View Full Version : PM9 vs MCM9 for $100 more

I see the PM9 listed for $559 and the CM9 for $430 but after purchasing a second magazine for the CM it only makes about $100 difference. Would the PM9 be worth the difference considering the extra money wouldn't completely bankrupt the household? Or would that just be $100 down the drain unnecessarily.

Only you can make that decision. If you want the polygonal barrel or the dove tail front sight, go for it. Otherwise there's not really a compelling reason other than aesthetics. The PM9 slide does look better than the CM9 slide and is available in black if that's what you want.

really down the drain. The PM9 offers dovetailed sights, which gives u a wider choice of night sights if u so desire them. Polygonal rifled barrel which is supposed to be a more premium barrel (that is very debateable IMO). Forged slide lock lever (which again is very debeatable to if it is better in any way than the MIM one n the cm9). extra magazine which is a $40 value but for me that 7 round extended magazine is a joke, not only ugly but in many PM9 some have issues (so for me that is no asset at all). Alittle more machinging on the outside of the pM9 slide (cosmetic only, but sitll nice), all internal os both are the same. they both will shoot the same. The option of ordering it in the black DLC finsih is very nice (if that is what you think u want).
Now if none of these perks bend ur crank, defiitely go for the cm9 , go out and buy a flush fit 6 round magaziine and just shot it like u stole it. Also remember that when u go adding night sights and the dlc finish your juj mping up alot from the $100 difference to. Think of it this way.
Both guns sittng in front of you now in same finish only one right now comes witht he butt ugly 7 round magazine. Throw that away and now both guns are equal and your over $120 less now, BUY THE CM9. u don't need that spare magazine right at this minute either.. Look for a bargain price .

You will be able to find Mag's for the CM9/PM9 between $25-28 at local ranges, gun shops and gun shows (orig. Kara only)
I think that Cheeper than DIrt has them for $28.00 and also check out CDNN (online) for weekend specials and shipping).
I have a PM9 in DLC Black and love it, but it sits in a Rosen Clipper holster IWB all day riding with me where ever I go, So what I want is a gun that If I have to draw it, it will work each and every time.
Funny, I have mine about 1 month now, and every trip to my local range, I am always asked is it still working?
I have now about 700 rd's through it and not A SINGLE PROBLEM, NOT ONE!
I did follow the suggested directions of this Forum (GREAT IDEAS!) and when I got it, I sat in the break room at my range, did a complete field strip (the gun that is:D) gave it a good cleaning and lots of OIL (10 W 40 , I think:w00t:) and went inside and shot 200 rd's. I have 2 -7 rd mag's work great at the range but they are ugly! working on a new plastic footing.
I also have 2 6rd mag's that I change the foot on to a plastic foot from KAHR and the fit is better and loos great.
Save your $100 or so and invest in a goof holster (if you plan to carry 24/7 and ammo) but most of all enjoy, they a lot of fun to shoot!
Oh, and Welcome to the GROUP & Forum:84:

imo, i sold/traded my pm9 with trijicon night sights with all the intentions in the world of getting a cm9 instead. I figured if i could have the same gun 100 less then i would do it. So far with everything into my cm9 I am 456 bucks into it and the break down goes as follows....
cm9 from buds 389 shipped
transfer fee was 30
front night trijicon night sight from kahr 37 shipped
even in you pay buds 419-430 plus transfer and throw a trijicon sight and a extra mag you should be right around 500 or so with a front night sight you can install with ease. Without the night sight get a extra mag and you will be well under 500.

To me the snob appeal alone of the PM9 over the CM9 is worth the price differential. :001_tt2:
Yes, I bought my PM9 shortly before the CM9 became readily available. I'm not certain as to which I would buy today. If you do 9mm hard cast reloads I believe you'd be better off with the CM9 with its standard barrel rifling.

My vote is for the PM9, I always go with the pretty one, and I use the 7 round mag at the range, and carry with the 6 round. Plus if you like you can get with nite sites, and in all black if you want. See you have options. :)

I beg to differ about which is the pretty one.

I wanted mine to be "all dressed in black" so I sprang the extra $ for the PM9. As you said, the extra won't break the bank, so you should buy what you really want.

It certainly wouldn't be to me, but I'm frugal. [Friends say cheap] Several years ago I got a CW9 instead of the PM9, even though it didn't meet my needs as well, because it was $200 cheaper. Come on Kahr, release the CM40 and 45!

John, you did the right thing. It's like you said... having to buy at least one more magazine cuts the "savings" and you can get the other options you want plus a little better finished gun and the "target-quality" barrel, which doesn't really make much difference at self-defense ranges.
I keep thinking about more Kahrs... even a K40, but I'm just hoping they come out with a K45. I really don't want another caliber to keep up with.
If the CM's had been available when I was getting my Kahrs, I might have done differently, but I'm happy with what I have... after they've all been cared for by Kahr CS, as needed.
Good luck and good shooting. If you frequent The Gun Gallery Range on Beach Blvd, I get in there once in a while. I wear a Kahr cap and carry a silver "tool" case.

