After being held hostage for ten months, the Gwinnett County DA's Office finally released my nickel SIG P220 yesterday. Other than being shot and left dirty, I only noticed one small scratch next to the take down lever. Of course I only got one mag back so I'll have to spring for a spare. Anyway, I'm glad to get it back!

Glad you got her back. What is the back story here?

Well happy day! Been looking forward to this for a long time. No sign of the others or any indication of aprehension of the guilty parties?

At least you got this one back and it sounds like it was one of your favorites, so it's really a good thing.

Here's a thread for the first part of the story, a very sad sequel followed a short time later. I'll see if I can find the other one as well or it might be added on this one now that I ponder it.

Thank you and yes, it is one of my favorites because it's so rare.

A Gwinnett County Detective called me last week, and said that they had arrested two guys for burglary in a mini-mansion subdivision about a mile away from my house. They didn't have anything definite to connect them to the five burglaries in my division, and of course they denied it, but he suspects that they are the ones. I hope it's so, because they are now in jail. Of course my house is a tougher nut to crack now with a wireless security system, motion sensing floodlights, and the gun safe.

Well try as I may I can't find part II. I thought it was something like "It happened again" but I dont see it. If you punch in Odell under search theres the original burglary thread and the collection thread that followed Burg # 2.

I just can't find it.

I found it but don't know how to link to it. I searched under my name, general discussion, keyword 'Happened. It was posted on 2/20/11.

Your good Tucson, even with clues I still couldn't find it. I feel so dumb.

Thanks for the kind words, Bawanna. But, don't let the fluff distract you. If I were actually clever I would not have joined a company destined to go out of business and might now have either a job or some kind of retirement. :p

Stick with your day job. That's where the money is . . . ;)

That's exactly why I think it's important to have a second pistol!
BTW I've got a 10+ year old P220 with nickel slide and controls.
Looks kind of "Retro two tone".

Oh, I always have others. With the return of the SIG, I have 7 45's, 3 40's, a 9mm , and a 380.

Your P220 sounds nice. Mine is a 1996 build German gun, but was returned from SIG after a complete refurb two weeks before it was stolen. I've been a SIG fan for thirty years, but have recently developed a fondness for HK's too.

O'Dell, I am missing something. I read how these slime balls hit you twice but how did your Sig find its way home? Did the guys they arrest at another "job" have your Sig but not sure they were the perps?

It's is confusing, sometimes even to me. As you said there were two burglaries, one on 9/25/10 and one on 2/20/11. The first was partially my fault. I left the garage door open and the door from the garage to the house wasn't monitored. At the time there had never been an incident in the neighborhood. Five pistols were taken including the P220. The SIG was recovered 4 days later on a traffic stop. The guy was arrested for an illegal turn, no driver's license, stolen tags, possession of illegal drugs and a stolen handgun, the SIG. He was not the burglar as he had just arrived in Atlanta from FL two day earlier. He claimed he bought it for $100.

I have been arguing with the DA's office ever since that the gun was not needed for evidence as they had photos and the officer's testimony, and they finally came around last week.

Of the 15 pistols stolen in the two incidents, this was the only one recovered, I think. I say that because Gwinnett County got a report from the Barrow County Sheriff's Dept. on 5/15/11 that they had recovered the XD c 45 taken in the second burglary. I only heard about this last week, and when I called them about it, they could find no record of the recovery. Since they forgot to include a case # on the report, I can't track it down.

Have you contacted Barrow county directly? Seems that should be trackable based on serial number alone--right?

"the first was partiall my fault" get that notion out of your mind. These low lifes took something that did not belong to them. Unless you gave it to them, you culpability is zero in my book.

I know it has been said already but after reading the situation(s) these perps knew you at some level. Maybe employees?

Yeah, I talked directly the the Barrow County Sheriff's Dept. No luck tracing it through the SN. It's strange that they included the SN on the report to Gwinnett and a description of the gun, but left off the case #. The Barrow County DA goes to Vickie's church, so Sunday I took him a description and a picture of the XD, so we'll see if he can rattle some cages. The truth be known, it wasn't my favorite pistol, and although I replaced everything else one way or another, I never got another XD. If I get it back, I'll probably just sell or trade it.
