Well, I lost my mind at the gun show today. First I bought a t-shirt. Then I bought a hat. Then I bought a gun. When I left the house this morning, I had absolutely no intention of buying anything. The gun is a Colt MK/IV Series 80 Government .380. I really thought I was finished with .380s. Guess not!

Melissa,we must have the same genes somewhere along the line.I usually buy more at a gun show when I`m not really in the market to buy anything. To avoid this at the next show,I`m going to buy a Colt Python if I can find one for about $500.00.I imagine I`ll be looking for quite a while but at least it will keep me from buying anything else.Congratulations on your new purchases, by the way,

Thank you, gentlemen! I fear my Colt addiction will be an ongoing affliction.

And when you find that Python, let me know, I'll be happy to take that "old gun" off your hands for,.. oh,... I'll be generous, let's say $650? Deal ? :D

From what I can tell from the picture of the .380 it looks just like one I have. I have had it since 1988 and have debated selling it for the right price but I just cant let go. Shoots like a dream but it has become a safe queen. I think I paid less than $290 back then. Can we get a close up??????

Awesome, Melissa! I didn't realize that Colt made a MK/IV Series 80 Government in .380 ACP. I'll bet it's a soft shooter!

Here's hoping for a very positive range report. :)

Yeah, I'll post better pictures later today. The price has gone up considerably from $290. I saw one on gunbroker for $1000 that actually had a bidder.

It's just about the size of a PM9 and all steel. It should shoot a lot better than the LCP I had.

Wow, if I could get a $1000 bidder mine might just get a new home. Hmmmm.... what could I buy with an extra $1000 dollars??????

I owned a Colt Pony 380 many years ago. If I had only known what kind of price I could have gotten for it, I would have held onto it. :o

Ah, hindsight. If we only knew then...right? When I was in my late teens (late 60s), I owned a 1965 Mustang Fastback GT with the high performance 289, dual exhaust, 4 speed, fog lights in the grill, gorgeous louvered chrome tail pipe extensions poking through chrome lined holes in the rear valance panel. It was red with white racing stripes along the door sills, and red and white Pony interior. If I only knew what that car would have brought me at the auction, I would be grinning from ear to ear now! This is it except for the black interior:

That car is beautiful! I always wanted a Mustang, but the seats were too low for me see out of the car. :(

A local deputy sheriff had one as an off duty carry several years ago. I got to keep it long enough to make a holster for him. That was one sweet gun.

Sweet looking gun Melissa.
The best shooting I've ever done was with a tricked out, compensated, Colt 1911 (not mine). Have had an itch for one with, perl handles, ever since.
Some day...

Glad you found you some goodies. Looks like I'm going to have to stay away from gun shows for awhile. Going thru a divorce, and by the time I buy my wife's half of the house I'm gonna be living on slim pickings.

I'm sorry, Tom. I hope she doesn't try to make you sell some of your guns.

Thanks Melissa, She's not interested in my guns thank god. What worries me most is I may have to give up my Harley to help pay for the house. I think I'll be able to keep it, but I won't have much savings to fall back on. First thing I'm going to do is make the walk out basement an apartment that I can rent out for some extra $$$.

Tom,a lot of us have had to go through what you`re facing now. It`s never any fun and when it`s all over you feel as if someone has kicked you in the guts. And that`s when the divorce is an amicable one.Try to keep in mind that for every ending there is a beginning. If I hadn`t gotten divorced,I never would have met the current [and reigning champ] Mrs. Dietrich.Over the last 27+ years, she has managed to take my masculinity along with my will to live and do away with both. What a woman. She used to wrestle mules at the state fair too,so there!!

Thanks Dietrich. I'll be glad when it's all settled up and can get on with things. She is being pretty reasonable, so it hasn't been too bad. I'm just glad I can keep the house if I can come up with the cash to buy her out. Won't leave me with much, but I think after I fix the house up, I can sell it and make up for what I lost in the settlement.

That Colt is sweet and looks in good condition. Wait until you go shoot that thing. You're gonna love it. I have an LCP and they are not even close. The Government shoots as well as a 1911 with just a little less kick.

I don't know. There were several different models of Colt 380's. The Government model is a little bigger than the Mustang. So, I would guess it wasn't the one Sig copied. Just guessing though.

Yeah, here's the Sig and the Mustang. Next is the Government .380 and the Mustang.

Sig copied the mustang which is slightly smaller than this one. The Colt mustang and now the Sig are truly pocketable.

Very nice score Melissa! That 380 looks really great. I bet it is a pleasure to shoot.

I used to have a small 25acp Colt. Looked just like a mini 1911. Cannot remember the exact model. (25 auto?). It was an antique. It shot great. Like a dummy, I sold it. I wish I still had it. It would probably be a safe queen but that is OK.

Well, I took the Colt to the range this afternoon. It wasn't good. It fired 10 rounds and then locked up so tight that the range gunsmith had to get tools to unjam it. The fired casing wasn't the problem. The barrel and slide were binding somehow. It did that 2 more times in a row and I was done with it. Thank God I had gotten a card from the dealer I bought it from. He has agreed to refund my money at a gun show in 3 weeks or he could meet me sooner if I wanted to drive into Atlanta. I was nice and he was nice. I just knew I was going to be stuck with an expensive paper weight.

It WAS a pleasure to shoot before it started jamming.

You know, It doesn't look used much at all from the pictures. I bet it is something simple but it could take a little time to figure out. It seems like there is a spring on the frame that if it gets crooked or sideways or something it causes something like that. I let that thing get out of place one time a few years back and it took me a while to get it back right.

I know what you mean though. Burns getting a new goodie and it turns out to be a dud.

Does it do the same thing when you rack the slide now or only when firing a round?

Only when firing a round. I googled some and some people were having problems with the slide stop walking out and jamming the gun when firing. My slide stop doesn't feel like it's really being held in by anything.

I pulled mine out this afternoon to have a look and it looks like the only thing that could be happening would have to deal with the slide stop pin and the hole under the barrel that it goes into (cant remember what they call that.)

To get it apart did you have to remove the plug on the end of the recoil spring and knock out the slide stop? If so I wonder it the slide stop pin and the barrel are binding in some way. That's the only thing I see. Also I was looking at the SN on your's and if they go in sequence mine is a little later than yours.