When I purchased my PM9 back in January the CM's were not available.
I knew they were coming but did not know when.
I went to a gun show with the intentions of buying a CW9,PF9,or PM9.
The CW and PF had for me at least a better grip but I liked the size and lower weight of the PM9.
Although at $275.00 for the Kel-Tek PF9 I was really tempted.
However I chose the PM9 with night sights as they truely help my aging eyes get on target at the dingy indoor range I frequent to stay out of the blast furnace Texas summer time outdoors.
I paid $655.00 for my PM9 with the N/S and even if the CM would have been available I still would have gone with the PM9 simply because of the better (for me) night sights.
And fwiw my seven round magazine is one of those troublesome genuine jammers.
Stick to the six...It works each and every time.

I have the PM9 in black with Night sights. It's a very fine pistol. The CM9 was not available or even talked about at the time,at least that I'm aware of.Today if I had to do it all over agian I'd probably get the CM9 in black. $100 can buy alot of ammo. But that does not mean that I do not think the PM9 isn't worth the extra money. JMHO.

I just inventoried my .45 FMJ supply... at least 2,200... about 11 trips to the range... over $750 in ammo for one caliber!!
I hate that I had to give up reloading due to the limited places to shoot here and having to leave the cases on the floor. I understand that you can do limited picking up since then, but I had already sold my substantial reloading gear.
Even if you reload, it's not inconsequential... the ammo costs! I put around 2,200 rounds that I could document through my PM45 last year with test and shooting in about 6 months time and 4 trips to Kahr... up to the point I got "Franken-Boomer" back... and that doesn't take into consideration what Kahr fired in testing it when they had it. The magazine destroying episode must have really cost them some ammo in testing before they replaced the frame and put a stop to that!
If you're going to shoot a lot, you might as well get a real "shooter"... one that's FUN to shoot and that will last and shoot like Jocko's PM9... over 32K and counting!:third:

I went for the PM9 in black with night sights. I personally like my guns black (I do have a hard chrome Les Baer .45, but even that is not shiny.) Everybody likes different things and if they made the CM9 in black with night sights I would see no reason to pay any extra for the PM9 barrel and parts.

u bought a dandy PM9 though, probably won't be seeing the cm9 with these factory options for like u stated, it would kill PM9 sales. As the cm9 gets more and more popular along with the cw series, Iwould think we willsee an xs big dot front sight soon..

Thanks for all the great replys fellows. Since the little options don't mean much for me, just want a small accurate well built 9mm for my concealed carry, sounds like the CM9 should be the one for me. Appreciate the information concerning the 7 round magazine so will just have the shop send an extra 6 round with the gun when I figure where to order it from. Have a local gunsmith who will receive it for me for $10.

I don't reload, but I did an inventory a few days ago. I came up with:
380 230+ rounds Not a problem because I only have one and I don't shoot it much
9mm 1100+ rounds Only one 9mm pistol so I'm okay for a while.
40 cal 1300+ rounds 3 pistols that I shoot often - have to watch that
45 cal 1700+ rounds 8 pistols that I shoot a lot. Fired 170 rounds last week so I bought 200 rounds at WM today.
Hmmmm, over 4000 rounds. The + is for rounds in the mags of the guns and would be 130 - 150 for the 45's.

I look around for the best deals and .45 is what I'm most concerned with. I just got 500 rounds of Blazer 230-gr FMJ for $159.90 plus $5 shipping and no tax from Cabela's. WalMart has raised their prices and the cheapest there is now the Federal Champion for $18.99 and the WW100 for $35.95, up $2 and $3 respectively.
I don't mind the aluminum cases 'cause they stay on the floor at the range. The only thing cheaper at the time was MFS at $15.88 vs. the Blazer at $15.99, so I went with the better rated American. I'm staying away from the steel-cased stuff with funky coatings... Wolf and Tula, etc.
I really like the .45 and on my last outing I blew off about 250 rounds... 200 FMJ.
I just love the S.E. grin and the pistols bucking and booming!
Dang! I still need to add the Short Barrel Gold Dots through my 5" S&W to that flash testing I did of the Gold Dots & GD SB's. I finally found those stills yesterday and sorted those out. I just keep getting side-tracked! It's not like I don't have a lot to do around here with repairs and renovations AND hurricanes a coming! There's always something!

Didn't know The CM9 didn't come in all black? In which case the PM9 is certainly worth the extra $100. That black finish it tough. I'm not big on my CC pistols having any flash to them. If we're talking Cars and Motorcycles and the wifes jewerly shiney is fine, on pistols not so much. :)

For as much fun as shooting your gun is; probably is as much fun fondling your gun. I for one can't get my hands off my PM9 .
Disregard all other advice and reasons, if money is not the problem just buy the one that floats your boat.
