View Full Version : Glock 26 or Springfield GI Micro?

I'm thinking about selling my Glock 26 since I have two compact 9's that I like and shoot better (PM9 and Colt Defender). I also have a Glock 17. So, I think I've got 9mm adequately covered.

I researched and found a 3" compact 1911 that is only 3 ounces lighter than my full size Colt...the Springfield GI Micro. A fun shop about 25 miles away has one advertised on their web site for $459. If it is still in stock, I think I will go look at it tomorrow.

the ejection port sure seems small compared to most 1911's. I would think timing would have to be ultra perfect along with super grip. beautiful gun though.

Only internet hearsay......I've read where the smaller 45 cal 1911's do have some problems with timing as also mentioned by jocko.

However YMMV on this internet "factoid".

If you get another 45 you're gonna have to start reloading to feed these monsters with insatiable appetites. (Unless you've got bottomless pockets or your new job(s) will cover the costs :D)

Bottomless pockets...not! I really am going to start reloading in the next month or two.

I also read about some of the problems with the compacts, but some were due to the extractor and ammo related. I'll give it a try especially since I can sell the G26 at that price or a little more. The PM9 and 1911 has ruined my relationship with my Glocks.

I hear you on ruining relationships. For some reason I just seem to shoot my hammer fired guns better than the striker fired I had. In fact, the only gun I have remaining is my CW9 in the striker fired category. But since I shoot my SP 101 DA most of the time, there is no real problem with the CW9.

To add, I hit closer to the bull and have tighter groups with the SP101 DA than I do using it and aiming in SA mode. Weird

Most modern 1911's have a lowered and flared ejection port. But in the 'GI' models they try to keep everything as original as possible; hence the smaller port like the original JMB design. I've had several compact 1911's from 3" to 4.25" and none gave problems, but they all had the larger port.

The only striker fired guns I have left are the two Kahrs, the M&P 40 and the LCP. I shoot the CW40 and M&P pretty well, but do better with the other hammer fired pistols. In my case though, I think the SIG's, HK's, 1911's, and S&W's are just inherently more accurate, and it's unrelated to the firing system.

I like the clean looks of that gun Mellissa. No exagerated beavertail grip safety or ambidexterous safety. If it were mine, I'd mount some Big Dots on it and call it done.

On a sad note, HOW CAN YOU GIVE UP YOUR G26? I'd sooner surrender a kidney or some other bodily organ.

I think we're in disagreement on this one - I'd rather give up a kidney or other organ rather than have to shoot a G26. :D

After shooting my PM9 and Colt Defender, the G26 is just :blah:

I'll still have my G17. That's my "end of the world" gun. Or "zombie" gun if you are into that kind of thing.

If you've settled on your SD carry and HD firearm then the rest is just fun and games. The G26, particularly if 2nd or 3rd gen, will have no problem finding a new loving home.

Oh, and thanks for helping do your fair share of keeping our economy from totally collapsing. :)

Ha! I do buy and sell guns frequently!

The G26 is a Gen 4 with TruGlo TFO night sights. I don't think I'll have a problem selling it for $500 +- $25.

The ports on the GI series are closer to the old GI or commercial Colt spec of the 70's and early to mid 80's. The grips are nice looking and not totally what you'd think they are. Not wood - some sort of laminate or synthetic impregnation. They smell like Micarta to me. They feel and sand like Micarta to me as well, but they look like wood and I cant see laminations in 'em. They're nice, sharp checkering and should hold up much better than wood.

I was inches close from getting a Springfield Micro GI, but couldn't find one. It was on the short list. SigP250SC in 45... never materialized from Sig, and then Kahr. The Kahr was in the right place at the right time - and I think I made the better choice. Nothing wrong with the Springfield, I've got the longer brother to it, but the weight makes the PM45 a nicer carry.

sights are fixed so that's not happening without big money to a gunsmith!

throw that 26 on glock talk for 500 shipped and you'll sell it in less than a day!

I considered the PM45, but I'm sure I wouldn't like the recoil of such a lightweight gun. The SA GI Micro is 33 ounces. That's heavier than my Glock 30sf.

Yeah, I saw that and decided to go with the SA name. The RI might be just as good or better. I don't know.

It's just a good, but I understand if you go with the SA I have a ultra compact loaded and love it!

Go for it and get the .45. I understand how you feel about the Glock. Some folks love them, others are just not turned on by them. I've had one and am in the not turned on catagory anthough they are a fine gun. Just preference.

Well, I listed the G26 on Glock Talk and just had an offer for $480 FTF. I think I'm going to take it. :)

I was not able to get the SA GI micro because the store was out of stock and had not updated their web site. Luckily, something better was at the used counter. It had been used, scratched, and put up dirty. Here it is now soaking in Break free CLP. Who can tell me what make and model it is? :D

Hard to say, I first was gonna go with Colt Officer but I'm leaning now towards Detonics. Been so long since I seen one I dont' recall a bushing though but probably so.

I know they had the coned barrel.

Just a wild guess. I ain't too bright on these things.

For a girl without a job for 3 years, your doing pretty good in the new toy department lately. Whats the secret?

Na na na na, na na na, I'd like to buy a vowel? Sorry bawanna your time is up. Is that your final answer? I'd like to call a friend, Sorry bawanna, wrong game show. Ok I'd like to take Vanna White out to the movies and dinner.
Good luck with that bawanna! Do you wanna be a millionaire or what? No, not so much, I'd worry at night about people trying to steal it or the government trying to cheat me out of it. Poor is good.

I wanna be on Deal or NO Deal.

You nailed it with your first answer. :cheer2: That's my smart cyber-hubby! :D

The secret is that Daddy left me a little money when he passed away.

Well I'm sorry to hear about Daddy's passing but I'm happy that he left you some money.

My kids are'nt going to be nearly as lucky I fear. I've given most of it to them while I'm still breathing. Guess they can liquidate my man cave and recoup a little bit. Those that don't go in the box with me that is. Might be a heavy box.

As a side note I had one of the Officers ACP's when they first came out. Mine was satin nickel. I carried it alot of miles.

I agree. Honest character. It's not bad at all. Great picture once again too. I'm seeing an end to the Bawanna Emporium and renaming it Melissa's grip provider forsaking all others. Killer of trees, maker of grips....................

I gotta check my drawer of forgotten grips, seems like I had some pretty cool ones for mine back in the day. Not sure if I still got em or not.
