Well, I'm beginning to fell like Melissa given the rate at which I'm buying guns lately. Today I made the mistake of stopping in at a local gun shop and a G36 whispered in my ear that I should touch it. So I did. Then I bought the darn thing. I got what I think was a very good price of $508 + taxes and just couldn't pass it up.

I looked through my ammo supply, which is divided between pistol and rife ammo and found one single .45acp round, a 230 grain Federal Hydro-shok that's probable twenty years old. This evening, I plan to remove the fungus and green stuff from that fine cartridge and head o the range tomorrow. Just kidding.

Given the cost of ammo, I don't plan to shoot this gun very often, just enough to be sure it functions properly and then maybe once a year thereafter. I've ordered a Silent Thunder for it and think the combination will work well when it cools off here in Tejas.

While I was perusing the inventory in another LGS, I saw one of Colt's New Agents in .45acp. What a beautiful gun. Cost $975. I didn't touch it so it's still on the shelf at the shop.... thank God.

Good score Willieboy.
I've had my G36 about 6mos now and it is a joy to shoot, and carry.
Eats everything I feed it. Typical Glock. And 7 rounds of .45 aint' too shabby either.
Get into the reloading business now and you'll be all set. :)

Was yours reliable Mellissa? I hestiated buying it because I remember there were once problems with the G36. More recently though, reports seem positive.

So far, I've been extremely pleased with Glocks. I have had a G26 for at least ten years and I've never had a single problem with it. I have a G19 too that has been 100% for the short time I've had it.

In my quest for a single stack .45, I wanted to look at a P45 or a PM45 but could find neither. Even had a found one though, I doubt I could have justified shelling out an additional $200+ over the Glock's price. Glocks really do offer a lot of reliability and durability for the money... if you can deal with the blocky grip.

Colt New Agent is my next gun. Good luck with your Glock.

Thanks Wayne. The New Agent I saw today was just beautiful. If you go window shopping for one, be sure to leave your wallet at home.

Good luck with your new G36. I'm sure you'll llike it. I sold mine to fund my PM45. Can't really say I miss it but I'm all about carryability and the PM45 wins in that category.

Great find Willie...go enjoy that G36 and let know what you think.
I love my Glocks, I shoot them well and Glocks have never let me down function wise.

:( even the Sig P290 broke on me last night.

It was about 99.9% reliable. Every so often I would have a failure to extract, but I probably just limp wristed it. At the time, I couldn't get over not having more than 6 rounds in a mag...now I carry a 1911. :der:

Those New Agents look great. :hippie:

all about carryability and the PM45 wins in that category.

Even if it fit, I'd not put a Glock in my pocket. I don't trust the trigger. The Kahr trigger... I trust. Like a revolver long throw. Been first hand witness to too many Glock trigger mishaps, just me I guess.

I would never pocket carry a naked Glock either.

Good price on the G36. The one I bought 10 years ago was a bit more with NS. It's in my carry rotation still.

I'm looking at the Sig-Sauer P250 Subcompact (http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/p250-subcompact-nitron.aspx) in 45 caliber. It's almost as compact as the PM45, it has a 6 lb trigger reportedly as good as the Kahr, it's surprisingly inexpensive (around $400), and it's a Sig—their motto: “To Hell and Back.” So, I expect it will be very reliable. You can buy extra parts to change the size and caliber of the gun. The reviews are very positive, and I haven't seen any negative feedback. I know the Glock is a good, dependable gun, and this one is pretty new on the scene, but I think Sig can be trusted with this important new gun in their lineup.

Good luck with your Sig if yoy buy it. I've never owned a Sig but shot a P228 once and it was the nuts.

I found this link to the Sig P250 owners forum that might be of interest.
http://www.p250sig.com/

The gun seems to have a considerable following with some good reviews.
I too am a big Sig fan, have 3, and mine have truly been "To Hell and Back" reliable.

I need to stay away from the LGS as well.
Now, go buy that thing and give us a review.

I've got to build up my new piggy bank for a while. Buying the Custom Polished CM9 (http://kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=7334) this month broke the old one! And I still have to get to the range or the country and start breaking in this puppy. Still need to buy a good supply of break in ammo and some extra mags, but have to wait until I get my next check. :33:

I haven't seen as many of the Subcompact P250s for sale, but the full size and compact ones can be found for well less than $400. You have to look a little harder for the 45s, especially in the Subcompact.

