Hey all,
I picked up my second Kahr last week, a NIB PM9. This purchase was made with some reticence, due to the problems I've had with my P380, primarily a frustrating premature slide lockback issue. I was hoping the well established PM9 would prove to be very reliable, and so far I'm quite pleased.
I went through jocko's Kahr prep guide step by step, something I failed to do with the P380, and doing so made a world of difference for a pistol that was very tight right out of the box. I thoughly cleaned it using Eezox, with non-chlorinated brake cleaner for the striker channel, then lubed it up using Slide Glide. The trigger had been slightly gritty at first, but blowing out the striker channel seemed to help that, as did numerous dry fires since then. It's quite smooth right now.
My initial range session consisted of putting 200 rounds of Sellier & Bellot ball ammo down range, and I'm happy to report that the little pocket nine ran flawlessly, and was very accurate to boot. It just gobbled up the inexpensive S&B ammo and kept on trucking.
I did experience two minor issues. The slide failed to lock back after one of the early mags, but was fine after that. And I found it very difficult to get the magazine to drop after emptying it out. I finally figured out that I really had to press in the mag release to get the mag to drop. The issue seemed to lessen the more I shot, and I'll see how it does at my next range session. A minor issue, really, but something to keep an eye on.
So, it's safe to say that my confidence in Kahr is restored. I'm very happy with this purchase, and I'm in the process of buying a Mitch Rosen IWB holster so I can start carrying.
Now, if only I can get the P380 to run as well...
