Clerk at a Days Inn protects herself. The sheriff had some on target quotes I thought were classic.

“She did the correct thing — she protected herself.”
“The lesson for robbers is, you never know when you are going to encounter someone who is armed and will protect themselves,” Lott said.
Lott declined to give some details, such as the kind of gun the woman had and where she had it concealed.
“The bottom line — he is the one who caused him to get killed,” Lott said.

I don't care what caliber she had, she should have put three or so into C.O.M. because he was a BIG guy.

All's well that ends well! D.R.T.

Great Sheriff, too... and her employer deserves kudos, too. Most would fire her, certainly not give permission to CCW on the job!

Great post and outcome.

One shot, backs up the theory that six should be plenty. Hope she is doing ok, something like that can mess you up if you let it.

Me too! Hope she gets her mind wrapped around the fact that she did a good thing. Wayne01 is right. Stuff like this can change your life.

Will there b a civil action against her? You know he was trying to get his life on track and probabaly a devoted father to his children. I guess what I am trying to say is that the mental disturbance for her might be the actions of the legal system afterward more than her actions at the time of the shooting. How about the money needed to defend herself? Seems the sheriff's statements might help circumvent any civil matters though.

There was an incident several miles from my place where a bad guy from the city was playing burgler in a mans back yard out in the county. The bad guy then went to his car and told the home owner he was going to get a gun and kill him. The bad guy went to the car and started coming back when the home owner closed the case with a 12 gauge. The bad guy didn't survive.

Classic quote from the DA of my county after the SD shooting: "People who are thinking about commiting a crime in this county need to realize that folks around here own guns and know how to use them."

There was a rash of these crimes from city dwellers that were coming into the county to make a quick buck. Those instances have declined in the last year or so now.
