My dad has had this gun since I was a kid. He carried one just like it through three tours of Vietnam in the 101st and bought this one years later. While it may not be a museum quality piece I have seen him make some amazing shots with it over the last few decades. When I was a teenager I remember driving with him in his truck out on our property. There was a coyote running across the field. He stopped, grabbed the carbine and shot the coyote on the run before I even got out of the truck. I'm very excited and honored that he gave it to me yesterday for my birthday.

That's a fine birthday present. I'm very happy for you. Coming from your dad just makes it even more special. Something to hang onto for sure.

And Happy Birthday.

Happy Belated Birthday! My son's birthday was yesterday too! I didn't have a fancy rifle to give him so I got him a Cabellas card. I figure when I die he is going to get eveything anyhow so I keep teasing him about the little "armory" I have collected. :-)

Last year I gave my son a mint Browning HP for his birthday. His birthday was last month, but since he's still talking about the Browning, I got by with a few boxes of 9mm.

How cool is that Frank. The guns I have from my father are very precious to me. Particularly now that he's gone. I got his Browning Auto 5 Goose gun with 30 inch barrel with full choke. It's fun to take pheasant hunting and let everyone esle have their shot, then knock em down when they are way out of most folks range. That was using 3" magnum #4 shot shells, which I can't hardly find in lead anymore. Fun to watch the jaws drop. I also have a mossberg .22 that needs work, won't feed right from the tube if the plunger is pushed all the way in. It works ok if you don't push the plunger all the way. Some spring or something must need replaced.

I inherited a similar model from my Great Uncle a few years back. Unlike your dad, I don't remember ever seeing my uncle fire the M1 although it hung from his bed post with a 20 rd mag as far back as I can remember. Definitely a blast to plink with. I managed to get an original leather grip bayonet for mine. That really sets it off nicely and improves the balance. Happy birthday and enjoy the gift for life.

Everybody should own a good carbine and thats a nice one indeed but the good memories is what makes that gun all the more valuable.
Congrats.

Not only is that a carbine anyone would be proud to own, coming from your dad makes it priceless.
