I took at a look at my server logs tonite... and got a surprise -

Florida Power and Light has a web crawler pounding my http and ftp sites, and at times, pounding pop3/smpt server (which is currently off line).

So.. I guess the phone call goes out tomorrow... which I'm sure they'll deny any activity.

This is the sort of antics I get from universities, and never from Google or Bing or such, which are very well behaved.

Makes me wonder what the power company wants with the information they find.

Odd indeed. Wonder if it is really theirs or if someone else now "owns" one of their servers.

I have a friend who is in the internet advertising business, actually he's based out of FL. He use to do a lot with the cell phone companies, satellite and cable, etc. He says the switch has been made recently to the power companies as the de-regulation of the industry and influx of competition among states power providers is heating up. Might be a sign of the times for your area and a "pre-emptive" strike or fact gathering mission on their part...

Its their IP, and their domain, that would be exceedingly hard to spoof.

155.109.5.21 GIFL3.FPL.COM

Its theirs

I didn't keep up with the internet stuff and am trying to understand why they or anybody would do that. I don't question they are, but it's the why. What useful information do they see?
