View Full Version : My first Kahr

I just wanted to give a quick report on my first experience shooting my first Kahr. For summer carry here in Texas, I wanted something more substantial than my LCP, but less heavy and bulky than my XD sub-compact. I had considered a Kahr PM9 in the past, but wasn’t thrilled about the cost. I was also a bit concerned by some of the things I had read on the internet. While I found many posts about how great Kahr firearms are, I also found many that depicted nightmare scenarios. Many other posts said that the light weight and small size of the PM9 made it unmanageable and/or painful to shoot.
I recently learned about the CM9 which addressed my concerns about cost. After some additional research and consideration, I decided to take the plunge. I purchased my CM9 for $439.99 on Tuesday at my local gun shop.
I found a wealth of information here on the Kahr Talk forums, including the lube guide and the prep guide. Using this information, I got my CM9 cleaned, lubed and prepped to take to the range for the first time today. I took 300 rounds of FMJ so that I could get though the break-in and then some. I’m extremely happy to report that this fantastic little gun performed absolutely flawlessly through all 300 rounds!
Not only was it flawless, but it was an absolute pleasure to shoot. Many reviews I had read stated that the PM9 and CM9 are “a handful” and have a way of eating at the web between your thumb and forefinger. I have no doubt that this is true for some people. Personally though, I found the gun to be, not only manageable, but really very fun to shoot through all 300 rounds. I found it to be very accurate and I found the trigger to be very smooth and just the right length. At 5’6” and 150 pounds, I’m not a big guy by any stretch of the imagination. If I find this gun to be so pleasurable to shoot, then I believe that just about anybody would. I hope that those people out there doing their research that have read about the PM9 and CM9 being unmanageable will find this post and be encouraged by it.
Now, I just need to save up for a holster, extra magazine and a Crimson Trace laser. :)

Thanks for your report... IMHO the CM9 will gradually become a huge seller, especially as all those new-CCW-LCP-buyers (what?... about 3/4 of a million now?...) decide they want to carry a 9mm sometimes.

aboard, now u probably realize at least one thing from reading all the negatives and a handful to shoot b.s. DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ.
For some people a 380 is a handful, some guns are a handful due to just poor ergonomics. Kahrs are certainly not in that league. I would have expected nothing different from you cm9 report either, they are just one super gun, the PM9 would have beenn o different as they are basically the same identical gun. Buy another 6 round magazine , stick witht he flush fit, that is what u bought it for for concealment. U might want to hold off on the CTC for your cm9, they have had some issues with the CTC fittinbg up p[erfectly on thge cm9 and PM9 kand it is CTC product that is the cause. There are some nice reports about this over on the elsoie pea forum that will tell u more..
You won't find a nicer gun than that cm9 and u won't find a better forum than this one either. Let this forum know what kinbd of holstrer ur looking for , be it pocket, IWB, OWB and these guys can help you alot .
Remember one thing, ur not gonna shoot out a kahr either, so just shoot it like u stole it and u and the gun will mate up even better and the gun I can assure u in a few hundred more rounds will smooth out even more where u will think you got a different gun even. This is one gun that IMO gets better with rounds downrange, not the opposite.
Practice close, kahrs are what they are a close up (7 yards) gun that will save u live if needed. To me their trigger system as smooth as glass but looooong by most standards dictates that this is not a target gun, so accept it..

I just picked a CM9 a few weeks ago also. I found it to be 100% reliable, very pleasant to shoot, and very concealable in this hot sticky Texas climate.
When you get ready to buy mags, check out CTD.

I got the 8 round mags for mine from CTD and they work flawlessly. There not good for concealment, but they are good back-up / plinking mags. :D
EDIT:
It should be noted that some have had problems with the extended mags in the CM9, but there is a fix for it on this forum.

slowpoke, that seems what is allwe read anymore. would be fruitless to have IMO a cm9 special section on this forum for it would be very boring to read of all the super reports from new owners. I jus thave never seen such a successful gun as the cm9 has been OUT OF THE BOX, PRE PREPPED OR WHAT EVER. The little fokker just goes bang..

Yup, seems like the CM9 is going to give all the other mini 9s one hell of time.
You just take 'em out of the box an pre-lube them, and there perfect.
My CW40 is also an amazing gun.
Now I'm lookin' real hard at the CW45. :D

Welcome to the forum Freedom4Firearms. Glad to hear you had such a good experience with your CM9. I might have to look into one, since they jacked up the price on the pistol I was waiting to hit market.

Welcome to KahrTalk! You've got yourself a winner.
I don't get this "handful' stuff either, at least not with the nines.

Welcome to the Forum. You definitely need some lighter to carry in the summer here in our over 100 degree heat in TX..Not sure where you are but DFW made a record yesterday of 107. Course, you know that is NOT in the shade and the heat index was higher. We were at the gun store Thursday and were looking at some revolvers for me that is lighter than my Kahr CW45.

Thanks for the heads up on the Crimson Trace. I'll have to do some more research before I decide if I should risk buying one or not. As far as a holster goes, I just ordered a DeSantis Pro Stealth IWB. I have one for my Ruger LCP and I like the design because they have a spot for an extra magazine.
I only pocket carry about 15% of the time. However, I would like some recommendations on a good pocket holster (preferably one that will also hold an extra magazine) for those occasions that I do.
Thanks

Good call on the link to the magazine. I happen to live near their McKinney store. I'll have to touch base and see if they have any in stock.

Freedom4.... I use a DeSantis Nemesis holster in my front jeans pocket. Took a little while to get the holster properly broken-in, but I have been well pleased with it so far.

I like the Nemesis, but like the Super Fly even better (MK40)!
With an auto the extra flap seems to aid in dealing with printing in soft pants.

(Prefer the Nemesis for my 38 342 ti though)
Really can't go wrong with a DeSantis.

Thanks for the recommendations for a pocket holster. I’ll check those out.
Unfortunately, I got my DeSantis Pro Stealth for IWB in the mail yesterday and was really disappointed. The grip sits well below the belt line so I can’t get a firm grip before drawing. I certainly don’t want to be caught in a life or death situation and have to pull my gun out halfway and then readjust my grip. I would be just as likely to drop it or fling it with all of that adrenaline.
Does anyone have a recommendation on a good IWB holster that will allow me to get a full grip before drawing? I also need a recommendation on a magazine pouch too please. The reason that I ordered the DeSantis Pro Stealth was because it has a magazine carrier built in. I have that same style of holster for my Ruger LCP and it works well for that gun, but not for my CM9.
Thanks
