First time at a shoot house. I realize that guys work as teams to clear a house. We did it solo. WOW. This was an eye opener for me. I knew guys that do this stuff(military, SWAT ect) have a difficult job but I really was made to appreciate how hard it really is and my targets were stationary and not shooting back. Crazy stuff. Just constantly slicing the pie every foot you move in any direction was mind blowing.
Hats off to you guys that do this for a living. I would be in a fetal position in the corner of the room with my thumb in my mouth crying for my mommy.

just lost a police office rin Terre Haute, Ind due to a shoot house type thing. He and 5 others including a federal marshall was serving a warrant on a fella for parole violation. This cop was also a K9 (swat) cop with the Terree Haute Police dept. When they entered the home, they did not know where this guy was and when the cop opened up a closet door the guy was there with a semi 9 and shot the cop in the head twice and the K9 dog in the head also. (It lived, ) the cop died instantly. the fella turned the gun on himself and was dead also. I have no doubt what your saying with an eye opeing experience. If the inside person determines he is going to die, u are going to loose some officers if u try what these guys did in trying to serve this warrant. He has the elimite of surprise, as he has already made up his mind he is willing and is gonna die.
I personally think from taling to other officers around the area that some procedures were not followed for this to have happened. The fella involved was being served a federal warrant for parole violation. not a mass murderor, so why the big deal of 6 officers busting in and taking such a life changing chance. Course hindsight is always 20-20 and maybe they have done this hundreds of times but I still say if ur willing to die, then police officers will be lost. A real shame this guy was only 34 years of age..
Hell just look at this pri-k that killed those 93 people on Norway, He hated Mus;lims but killed 93 norwegians to prove his point. That makes no sense, but some people make no sense either. and now I read the most he cana get over there is 21 yearsw as they do not have the death penalty or life penalty. Try that on for size..

sad story and an example of how dangerous this is.

I've had the opportunity to see several different agencies work in several types of shoot house. I am always humbled by the skill and cajones it takes to do this work. The most modern of these training facilities allow the bad guys shoot back! Now that really makes it interesting.
Many years ago a friend of mine was shot and wounded during a drill. It is very dangerous work with live ammo.

Once you have cleared you own house in the dark by yourself it is something you do not want to do again. In a real life situation clearing anything alone is a good way to get shot. As jocko posted an experienced, trained, and assisted PO was lost. What chance does a solo citizen expect?

I lived next to my business which was also a sporting goods store, and we sold BEAR archery equipent back then. One night I notice red lights outside my window and upon looking more I could see it was a couple of our local police cars in front of my business. So I went outside to see what was going on and they said there is someone inside your building. I said my alarm did not go off but are u sure, they said yes we can see him. So I followed along with them to see what was up and sure enough there was some one inside my buisiness. It was a full size stand up cardboard colored figure of Fred bear standing there, in camo, and they thought it was a burglar!!!!!! These cops were excited, armed with shotguns and calling for backup from the sheriff's dept. So please tell me do u think these guys were gonna see their night sights on their weapons????
I am so glad I was home to cut this event short for all...

I am so glad I was home to cut this event short for all...This is not my original thought, but it makes sense: Night sights are good for about 30 to 60 minutes in the evening. At some point, you cannot see or clerarly ID a target, therefore, you should not shoot. Earlier, its bright enough to not need NIGHT sights. I bought them anyway. I like to stack the deck or in my work lingo, minimize the risk.

I like night sights, WHY?? Hell I don't really know for sure. Felt it was something that I had to have on my kahr. I would venture to guess that 95% of us don't train much for night usage either, just kinda hard to do around my area without drawing enforcement people tok now what the hell the shooting is at night etc. We have no indoor ranges for over 100 miles. I would be a poor excuse for a good night sight sales person, other than saying I have xs bog dots on my kahrs and love them but I am talking about daytime shooting, so it is kinda of a mute point to.

My shooting is all indoors as there are several ranges for me to choose from. There are outdoor ranges but only two I know of.
Here's my favorite. They run a very safe place.

do they allow night type (darkness) shoots at these indoor ranges, ??
Yes, but only during league shooting and possibly during their training courses. Once certified, they allow fast draw from holster shooting. CQT is the only range that this is allowed, yet it is the safest one in the area.