I have had my G36 for over a year now and it has been totally reliable.Easy to conceal and a joy to shoot.I hope you have the same success with yours and more than likely you will. The only downside was that my brain [what`s left of it ] started to work [as best it could] and I decided I needed a .45 with more capacity. So,I sold two safe queens and last weekend a model 30SF came home with me along with some other doodads that I needed.Mrs.Dietrich does not understand my reasoning. I have a Glock 36 for several years now.In my opinion it handles better than my CW45,less kick and seems a little quieter.Never had any issues with it's reliability ! But I carry my CW45 because it carrys a little better. The CW has a slightly longer grip which sits right accross my beltline, whereas the 36 tends to point outward like I have a *****.Depending on the situation, maybe not so bad !:D

The Sig-Sauer site doesn't say anything about the Subcompact not being available in 45, but that may be why Bud's and everybody else seem not to have them. I am going to make a phone call or 2 to find out. Thanks!

I think you're right—no 45 Sub. While I was at Bud's, I was window shopping and came across this compact single-stack 45 from Taurus: the 745BP (http://www.taurususa.com/product-details.cfm?id=283&category=Pistol&toggle=&breadcrumbseries=). It is a nice 6+1 concealable package in 45 caliber. Tactical Tim had some good things to say about it:

Bud's has it for $344 delivered to your FFL:

Not bad at all for a carry gun that'll put 7 big holes in the BG(s) when needed.

Another thing I like about it is the double-strike feature—a nice thing to have on a carry gun.

About four years ago I bought a compact 24/7 Pro 45. It actually worked well and I put almost 1000 trouble free rounds through it before I sold it. About a year later, based on the performance of the 24/7, I bought the slightly smaller PT745. I shot 270 rounds on my first range trip with the 745. Of those, I had 44 FTFeeds and 21 FTE's. I sent the pistol back to Miami where it stayed for 6 weeks. When I took it back to the range the FTE problem was better, but I had even more FTFeeds. I traded it back to the dealer for a compact M&P 45, which was a great gun until it was stolen.

That's the reason, along with a troublesome 709 Slim, that I won't buy another Taurus. When they work they're good guns and I like their designs, but when they don't, Taurus CS is the pits.

I'll agree on the CS part, but then again they did make my 740 right (only shipped with one mag). I own three right now and trust all them with my life. A friend of mine picked one up because he fell in love with mine, and as a cop it's his off duty. The LGS/indoor range I used to frequent, the manager would call and ask me to bring that same Taurus in so that he could play with it. I however hear that the millennium series might be better avoided though.

Well, not so sure. The header say 45 but the details says 9mm. A nice review, though:
"I got my self a P250 compact, very great and easy handling. I buy only this brand because it is 100% reliable, cold, hot, wet or dirt does not madder for a SIG product. I did service in the Swiss military for 16 years and did shoot several SIG weapons, never ever a problem. By KadiP26 from Florida"

Bawanna

The review seems generic on the P250 but not caliber specific.

It clearly list that a 45 is available or is destined to be. I've never seen one but it does say they exist.

I hereby designate you JFootin as the official Kahrtalk P250 (45 cal) beta tester. Find one, buy it, shoot the heck and gone (oh I think thats HK) out of it and report back.

No hurry, we'll wait.

I do hope the report will be veerrrry interesting.

JFootin
06-30-2011, 12:11 PM
I sure will, Kimosabi—oops, I mean Bawanna. :yo: (I guess it depends on whether I'm channeling Tonto or Tarzan today. :D) But I need the Subcompact because, with my small, partially crippled hands, I need the thinner grip. That, and the Sig-Sauer reputation is why I am looking so hard for one.

I am also looking at the Taurus PT745. It is a nice compact package with second strike capability and good reports. It is also very inexpensive, which is another plus. Hard to find a nice, specifically molded holster for it, though. I think most people go for the higher capacity PT145 with a slightly fatter grip, so not as many PT745s are sold.

I know. I should look at the CW45. But one Kahr is enough for me right now. In the future, a K9 or MK9 with nice wood grips is a possibility, maybe an Elite. A man can dream, can't he? Funny. I used to dream about the fairer sex, but now I'm an old man and my interests have changed.

Keep your fingers crossed (unless that hurts of course), maybe the CM45 will appear in a timely fashion. That might be just the ticket for ya. And while I'll of course let you have the very first one, I want one too.

yeah, i was told that they didn't have it in 45 in the sub form from a local dealer, and upon further internet searching I never actually saw one for sale... They just might make them, but I doubt it. Next time I talk to sig on the phone I'll ask.

JFootin

A dealer CS employee said that Sig had some production issues with them, so that is the reason for the delay.
