Carbon steel is what's in there now. As for the SS, there really isn't a performance increase, it looks cool, and has better corrosion resistance. Stainless will not show wear as quickly as blued carbon steel. Some people freak out if they think they see a scratch or what they think is excessive wear. Bottom line, if you want one, get it, if you can't justify it, don't.

Just as an FYI, a lot of people also think they need to change out the plastic one in their Kel Tecs only to cause early gun failure due to the steels inability to flex when cycling, which then causes excessive wear to other parts. Sometimes it is better not to "fix it" if it aint broken.

I thought you said your Kel tecs were junk. Jeepster, a bunch of makers use a plastic guide rod now. My SD40 has one, but I think that's the only one I own like that.

I put one in my MK9 Elite and had the barrel jeweled. I think it looks purdy.

This ain't sayin they are junk.....just sayin it was a big trend for Kel Tec owners to change out rod to steel only to have steel cause failure.
Kel Tec's are ok, not great, ok.:33:

Sorry bout that, I should have been more clear, I was referring to jocko with the junk keltecs. Either way, a plastic guide rod isn't bad if the thing runs like it's supposed to.

plastic guide rods worked fine when the guns worked. they looked like hell as they bent with the action of the slide but I never had one break. Not sure I called my kel tecs junk but 17 times back, well u can read between the lines. As u know some swear by kel tecs, some swear at them.

I guess to be upfront, I shoUld have called my 3 kt's junk but I just didn't want to label them that way..:33:

i DO THINK TODAY THOUGH KT'S ARE ALOT BETTER FOR RELIABILITY. Triggers still sucks but that is kt's and why u buy it for $250 to..

The plastic guide rod never gave a problem in the KT's I have owned. Notice I didn't say anything about the triggers or the FTFeeds.
