I mentioned in another post that one of my pistols from the Feb. burglary was recovered. It was the XD c 45, and was never my favorite gun, so I went a-trading today. My LGS had a SIG P239 40 w/NS's that I had my eye on. However, while it's a great gun, so are my M&P c 40 and CW40, and they're both about the same size and a lot lighter. If I get another 40 it will be a PM or CM.
Being a 45 kind of guy, I immediately went to the 45 showcase. I wanted something light and small, but all I saw was a P45, which really isn't my style. Tara said what about a Kimber - I said, I don't do Kimbers. She persisted and pulled out a perfect used SS Ultra Carry II, and said, I don't think this gun has ever been fired. I had to admit it was a nice looking pistol, the same size as my STI but prettier. About then Randy, the owner, came over and said, what if I take the XD and you take the Kimber for $275 difference out the door. Pretty good deal! After swearing both Tara and Randy to secrecy that I ever even looked at a Kimber, I walked out with a SS Kimber UC II.

looks very similar to my '97/'98 Stainless Compact (4")

I absolutely love minie, although I don't carry it much any more. The original night sights still have a bit of glow, although the half-life of tritium is considered to be 12-13 years. If I were to carry it again, I would get new night sights, and probably have the trigger "restored" to the 4-4.5 lb range. The SS frame makes the guns very, very controllable.
congrats

Nice Kimbers folks! I've owned two (still have one) and both proved to be reliable/accurate handguns.

I'm pretty sure most of us have been seduced by a gun we never intended buying. I've got a stainless steel 629 Mountain revolver I got for $350 bucks.
I was shopping for a Sig P220/45!
(plus it was make my day week on channel 44 with Dirty Harry/Magnum Force/The Enforcer/Sudden Impact ) I just couldn't take it.
Love that gun. Still have it. Still one of my favorites.

Very nice!
Congrats on getting the gun back and then trading for a gun you really wanted! Very nice 1911 too. I wish mine would get here someday.

Sounds like Tara is a clever lady. If you add some wood grips and a Wilson Bulletproof Slide Stop, it might look something like this . . . my wife's favorite because it is so easy to rack and she shoots it so well.

Mr. Surveyor has seen this before . . . apologies for bragging.

Thanks for the kind words. I haven't stripped it yet, but tomorrow I'll take care of that and prep it for the range. I checked with Kimber today and found out the build date was 10/10, so it's less than a year old. It's a nice looking piece, but the real test will come next week when I shoot it.

I've always felt like there was something magic in the feel of my stainless Kimber over all other 1911's I've had the opportunity to handle. The weight and balance just seem right all the way around, and it points so natural. I'm betting you will find an instant kinship with your's.
edit to add: There's obviously something to the magical attraction to the compact stainless Kimbers.... Tucson and I have been counter posting the same pics of ours at every opportunity for 4-5 years:D

Guilty as charged, your honor.
Now, may I be excused to ride to the range? Objects in the picture are closer than they appear. :D
