That is right Folks....If you have and love your PM9 and don't leave home with out it, one day you might say, I love this gun but I hate these sights! Now in all fairness, I purchased my PM9 with regular white dot sights and the gun shoots great with them, but I can never leave well enough alone, soooooooo, I decided that I wanted a set of BIG DOTS for this little short range keep you alive gun.
I ordered them and before I went on a three week assignment (just returned), I went over to a friends shop. He is a Glock (that is right Glock) certified armor and said that I could use his bench and tools to change the sights,.
I have changed sights on many 1911's and Glocks with out any problems.
MURPHY'S LAW: and yes it happened, First it is almost impossible to get the factory sights off of a PM9, and it took two of us to do this. It was than almost impossible to get the BIG DOTS front and rear to go on.
Yes, I am aware of the NEW vs OLD sights and Yes, we had the right set>
I called XS SIGHTS while doing the job and even they said that the PM9 was the hardest gun to change sights on.
I have the Diamond Black finish, and did not want to scratch it, so we used a little of non-glue painters tape to cover the exposed areas of the slide.
The job took about 1 hour (unreal) to remove the old sights (XS said that they usually cut them in half and remove them the quick way, but we got them out in whole.
The rear sight went on with a little lube and a gentle few tap's with a 10 lb sledge (not really but it sounds good and it is what I wanted to do). The front sight needed some fitting and a small file took care of it,
The sight are on, it looks great and shoots great. PICTURES WILL FOLLOW LATER THSI AFTERNOON, when I can get my cameras back out.
And what assignments you ask, well, lets see, being part of the NASA photo pool, we had the last launch of the program of Atlantis, followed by the M-Benz Swimwear show and than the final landing of Shuttle Atlantis.
And now back to shooting...............
More to come

Weird. The PM9 was the first gun I ever changed the sights on and I thought it went pretty smoothly. I cut two thin pieces of wood and taped them to the vice jaws, locked the slide in. I cut a stout wood dowel and used a standard claw hammer to drive them out. A slight amount of filing on the Big Dots to where I could get them half way on, then used the dowel and hammer to tap them back to the position where I previously marked the stock sights w/ a pencil. I am fairly handy, but nowhere near a craftsman nor gunsmith. Thought it was a fairly straightforward job. Maybe I'm just lucky.
Anywho - you'll love the Big Dots. I've got them on both my PM9 and P380. The only bad thing about the Big Dots is that sometimes you have to lower your sights to see the bullet impact... but really, is that a bad thing? LOL :)

Question
Was it the Old or New Style..
I understand that the Old style was easy to change and that the new style is and was much harder.
You can tell the difference by a small dimple on the under side of the slide near the rear.
New style has the dot old does not.
AS I said, I had a tec from XS Sights on the phone while I was doing the change and even he said that the new ones are hard to do.

I got a news letter from Front Sight Firearms Institute, and Dr. Piazza said that if you have dots on your sights to BLACK THEM OUT. His reason is they take your eye away from the top edge of the front sight where they should be focused. You tend to want to put the dot on the target, not the top edge of the front sight. I did NOT follow his advice, I can't see how focusing on the dot is going to affect your aim at gunfight distances. I also think they help in low light situations.
I have heard that many competitive shooter use sight black and only use black sights. I like the white dots and variations there of for my SD pistols. Still not crazy about this dot the i on the Kahrs, but am stuck with them for the time being.

I shoot Steel Competition and use Ameriglow BIG ORANGE DOT's on my front sights and BLACK OUT REAR. and you can not beat them, for speed and accuracy.
I also believe that in a gun fight (which most people have never been in or have even drawn their gun out of the holster) that the key would be to point and shoot. If you are shooting at a large mass (the body) and not a small target, muscle reflex reaction is more important than the color of your sights.
And in the real world, most problems happen in the Dark or very dim lit areas and any advantage you can get to help put the gun on your target is a great help.
We have a winter indoor league and shoot with lights OFF, Lights Flashing ON & OFF and use a hand held light going through a dark shoot house. This is not as easy as it sounds and since most gun fights happen (if at all) in less than 20 feet, that big dot really helps.

Well, since I happen to have it on me, let's see...
I do have the dot. Mine's the new style of the blunt nosed PM9s, not the tapered style.
Since it's the first time I had done one, I probably just over estimated it, and the net result being that it was pretty much what I expected. Good to know that it'll probably go easier if I decide to change sights on a different pistol someday. :yo:

the dimple on the bottom of the slide has NOTHING to do with how hard those kahr sights come off. The dimple just depicts new style slide and most all mfg-ers sights will fit the new style dovetail. It is the rear dovetails that brings about the dimple on the slide, nothing more.
KAHR sights 'normally
" are a BIT-H to move or get off withut a good sight pusher, be they dimple or no dimple slide.

This is true, except that XS sights DOES MAKE 2 DIFFERENT SETS.
They make one set for the older slide and the other for the newer slide.
If you look at the KAHR or XS web sights, you will see that they even have a diagram showing where to look for the dimple.
Go Figure.
On a good note, I shot 50 rds with the BIG DOTS at 20 feet and that DOT IS BIG.
ALL SHOTS WERE COVERING THE 'X' very nice for close up work.

FWIW both of my guns with 3-dot sights shoot low unless I put the dot on the target. S&W 4513 w/novak lo-mounts & pm9 w/trijicon ns. Not the way I learned to shoot but works for me for SD.
