I just purchased reloading equipment to load 9mm and 40s&w. After setting everything up I loaded a bunch of 9mm fmj and 40 fmj. I am reading that some people will do a taper crimp on there bullets ,is this a nessaccary step with the two above mentioned rounds? Eventually I will be doing 45acp should crimpimg be one of the steps with this round also?

Yes, a taper crimp is necessary for removing the bell that the expander die left. Most seating dies for those calibers should also crimp.

These auto rounds like 9mm & 45, headspace on the case mouth, so they need to be taper crimped. Roll crimping is for rounds that headspace on the case rim as relvolver rounds do.

Thanks ,I guess when I get home I will be running them all back through the die to crimp.
