. Today's a watering day and I don't have to drag hoses into the wee ours of the morning... or until daylight... snoozing in my TV chair. :)
I can't even start the wash now, with the outages.

Good Grief Greg, holy pretty penny batman. I just looked up Sebenza and you gave more than a few pretty pennies for that bad boy. They are doing CPR on me now trying to get me going again. I don't hold out much hope.
Kind of liked the Soldier fixed blade until I got to the price list. I still like it but it's not in the cards.................................

I guess Bawanna will opt for the "Rifleman option" on the lever... sexy!

I don't think Steve McQueen used that mod on Wanted: Dead or Alive. His lever was standard-sized, too.

I actually prefer the standard loop, the big loop is just too big. Since it's on the Rossi and it's just a toy, I'll no doubt stick with it.
There is a John Wayne loop that is kind of in between size and I like the looks of that one. Might do that on my Puma 92. Cool is everything.

If you have the blue and red 3-D glasses, this is a real dem/test of them!
This guy's knife and arm reach WAYYY out at you!
OOPS... off topic!

They were quite a bit less in the decade I bought mine.:)

Now that's what I'm talking about. I've have to get a letter from Obummer hisself to carry something like that though. I'd sure find a place for it if it was legal here though.

I saw some cautions on CCW with guns without ejectors... could need a ramrod for the .22 at a bad time! Working the slide doesn't clear it and tipping up doesn't make it fall out with no rim to grip... especially if it's stuck.
Ramrod, anyone??
Wynn:)
The 950 has an ejector. It doesn't have an extractor. But same result as you describe. A dud, rim or centerfire, or oversize case, requires unconventional means to clear it. It isn't a gun for a novice. At least a novice you care about.
